RE: Edge540 26cc
I haven't started building yet. But on most arfs I add some support. I plan on beefing up the firewall like I do on most models. As for the covering you might want to try putting monokote trim solvent over the seems. My father and I do this on most models. It works real well especially on ultracote were seems coming up are pretty common. It works best if you do it before it ever gets fuel on it, but it should help. I know nothing about the engine and it will be my first gas engine. I was going to put a ys 1.40 in it, but wanted to try the combo since my shop is planning on carrying these models. I'm interested to know if it has enough to pull out of the hover down low.

Feel free to tell us all how the first flight went from takeoff to landing and what adjustments were made. Did you have any problems and how were the conditions. Were you flying Gas or glow power. If you can do a little 3D did it hover well and were you able to pull out with authority. Any manuvers that were better then others??

RE: Edge540 26cc
Hey ToFast, I bought the 26cc engine and Edge combo. Hitec 645 servos on rudder and elevator, Hitec 635 in ailerons. Plane is light and well built, covering looks nice but I think it chinacote, Engine is hard to start, but has run good when warmed up. Madein plane yesterday on a very cloudy breeze day here. No surprizes on take off, flew some basic I.M.A.C. stuff tracks straight on low rates but may not be very good compition because its hard to stall. Engine was really rich rough midrange, I think its should pull out of hovers well, when I get it adjusted. Plane was nose heavy for madein flight . Very little wing rocking in harriers, K,E, plane really drops could be because of nose heavy condition. Lands like a trainer. I think its a good plane and engine for entry level gas, later I hate typeing.
Steve
I lost a funtana 90 on first flight because of hitec 635 servos, those carbonite gears cant handle those surfaces.

RE: Edge540 26cc
i cant believe no ones reporting on this thread.anyway i maidend the edge today..WOW...i have flown a funtana 90 and 40,harrier 46,funstar,twist 40 and 60,and other 3d models like these but this edge is awesome.it knife edges inverted flat spin and hovers almost hands off.it seems to move through the air a bit faster than what I'm use to but not a problem, and lands so much easier than my f 90 does or did since i removed all the gear out of it and into this one.i think im at 10 pounds and near the forward recommended cg.I'm going to flt it over the weekend and i will report back with an exact weight and cg and pictures of the plane inside and out so you can see where i mounted my equipment.

RE: Edge540 26cc
I think what lots of folks want to know is how well they fly with the SPE26cc engine that's offered in a bundle.
Just based on the videos from the Peak Model website, that engine seems to be working awfully hard in a hover (no vertical pull-outs are shown, only a transition to forward flight or a harrier -- which suggests they're really a bit weak for 3D) and they sound absolutely awful in the mid-range.
If this combo is a good pairing I'd buy one -- but I'm not about to gamble that much $ without some feedback from someone who's actually flown it.

RE: Edge540 26cc
This may sound crazy, but why could you not go to a 40cc. the 26 is 38 OZ and the 40cc is 50 OZ. seems to me wiht a carbon prop and a 40cc should be plenty of power and only 11 OZ sure would not make it to heavy. would it?

To put things in proper perspective, they aren't weak. Instead they are too small. A 40cc gas/petrol engine would come close to producing the power of a 1.6 glow engine.
No one should ever expect a gas/petrol fueled engine to keep up in power with the same displacement glow engine. It doesn't work that way in our universe, and it never will.
No amount of advertising/marketing hype will change this fact in the least.

RE: Edge540 26cc
My MVVS 26cc gasser on pipe swing the Menz S 18-6 at 8600 rpm, that is 250 rpm more than my new ASP 180 fs. How does that number (8600 rpm) on that prop compare to a twostroke glow engine? Is it behind, say an OS 160 or does the pipe make it as strong as the glow engine of the same size without pipe???

A two stroke engine will show huge gains on a pipe thats properly tuned an a gas engine will start approaching the performance of glow engine in a similiar size. Of course you can pipe a glow engine too.
I watched the vids from the peak site an was impressed with the power the 26cc engine had. Its just a lot of plane for that small of an engine.

I don't think that it would need a 40 cc, but would be a monster with it. The 3W 28i will spin a 19/8 @ 7900 yeilding app. 18 lbs. thrust. Might be better suited @ 44 oz. with ignition if this model is coming in around 10 lbs. Although the ZDZ 40 is light and strong. Joe
