About 9 years ago I visited the local club before I started flying and was bitten by a very nasty bug. Even to this day, I still get itches from that initial bite. However, I have found they can usually be satisfied by a new airplane.

It was actually probaley the worst spot it could have happened. It was about 15 seconds from tuchdown on final aproach. If i was up high i could have yeld for a fellow club member to take control.
Latter on, i got hit in the face by a frequen bumbler. One of those huge black bee things. I gues i was the target today LOL

I had a few run ins with bee's while flying.
The first time was pretty funny after the fact. I was running a bottle knock over event at a helicopter fun fly. A guy that was doing the event finished his round and we were waiting for the next contestant. He asked If I wanted to have a go at it with his machine and I figured why not. I was almost done with the last bottle when a bee flew right into the side of my glasses. It was basically trapped between my eye and my glasses playing a game of pinball. Helicopter took a few wild moves, but I was able to get the glasses off without getting stung.
Another time we were flying at our regular spot. One of the guys went to hover his helicopter over some weeds. The next thing we knew there was about a billion bee's flying out of the weeds trying to get away from all the smoke. I kid you not, it was like something out of a horror movie. The sky was dark with bees. We were all damn lucky that day. The bees only wanted to get away from all the smoke. Had they been in attack mode, I have no doubt someone would have died.
The last one was no fun either. I was at a funfly. I went to take a sip off of my drink and a damn bee had flown in to the can. I took a sip and it stung me on my bottom lip. Damn thing hurt so bad it brought tears to my eyes. My bottom lip swelled up about the size of my forarm. Lucky thing I didnt swallow the bee and get stung in my mouth or throat. My lip hurt like hell for two days.

Bugs? BUGS? Bug Schmug!! [>:]
Got any rattlers around your field? [X(]
Our field is owned by the City of Arvada. They bought the land over an abondoned rock quarry for a couple million bucks. We lease it for about $1000/yr. BUT--it's technically a city park. It's a prarie dog sancuary. Relocated prarie dogs from the front range are relocated to several "sanctuaries" and our airfield is one of them. It was specified in the terms of the lease and we can't get out of it. Can't shoot, poison or harrass in any manner these darn little prarie dogs. They camp out on the runway, dig holes under and around the concrete runway. They dig holes IN the grass runway. We HATE 'em, but we can't do anything about it.
All them little dogs running around attracts quite a nice population of predators too. Hawks, coyotes and RATTLE snakes.
Watch your step when you go to retrieve a downed or crashed plane. A guy saw one 10' off the west end of the runway last season.
Bugs! You sissies!! Come on out to Colorado and play!!

Lol, havn't seen a rattler yet. There have been on a few occasions where there were about 3000 geese in the imidiate vicinity. I was surprised how well they avoided the planes.
