Looks like hanger 9 has released an updated Showtime 50. Looks like a nice plane. Alot like the X50.

Hello to all..
I have and built and flowen the Hanger 9 Showtime 50.
here is my setup:
Motor: E-flite 60
ESC: Castle Creations 80 amp
Servos: JR ST125MG
TX /RX Spektrum DX6
Prop: APC 16x8E
Batteries: 4 THP21003SPL (wired in series / perallel)
3 1/4 foam lite wheels (no wheel skirts) tall grass!!
weight: 6.lb w RX battery
weight: 7.4lb with 4 Li-po batteries
Watts: 1105
Amps: 58
Flite time: 15min lite 3d
Harrier: Yes

The plane is real nice to fly. I set it up on low rates, and it did every thing we asked it to due. the plane can fly real slow and did not show any bad traits.
we have 2 flites on it . I will post more info as I get more time on it.


About the plane.
Out of the box it is real nice all the covering is perfect the fus is built real soild. I like the built in vert.stab.
all of the parts are good quailty. (did not like the 2 1/2 stockwheels to small)
the built was standard hanger 9. every thing when together nice ( 2 evenings)
I cut out a vent on the bottom of the fus. their is a 1"x5" pattern in the bottom of the fus just behind the wing just cut the covering out.
next. mount the motor:
I drilled four 1/2 holes in the fire wall for venting.
Next center the x Mount on the X that is on the fire wall. mark your 4 mounting holes.
use a 1/8 drill to Drill the 4 holes then drill it out for a #8 screw.
at this point I was going to use T nuts on the back of the firewall But the bracing is in the way.
So what I did was use 3" #8 /32 screws put them in from the back side of the fire wall. I used a small washer on the back side and a large washer and nut on the motor side.
use medium blue loctite.
then I used 1 1/2 spacers and mounted the motor on the 4 screws as seen in the pictures.

I mounted the ESC on the bottom of the fire wall just below the motor using cable tie mount.

then I bult a battery tray that fits in were the fuel tank would be the 4 batterys fit perfect.
the CG was right on.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions that this plane would be a full pound heavier than the Inspire 60 with a Power 60 E-conversion...glad I went with the Inspire!

I was going to make that plane a E-version also when it came available to me. What kind of performance you getting out of the eflite 60 which, was going to be my choice.

I am at 6800 feet where I fly, so there is less drag on the prop, which means a given prop up here will pull less watts than at sealevel, as I am only getting about 1100 watts out of a 17X8 APC-E, and higher pitch props deeply affect 3D ability and larger diameter props fly the plane too slow (this is with a 6S pack - would probably do better on 7S but would mean more $ in a new ESC and packs for me). I had it in a 7.2 pound Edge and it was enough for constant speed unlimited vertical and would hover and pull out, but wasn't impressive. I flew this same setup at a lower elevation of 2500 feet and it was what I would consider satisfactory, in that the pull out of a hover was almost accelerated. I am sure it will be enough for the Showtime 50 at sealevel, but up here for the best prop I have found (17X8E), I think the 6.2 pound Inspire was a better choice for me.

did you I contacted you about your edge 540 conversion. I decided to go with the showtime 50 I was worried about the problems with the AW Edge.
I think I can lighten up the plane a litte buy using different servos, lighter 3 1/4 wheels and different batteries. also I'm using 12ga wire that I could trim back a little. I will keep you posted.
also I'm going to try some other prop sizes, and battery combos to see what performance I can get out of it.
the plane has a lot of power we never got past 3/4 throttle.

I'm glad to see this plane get some interest. it is a real nice package.

It should do real nice for you. The Inspire comes with tiny, 2" wheels that weigh nothing!

bodywerks: Thanks for the reply, While im not in to all out 3D sounds like its about where I would like like. Im currently flying the 90 for pretty much IMAC and pattern so blistering power is not a requirement. At my altitude it sounds like it would give me a very nice vertical. I think this will be a very good project for myself. So was this plane sent to you as a review plane because Horizon is giving me a run around on a estimate time of arrival. Even being a manager at Hobbytown doesn't work.

I am also a manager at hobbytown,and no luck either on a release date

I just happen to luck out and find this plane at my local hobby shop. I pick it up just before Thanksgiving. my buddy is also interested in this plane and was told that if should be in next week.

Wow, your hobbyshop seems to know the tricks of the trade. Maybe im missing something, Soon as i gained word it was coming out I immediately put them on back order. Guess ill try to call horizon again and beg.

Hey Guys, This Showtime 50 sure is GOOD LOOKING plane. Got mine this past Thursady after flying a buddies Showtime 90. I can't wait ti get her in the air. May need to wait, winter is coming and we just got a new place to fly so the runway is a bit rough. Been thinking about the engine. It says it will fly on 2c 50. Must be a hot 50. I checked out the clearance and the head won't stick out in any air the way the firewall is drilled. I may us a Magnum 80 4c or I found a NIB HP61. Had one of those yaers ago and was HOT. I paln to use hs425 srevos on 6 volt. Doubt I will do any 3d not my thing, mostly sport areobatics. Ant siggestion on Engine or Servos?

I checked the weight of the Showtime 50 without the 4 Li-Po Batteries. 6LB w/ RX Battery. on the nose that is on a FE EX Shipping scale. also here is some pictures of the battery tray. Have not had a chance to fly. I did build up a Hanger 9 P51 PTS

Hi everyone. I was wondering if my os50sx would be enouth power for 3D on this plane?

I have an OS 50SX swinging a APC 12.25x3.75, It does ok, but I dont think the extra weight of the Showtime 50 would work for you.

here is the results.
my buddy who has been flying rc planes for over 20 yrs. and is a certified full scale flite instructor. test flew both the gas and electric showtime 50. we set both planes throws up the same.
the gas plane is powered with a Enya 80 4 stroke. 6.2lb dry. 7.2 wet (prop. MS 14x6)
the Electric plane is powered with a E-flite 60 /CC 80amp esc. 4 TP11.1v 2100 15c/24c Li-po's. 6lb dry. 7.24 w/bat (prop. APC 16x8)

flite times averaged 15min for both.
the gas plane has more (brute power) very heavy feel. lots of power. it does not slow down as well as the Electric. it tends to want to stall and nose in. all of the stunts were very good. hovers vertical pull out. all very good.

the electric plane. the first thing you notice is how light the plane is in the air . it will slow way down before it stalls. it has very good power. there is no hesitations or hiccups after extreme maneuvers.all the stunts were very good . hovers vertical pull out very good. much more graceful than the gas version. the plane will almost com to a complete stop before it stalls.

overall. the plane is awesome and has unlimited capabilities. both planes fly real nice.
it comes down to:
Gas(unlimited flites, messy plane, noise)
Electric (limited flites, expensive Batt. )
