RE: Edge540 26cc
I checked the 16x8 at the field and was getting 83000 to 84500. Could have been more. I used my rpm checker that is in my field box and it is not to good. I am still a little rich. I need more run time so I can smooth out the mid and get the rpm from top end.

I've seen some posts about running rich with the SPE engines during break-in, and just so you know, that's not a good idea. Lean them for best performance, back off just a little bit, and fly 'em. If you run them too rick during break-in with a gasoline engine, you'll potentially do some damage to the rings, from what I understand. I have two SPE engines, ran them both as described, and they broke in very nicely. Also, you'll do yourself no justice by keeping the low-end settings rich either.

RE: Edge540 26cc
P-Diddy,
I read a lot of the BCMA forum and saw that you got a 40 and a 26. Have you got them both setup now so that they flip start fairly easily? How many flips? How many gallons did it take to get that way for each? If you were me, would you go ahead and order an engine from Adam (when he gets the new engine lines out) or take a chance with these ones from Peak? I think the answer is obvious because I don't think Peak will provide the service that Adam at BCMA will. I think he was swamped over the holidays, have things calmed down yet?
Thanks,
Gary
p.s. I think lots of people would benefit from reading the BCMA forum

RE: Edge540 26cc
freebird1 or anyone with spe 26:
Could you report more rpm readinds:
freebird1 reports :
8300 rpm with 16x8 (83000 as he wrote is obviusly wrong)
Jose ribeiro reports:
"I know that based in my hobby experience, i think if you buy the BCMA spe 26cc you will have good performance in a 120 size plane, but the stock SPE 26cc is very weak, it turns 17x6 wood prop at 7300 rpm top"
So seems opposite reports since 17x6 and 16x8 should provide similar readings ???

RE: Edge540 26cc
Maiden Flight for my Edge today [8D] , followed by a second flight.
CG is 108-110 mm and she flies like a dream.
OS160FX is good sized for this EDGE.
I'm very happy with this EDGE and I think she's gonna be my every day plane.
I've lost the canopy on the second flight, so I have to find a way to let it stay on the fuse. Any idea ?

RE: Edge540 26cc
I have been flying my Edge with no canopy problems. I took 4-40 bolts and blind nuts to hold it in place rather than the screws. I also used a lock washer. simple and does not take to much time to do. If you think you may wish to try it I can post a photo. Hope this helped!

I have bought the EDGE 540 and an ASP180. Anyone flown the plane with this engine? I am curious about a good prop and servo selection. I was planning to put some Hitech 475HS servos all over with a 6volt package. Good or bad idea?

RE: Edge540 26cc
Installed TOWERPRO servos on this EDGE. No problem with these on this plane and other. Battery is 6V.
For the ASP 180, I think it's a good choice.

I have a box full of Tower Pro 5010. If you have had no problem, maybe I will put them in instead... I have also some Tower Pro MG995, but I dont trust them.... I have done some tests, and they seem to stop responding to quick repeated inputs..... Any other with this experience?

Hitec warns against using Karbonite-geared servos in high-vibration environments or on aircraft of this weight with large control surfaces -- and the 475s are the most fragile of all the Karbonite-geared servos.
You'd be much better off going for some metal-geared servos like the 625 or similar (if you're a Hitec fan).
I'm currently reviewing some relatively low-cost metal-geared servos ($15) that seem to look good so far and (once the site is complete) will appear at RCModelReviews.com (yeah, I'm running way behind on this :-)

These are bad servos. Poorly designed, poorly made and very poor in the performance and reliability area.
I'm preparing a full review now but I have to say that I would *not* put one of these in any model I was fond of or wanted to keep.
As for the 5010s, they're better, but have very poor resolution (the samples I tested moved in just 26 steps from limit to limit which is attrocious).
The funny thing is that TowerPro makes the best 8g servos on the market but the rest of their offerings seem to be utter rubbish.

RE: Edge540 26cc
I was tamking about TowerProt 995 and they are not bad, sorry.
A lot of us use them and we had no problem until now.
They are very cheap and powerfull. The only weakness is the return to neutral position. The arm goes back too far from neutral position before stopping.
The other thing that desserves this servo is the Bzzzz noise of it when used with PPM receivers. With PCM, they are as silent as any other.

RE: Edge540 26cc
Bill, consider yourself very lucky then.
Out of the 20 I purchased for evaluation, almost half a dozen died within a few months of relatively light use.
On examination you'll also find that the wires to the pots and motors are unsupported and will eventually break if subjected to the kind of vibration generated by any engine over .40 or so in size.
The pots are also very poor quality, meaning that the carbon tracks wear quickly and this results in the servos suffering from even worse centering and hunting around neutral.
Ultimately, it's your money and your models though -- if you're happy to use them then good luck to you but personally, I hate risking hundreds of dollars worth of airframe, engine and RC gear to an $8 servo!

XJet!
Thank you for good info! It makes sense with those the karbonite gears!! I'll consider e.g. the 625.
BTW
I'm not a fan of anything. I'll just love good products and low prices!! Contious seach for the optimum quality to the lowest price!!
The tower Pro are cheap, maybe too cheap......

Lot of guy here still use these Towerpro servo without problem.
Of course, they are not very good, but they are not piece of sh..T, sorry.
I will replace these TowerPro servo later for Hitec or other ones.
Notice that some guys also say that Hitec Servos are piece of sh..t too.
