Yamada vs. Saita

Your choice is between the Saito 82 and the YS 63-s. They are both the same weight and power, but the Saito can swing a bigger prop(14 inch) and the Ys likes smaller(12-13 inch) prop and higher revving. They pull about the same though. I have done some research on the same matter as I need a new engine for my 3-d profiles and have found that in very light small profiles the Saito shakes and vibrates too much. I`m going for the YS 63 myself. Do you have access to high nitro fuel in Russia??? both engines needs 20-30% nitro to make the most power, but the Saito will run good on 15% too. The YS need minimum 20%

For my opinion Saito 82 is much better then Yamada 63. The best power/weight ratio from all listed engine, + Saito little more simple in adjustment (especially in winter conditions) In anyway Saito 72 or 82 (80 is too heavy). About vibration: in well adjustment Saito work more “softâ€. About fuel: Yamada need “Yamada Blend†(20% synt. Oil + 20% nitro). Saito well run on all 4-cycle from 5% to 30% (I like 15% CoolPower).

I have Saito 1.00 and YS63-Z. Everything said above is true except Saito being better then YS.
Saito 82 will swing bigger prop then YS, but slower.
YS will swing smaller prop but a little faster with better throttle response.
There is nothing like throttle response from YS. It is better then electric
.
Once you try YS you will never look back.

One more thing to think about is the idle speed of a saito compared to a YS motor. The saito will idle as low as 1800-1900 RPM while the YS may only Idle at 2000-2200 RPM, it makes a BIG difference when you trying to land on a small to medium size runway + lower idle just makes touch down so smooth and it sounds cool
. I guess it really depends on the type of plane/flying and the auw of the model, each engine has it's place no doubt.

I have used both brands in larger displacements and both are good engines. IMO, Saitos are reliable and user friendly, but messier. YS engines are reliable, transition immediately, generally produce more power and have the advantage of using the pressurized fuel system. This is very important if you decide to move the fuel tank back closer to the CG. The Saito will require some type of pump or regulator at additional cost to be able to do this. It really boils down to whatever brand you prefer and can obtain the best support for.

Sorry for misunderstanding.
I meant to say that everything is correct, except phrase about Saito being better.
I personally prefer YS.
IMHO YS has better throttle response then Saito.
But it is really personnel preference. Both are great engines.
I like Saito it is lightweight, swings big prop, and pulls great. But every time when I switch from plane with Saito to the plane with YS...It feels more responsive.
I'd rather have better throttle response then swing slower bigger prop.
But then again it depends on particular plane set up. Some planes will 3D better with the biggest prop you can get on them, but it is not true for every plane.

Just curious, what are the optimal 3D prop's for these two great engines (YS .63 & Saito .82)? I plan some day to put either 1 of these fine 4 strokes or an OS .46 AX on a PA Badboy V2 or the 40 size OMP Katana.

I have YS63. I like 13x6 APC or MA.
With APC 13x4W YS has a little too much rpm and feels like plane fly a little too slow.
14x4W is not spooling fast enough for my taste and I think overheating my YS here at 0ft elevation and over 100degF outside.
So I ended up using any 13x6. Also, I use YS20/20 fuel.
I don't have Saito 82, but people report APC 14x4W is great on this motor.

I been eye ballin the OMP 52" fusion, I could settle on a 13x6 with the supercharged YS since acceleration is so quick it's not like you would not have enough low speed acceleration torque, I think
. Would there be any noticable advantages to using a YS? Like fuel consumption? Or anything? I think as for now i'm leaning towards the Saito .82, but tomarow could be a differant story. :P

Hi Guys,
I have found that if you like to not have to adjust your mixture screws after each flight get a YS.
These motors are the best set and forget I have ever found.
My mates are always having to fiddle with their Saito's or any other 4 stroke for that matter, where as I just fire up my YS motors and get a beautiful idle and fantastic response evey time.
So in closing if you are a fiddler buy a Saito or OS etc
If you want to fly and not fiddle buy a YS.
I run 30% nitro 20-22% coolpower and never any problems on any of my YS engines.
Good luck..
