Default Best Plane for spins?

My favorite thing to do flat spins and inverted flat spins. In your great wisdom, what are some of the best planes in the 40 or 60 range to do this? I have a Sig Something Extra 40 and it is not good. I love the look of the Pulse. Is that a good one for extreme crazy spins?

I dont think there is anyone here with infinite wisdom but in general any of the thick winged planes like the pulse, U CAN DO, Flip or a profile will do great flat spins if they are tailheavy. Also good power helps.

The best flat spining planes (inverted flat spin) I've found are as follows and listed in order. I have experiece with all of these but I'm sure there are many others but I don't think they make planes that spin better than these.

1. Mayhem 90 size: Does the best of the bunch. Will do inverted rising flat spin. Pinwheels. Super easy.
2. UCD60: Does inverted rising flat spin. Pinwheels. very easy.
3. UCD46: Same as it's bigger brother but is more subject to wind.
4. Mayhem 40: Does them including the rising flat spin but is subject to wind. Is very light.
5. Twist: Great flat spins, it you do everything absolutly perfect you can get it to rise, some.
6. Harrier 3D 90: Does great flat spins but won't rise.
7. GP CAP 27%: Great inverted flat spins. Amazing, especially for it's size.
8. Fusion X3D 90 size: Great flat spins, no rise.
9. Showtime: Great with SFG but won't rise.
10. Velox 90 size: Great flying plane, most precise of the bunch, great flat spins, no rise.
11. EF Yak 68": Great spins, harder than above but does them nice, but no rise.
12. AirWild 29% Extra: Great spins, not as easy as the others, no rise.
13. Ultra Stick Lite 120 size: Does amazing upright flat spins, not good at inverted. Fun though.

That will give you a good place to start.

Thanks
Barry

8. Fusion X3D 90 size: Great flat spins, no rise.
I've gotten my OMP Fusion 90 to spin upright going up. Once I get the spin coming down and the amount of "feather" for a good slow descent, I coax it up to a nose high attitude and let it corkscrew back up. It's not really a flat spin on the way up, but its fun

My CG is very neutral right now (almost no down elevator for inverted sustained flight). It balloons a little on landing because of this, but spins are really easy towards the tank empty state.

I'm running a Saito 125 with a Skorepa 16x6 prop. Dry weight is 7 lbs 5 oz.

Barry
don't know how you fill about profiles,i can keep a mojo 40 in a inverted flatspin without loseing any altitude till the fuel runs out, just can't get it to do a rising flatspin, that is with a ys 63,very tight pinwheels.the omp ultimate is my favorite to do flatspins and tumbles with a saito 100 one great flying plane everyone that flies 3d should have one of these!
ENJOY!

Barry, you sooooooooo need a profile. Like yer list of birds.

I like flat spins too. You want some thing with a bigass rudder.

Profiles do them great and the Chinn Yakk will do all of them all. Upright, inverted and climbing inverted, slow or fast. There is some vid of a Chinn Yakk doing upright flatspin landings and taking off again.

Ynot...

I have a profile. # 8 on the list. I really do love the way it flys. But...It is listed #8 on the list because it doesn't do the flat spins as well as the 7 ahead of it. Other things it does better.

Flat spins are my favorite maneuver. I feel I have rated the planes in the proper order. But I don't have the smaller profiles. But frankly, when you see the Mayhem with the great big wing do a rising flat spin, I just don't see how it could get any better. Thing of beauty.

Thanks
Barry

Oh, almost forgot...

Ynot is right you need a big rudder. Once the plane is flat you need the rudder to over power everthing else. I basically use very little elevator after it's flat. You need a lot of elevator to get flat but once there it's all about the rudder and modulating the ailerons and throttle.

Thanks
Barry

Yea, I saw the Fusion on the list.

Let me be more specific, a short coupled profile with a big fat wing.

I will get an inverted lifting flat spin with my Tribute .36/ O.S. 46. It flat spins so nicely I once spun her into the ground inverted. It was just too beautiful to let go of the sticks. Prop stopped and nothing broke. Flipped it over and threw it back in the air.

Hands down my OMP EDGE 47" with an OS 46.

My UCD 46 is good but the profile Edge is a riot. I am not sure how I get it into it, but it can do a semiflat spin (like 60 deg in the vertical) and just hang there goin nuts. The plane could almost land spinning - I am just to chicken to try. It is weird but this plane can almost fly flat.

I will agree with the rest that flatties are best when it comes to spins. They are the best when its for pure 3D mayhem. I seen some flatties spin totally flat like a pizza being tossed. I had a flattie and it would spin really flat if I got the entry and throttle right. Also, I believe that flatties always have HUUUUUUUUGE control surfaces compared with most full bodied planes.

Best plane I ever had that could flatspin either direction was Dave Patrick Ulty 160. That thing could switch from inverted to upright flatspins and back over and over so easiliy and look oh so pretty.

I agree with Dion on this one. An Ultimate is a great flat spin bird. Never flown any of the smaller ones, however the big ones do them great.

My Burrito (.40, 4 lbs, YS 63) is my best spinning plane. It does very tight inverted and upright spins and easily rises while spinning. When I first got it spinning well one of the watchers said,"its going up. How does it do that?"Next best is my Mojo 60. My UCD 46 (OS .91 4 stroke) does not spin as well as the others for me. I am going to practice more with it.

Wow, thank you guys for the great input. I think I am going to hobbytown over lunch and ordering a Sig Mayhem 40. I have a new Saito .82 at home for it. From what you have all said, it shounds like the profiles would give the best performance but I am still stuck on having a normal looking fuse. The Mayhem sounds like a beautiful performer, I was hoping the Pulse would be a good 3d plane because it is awesome looking, but the truth is that I haven't heard much from the vets here to indicate that. Thanks again for all the advise!

turn your sole over to the flatties gods, they will save you from the curse of the fatties, once you go flat you will always take a flattie with you to the field, more times than not that is all i take to the field, when it comes to 3d NOTHING beats a good profile! got to go it is sunny and 50 outside the mojo and omp ultimate are going flying.
ENJOY!
