Default Aero-Works Edge Which engine

I have my Aero-Works Edge (.40 size / 60" wingspan) finshed except for the engine. It calls for 46 to 100.

Does anyone have experience with this plane and what engine are you using.

I am thinking OS 91. Would that be too much?

Mike

The 91 would be fine. I have the Saito 100 in mine.

Supertiger 91, any 91 4C are useable options. Mine had the Saito 125 on it before I converted it and the plane and motor mount handled it fine. Power was pretty good, but I am at 6800 feet. I think the 100, either Saito or Evolution would be perfect.

Thanks guys.

I'll go with the OS 91 as I have a credit with tower I can use.

I put the Tower 75 in mine. Works great.

What is your overall opinion of the plane?

The quality looks great. I wonder how it flies?

Thanks,
Mike

I love the plane. I bring it to the field almost every time. Very lightweight and extremely forgiving on slow approaches. I am just learning more advanced aerobatics and this is why I bought this plane. Knife edge, inverted flat spins look great. I am starting to hover with it, but make sure that I am 3 mistakes high when practicing. I also just bought a carbon fiber gear to replace the soft aluminum stock gear. Eventually I will increase the throws to more acceptable 3D levels, otherwise I have no complaints. The build of this ARF was very straight forward, great manual and having the plane covered on ultracote is a huge plus IMO. For a small plane, it really flies like a larger plane and makes me look like a better pilot then I am I would not hesitate buying one if you are deciding. For $189, it's probably the best ARF I flown thus far. I think mine weighs ~6lbs.

Thanks, I already have one and have everything completed except the engine.
I will be ordering the OS 91 two stroke tomorrow. I orginally had the Tower 75 but the muffler on that thing is huge and was afraid it would not line up with the cowling without hitting the exhaust tunnel / ditch. Now you got me thinking I should use the Tower 75. How is the vertical with that engine? AND how much trouble was it to mount and get everything to line up?

?

Yes, the tower muffler is pretty big, but it just clears the tunnel cut-out on the bottom side. I actually thought the OS 91 had a longer muffler, which was one reason I didn't spring for that engine. Also, this plane can be flown from anything from a 46-91 2-stroke, so I figured the tower 75 was right in the middle. I think the vert with this plane is very good. Obvioulsy it is not unlimited, but it gets up there pretty quick with a 13x6 zinger. I got rid of the remote needle on the tower engine and it is running great. That was another reason I didn't go for the OS- can't get rid of the remote needle[:@] I don't hover close to the ground yet, so I can't commment on the tower's ability to pull it out of a hover, but I bet it could do it, but not as strongly as the OS.

Thanks Again.

I ordered the OS 91. I guess it's overkill but what the heck.

I keep you posted when I finish the install of the engine.
