RE: Review: EF Yak 74" and Brillelli 46cc
Sorry to hear about your bad luck. I've been there twice this year as well.
1st crash was with my 28% VeloxII. Right wing came off in a hard snap roll. And no I didn't manage to land it like some of the experts have done.
2nd crash was with a 30% SD Extra 260 / 366gt. The xtal vibrated out of my receiver and I got to watch it gracefully fly into the ground. A really sick feeling for sure.
I'm now putting together this Yak combo. Scott will be shipping my 46 this week. just hope I can get a few flights on it before the snow flies.
Just curious, what radio setup were you running?

Ya it's a painful experience thats for sure First time I have had that happen on one of my planes.
I was running a Futaba 9Z WC-2 with a 148 PCM receiever. It went into complete failsafe... was another radio around on my channel.

That really stinks. For me, it hurts even worse when it's not my fault. Not that it matters in the end.
I just bought a JR 9303 2.4. Hope that eliminates a few problems anyway. We have been getting lots of hits at our local field. And even my JR pcm receivers would go into hold in a certain part of the field.
Thanks for all the great information in this thread.

I will probably be switching to JR myself after 3 yrs with Futaba. At IMAC contests you always see JR guys.. don't see as many Fuataba guys, Horizon Service is better and you get more for your money with JR. The 12Z and 14Z are nice radios but more than double of a 9303 and don't have enough features to justify the money in my mind.
I may resurect this thread and do another 74" EF with the 26. I do need to find a home for it.
I have plans for an 88" EF Extra and a 110" EF Yak for next season... have to get saving my pennies! We will see what happens... the 26 has me very curious to see what it can do without and with a pipe

Sounds like the 26 is a really strong engine. EF has some great planes. The Extra should be really nice.
This is my first YAK. I've had a VeloxII and Extra 260. I really like the round cowl planes and decided to give a YAK a try this time. I have a .40 size Sukhoi SU26 that I did with an Electric Outrunner and 16 round cells. It flies great.
So far I really like the 9303. Has all the programming I need and is easy to program. If you don't need servos you can get the price down a little and that helps.
Good luck on your next plane!

I haven't flown this plane in a while, but I took it to the field today for a shakedown. With the normal warps that find themselves in a plane like this, it has just a little left aileron dialed in to make it fly level. Not unusual.
However, whenever I give the plane a little left rudder, it wants to take a roll left also. I had some mixing dialed in for a nice knife edge, but its too much for slower flying where I don't want the mix (like landing). Now, with the mixing turned either on or off, when in slow flight, if I feed in some left rudder, it starts to roll left, either slow or faster, depending on the mix setting.
Any suggestions? This plane has been moved to kind of a "backup" status just because I haven't been able to get it dialed in right. It flies, it lands, and it will perform basic aerobatic stuff, but its just not as predictable as some of my other planes.

Have you ever done the incidences on this plane? There is a whole wack of them that had the stabs and/or wings off in relation to each other. It is a one evening fix.And should be checked with an incidence meter.

RE: Review: EF Yak 74" and Brillelli 46cc
Yes... the wings were off a bit, but nothing I could do about it (that's why there's always a little left roll dialed in to keep level flight). The stabs were also both set with a couple degrees of "up" compared to the wings.
The maiden on this flight was pretty hairy. I think I discussed it earlier on this tthread, but I needed 4 thumbs to keep it in the air until we could get it adjusted enough to land it. I filed the stab alignment holes after that, and it made for a much more managable plane. It flies pretty easy today, but that last 10% of control just isn't there. I'm not a 3D person by any means, but I let a friend who is fly it yesterday... the tail just would not lock in on a hover. Landings are a bit of a challenge until you train yourself to add in just a touch of opposite aileron if you hit the rudder. I'd like to fly it more, but the squirliness just keeps it sitting on the basement floor.
Chris makes some great planes, more on the way, but I just can't get the wrinkles ironed out of this one.

RE: Review: EF Yak 74" and Brillelli 46cc
I had some problems with mine as well. My plane needed quite a bit of left trim. Incidence was fine. When I looked at the plane from the rear I noticed the left airleron was warped and the left elevator was warped quite a bit. I was able to straighten out the airleron with a heat iron, but the elevator just couldn't be fixed. I talked to Chris from EF and sent him a picture of the elevator. He sent me a new left stab and elevator and it looks much better now. Haven't had a chance to fly it yet. It's 12 degrees and wind blowing 25mph.... ARG!
Here is a picture of mine with some nice badbrad graphics applied.

yeah, Chris at EF takes good care of his customers. I was at the field yesterday and saw the 150 cc prototype that he announced back in October.. man, this thing is georgeous in the air! New trim schemes, very sturdy looking, and in the hands of a good pilot, it was a real joy to watch it.
I don't know if I'm willing to spend a lot more time to make it right. I've turned my focus to an Extreme Composites 100cc Edge 540, and the new Aeroworks 50cc biplane... it should make for a fun pair to fly this coming season. The Yak will just sit in the basement until I feel like I need to plane to slap around for a few tanks! Its designed for 3D pilots, and that's not what I do. It's not a bad plane for what its designed to do, but I just don't care to do that.
Nice graphics on your plane! Bad Brad has done a couple of planes for me, ALWAYS a great job. I ordered the stuff for my last plane from Kirby's.. I think I'll go back to Brad from now on. On multilayer graphics, Brad pre-mounts all the layers for you, so you only mount 1 layer. There was 1 logo on my last plane that was 4 layers.... putting all 4 layers on perfectly aligned with no bubbles is a task I'd rather leave to the professionals.

RE: Review: EF Yak 74" and Brillelli 46cc
I personally don't fly 3D as well. I wanted something small to throw in the car and fly at the field down the road. I'm not a very good pilot at this point. I'd like to practice some IMAC this year. This plane will be fine for sport flying and trying some new stuff. If mine isn't perfect it will be ok with me.
I am waiting in line for the EF 88" Extra. I will work at getting that one dialed in as perfectly as I can get it.
Good luck.

reyn It realy sounds like something is warped or something. I have flown 3 of these and havent had the problem you are having. Are you sure you don't have a hidden mix or something that you aren't aware of?

RE: Review: EF Yak 74" and Brillelli 46cc
hi again Cameron 724,
i have a smoke setup on one of my planes. sullivan skywriter [link]http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&P=SM&I=LXDES4[/link] very easy to setup and well explained in the manual. keep in mind that unless you use a header and canisters you wont see the kind of smoke that you see in some of the videos on the web. with the stock muffler you would want to drill and tap so that the smoke nipple will be as close to aimming across the exhaust port from the head. you want the smoke oil to be shot directly in front of the exhaust coming from the head inside the muffler. this is so that you get the most smoke from you stock muffler. the other thing is you will go through ALOT of smoke fast!!! mine has a 32oz fuel tank that will fly for around 25 minutes. i have a 40 oz smoke oil tank and get around 4 minutes of smoke. dont forget that this is alot of weight with a full smoke oil tank (regardless of the tank size) to add to any plane.
