Quality is a bit better with the Aeroworks planes, IMO, and they are FAR more "ARF" than the TOC or any other ARF. The Aeroworks is prehinged, canopy preinstalled, firewall premounted, cowl premounted, landing gear premounted, wheelpants premounted, holes predrilled in the srfaces for the control horns, and the hardware is VERY complete and quite useable. The only stuff I switched out were the zipties, foam, and velcro.
Count on the weights to be about the same, though, and they both fly well. You might want to ask Chief if he has spare parts on hand, too, with all the stuff going on with TOC/Aviation models right now...

The quality of the TOC models is impeccable but bodywerks is right the Aeroworks planes will fly together and I know they fly great too. If you want to get into the air fast with the least work possible I would definitely choose the Aeroworks they have never done me wrong in the past and they look so good.

Varies. I have seen reports anywhere from 16-3/4 to 19.5 pounds. To do it at 17 would probably require a stock muffler (not a pitts muffler), wood prop, CF spinner or no spinner, and a 12 ounce, or less battery system, including the ignition. One could do an 8-9 ounce system with lipos. Getting under 17 would likely also require CF parts.
I haven't seen reports of the TOC being much lighter, if any.

I may be wrong, but I believe you are talking about Aerotech not Aeroworks.

I see no combo deal on the remaining red Aeroworks Yaks.

You did have me excited though for a moment. The Aeroworks with a DA at $1095 or $1150 would be a steal.

My Aeroworks 50cc Yak QB weighs 17# 5oz. Has a 3.5oz beef up job around the gear. DA 50 with stock muffler. TruTurn 3.5" lightened P51 spinner, wood prop, Hitec 5955's all around except 5625 on throttle, 2400 TBM Lions for receiver and ignition, MPI regulator switches, stock tank, stock hardware. Presently flying with a Vess 23A prop and it flat hauls the plane. Nice combination.

Are you running two 2400's on the receiver or just one? Another option would be to go with a single 2400 Peerless, which would drop up to 5 ounces off of the standard dual-2400 Fromeco relions setup.
If you are 17.3 pounds with your setup, a real weight-concious fellow could definitely get this plane down to 16-3/4 pounds...

bodywerks, I'm using separate 2400 Lions for the receiver and for the ignition. Yes, I agree, with CF wing tubes, the lighter gear reinforcement mod, no wheel pants and skip the spinner, the plane could easily be 1/2# lighter. Flies plenty light as it is. Glad it's not heavier, though.

Well, having a true 1400+ squares, it should fly plenty light at 17.3 pounds...but would fly lighter at 16.7, LOL!
