Hi,
after a couple of flights with my trainer aircraft, I'd like to learn the aerobatics and 3d flight. First, I need the right airplane and have found alot of different modells on the market. It should be a .40 plane and will be motorized with a saito FA-72 glowengine. Here are the preferrd planes for me:
what did you think about it ?
these three are from http://www.eurolight.aero/?S=DE
1. Futana S40 V3
2. Freestyle Rush
3. Extra 300 S
this one from Breackmann
4. Groove Freestyle ARF - http://www.braeckman.de/arffunflyerGroov.htm
and this one from pichler
5. Seduction Freestyle von Pichler http://www.pichler.de/okmodel/frameseite.html
all planes have a wingspan between 1,2 - 1,4 m and a weight from 2- 2,7 kg.
I need help do decide for one of those or maybe a better one that yours prefer, but it should be available in german internet shops in due to shipping cost.
Thanks in advance

Hi whaturi,
i already have the saito FA-72 and it should be ok for this size of aircraft. The main question is not the engine but rather the aircraft itself. I don't know which one of those is the right for me. This is what I've been asking for.

All of those planes would probably be close to the same.
However if you only have a limited number of flights on a trainer, these might be a bit difficult for you honestly. They have a pretty sharp leading edge and a thin airfoil so they are going to be a lot less stable than your trainer. Planes like you are suggesting require faster landings and although really stable looking in the hands of a good pilot are a little tricky to fly when they are going slow. Landings are the most dangerous and if you get them just a little too slow in a turn or on landing, they will tipstall and literally fall right out of the sky.
I do not have any specific suggestions but only suggest that you look for something with a thicker wing and a more rounded leading edge, at least out towards the wing tips. I am not sure what is carried in Germany but any thick winged profile plane or 3D/Fun fly would be as good for your needs and at your level would offer a much better plane to learn with. Maybe a Flip 3D, OMP Profile, Hype 3D, Mojo or their German equivalents would be your best bet. I started on a U CAN DO, and loved it. But that might not be your style?

if you don't mind flying a profile, that is fare better for 3d and easier to learn on and a lot easier to repair and less money to buy not to mention gobbs more fun to fly. like Mike said you need a thick wing cord to make slow flying easier. i like the mojo best of all the profiles. omp makes some very good profiles also. here are some links to check out.
ENJOY!

Hi Folks,
now, i come to a desicion and ordered the Weston Mini Hype 3D. Mike, you confident me that, for example a Hype 3D is better for me than the really faster F3A aeroplanes. I don't need such a fast plane but rather a slow landing and 3D capable plane. The hype should give me both of this abilitys and with the saito FA-72, ist should kicks ass.
thanks and best regards

Shred,
I think that is a better choice than the other planes you mentioned.. I will say it is still quite different than a trainer in the way it handles. I would recommend that you have an experienced pilot to make the 1st flight for you and make sure it is setup ok. Even a short time on a buddy box would be wise just to be sure that you can handle it. At least, let that experienced pilot take it off and then you fly it around and get comfortable. Once you get a feel for it you will be good to go.. Just dont get in a rush and end up crashing. That happens too often.
A few things to remember with these types of planes in comparison to a trainer.
*Gradual increase in speed as you roll out for take off. Dont throw the throttle forward too quickly or it will be hard to handle. Once it is rolling under control, run the throttle up and it will fly right out.
*Dont fly with too much throttle. This plane is meant to fly at a slower cruising speed. Just fly at a moderate speed. It is not made to go fast.
* At first fly it gently. Make slow turns and keep it up a little high until you are sure you have control.
* Take your time on the 3D stuff. Learn to do simple loops and rolls, inverted flight first.
* If you want to 3D, keep it up high. If you are flying down low if it stalls a little you can crash really quickly. Keep it 10-15meters high at least if not higher.

Hello Mike,
thanks for your useful tips about the first flight. Now, I ordered not the Hype 3D, rather the Hanger 9 Twist 40. Hope I will get assistance if I will run in trouble during the build or the setup of the plane. What did you think about the engine Saito FA-45 or the FA-72. Which one should I mount on the Twist 40 ? The FA-72 seems to strong, the 45 to weak ? how about the servos ? I have planned to use 2x HS-81 MG for the ailerons, but have no clue about the other servos for elevator, throttle and rudder.
Thanks in advance

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_1674813/tm.htm This is a link ot a HUGE thread on the Twist. I have flown the Twist but did not care for it. It just did not fly "3D" well. However, it does fly well and its a good stable thick winged plane that will get you started![8D] From everythign i have read over time, the Saito .72 seems to be a popular choice for it.
