G'day chaps
I have recently got back in to the RC world, prompted by some target flying, which was extremely good fun! but that is another story.
I have been flying a Shadow (smaller version of the Power 3D, not sure who makes it) It is my first foray in to an F3A style aircraft, and I love it. Currently have a 55 AX on the front, maybe a little light on, but good fun none the less.
I really want to get in to 3D flying with a few restrictions. They may sound a little narrow minded, but I am fairly obstinate and you have to enjoy what you fly, so here goes.
1. I would like a 40 - 50 size aircraft.
2. I don't fly profiles, I don't like the way they look
3. I want to run an OS .75 AX. I don't do four stroke. Sorry, probably dumb not to but I love the way 2 strokes sound and smell!
4. I really like the look of the Kyosho Flip 3D, anything else in his sort of category available, or have things moved on in design since it was released. Maybe the Fliton ACRO 40?
5. I Only "build" ARF (cause I am lazy)
6. The aircraft needs to be capable of advanced manuevers, even though I am not. I don't want a trainer 3D. If it spuds in, and I like it, I will build another. Crashing is a spectacular and reasonably constant reminder in my flying career of the need to improve.
Any suggestions, particularly pertainng to the Flip 3D?
Finally I want a Go Fast weekender to thrash about the skies like the neighbours dog after it devours your cat. I don't actually like cats, but anyway. I had a look at the Model Tech Extra 300 36 size. I have a well run in Super Tigre G-51 that I reckon would give it a fair amount of hoot. What do you think? Also can I get pre tuned light weight tuned pipes for the 51? I have the mother of all pipes that I brought in 1996, but I feel the weight gain far outweighs any potential power gains.
Cheers, sorry to drop such a large message on you all.
May your flights be prosperous and your fuel tanks full

1. Showtime 50
2.U Can Do 3D 46
3.FuntanaX50
If you are thinking about putting a 75 on it you might aswell just put a 91 on it. Most 91's weigh less than 61's and 75's and have the same case so it mounts in the same area.

you also want a fast plane right?......how about a viper500 or predatorII. The extra 300 that you mentioned is not a good flier but would be fast with your G-51. A Viper500 would do about 130mph atleast with your G-51.

Yeah, my old flight instructor just got in to 500 class, and he has a Viper, it certainly was speedy, but I just didn't like the lines on it. i also want the aircraft to look good. Plus I don't like mixing, not that I have tried it, but I just know that I won't like it! I will check out the Predator-II. I haven't heard of that one. I had a look at the 3Ds you recommended, saw a few flight videos, still like the Flip 3D at this stage. I understand if I go 75 AX why not go 91, but then if I go 91, why not new 120 AX, fits in the same size mounts as a 90, so OS claims??

that is true but 1.20 is going to be way overkill and you will have a hard time with ground clearance.....on a 91 you would want a 15x5,15x4 or a w16x4. you still might have ground clearance problems with a 91 on a 50 size plane.
As for a fast plane that looks good what about a warbird or a pattern plane? there also are some prop jets like the phoenix models f-20 and a lanier f-4 phantom with a 50sx that i am selling....

Flip's ROCK. Great flying airplane. Flys best light light light. 75 on a Flip would ruin the airplane. AX55 on a Flip would be the ticket or a Weston 50 on the pipe if you could find one if you want to go 2 stroke. Cut the wing tips off the Flip. Don't ask questions why, just do it. Do a search on the Flip, lots of good info.
Inspire is a great bird. AX 75 on it should work well. I flew one on a YS 63 and was not impressed with the power, however the airplane was dreamy.
The GP Reactor flys great and on the 75 should work. I have not been able to fly a well set up one to really give a 3D report. Both were set up pattern, not 3D. Didn't have the throws to really try to toss it around.
I know you say you don't want a profile. AX 75 and a Mojo 60 will change your world.

Tony, thanks for the offer, but I also failed to mention I am not in to Jets with props. I feel they look a little bizarre. I will keep seraching around and see what I come up with.
YNOT, thanks for the good sell on the Flip, however yu may have left the plug for the Mojo a little late, my heart seems to be set on the flip now. You sure the 75 AX would ruin the aircraft? I only ask cause I may want to use that size motor in something else down the track. I was doing some research last night in to the Jett engines. Are they any good? More importantly do they last? And is it worth putting one of those pre-tuned pipes on the Super Tigre and OS engines. They have some data that indicates some significant increases in RPM.
Thanks again

Sounds like you want a plane that flies like a profile, but is not a profile...that's a tough one. I flew a Flip with a Saito 91 and it was a great plane/engine combo. Not sure, but I assume an OS75 would be real close on power. I have a Supertigre 51 on my profile mojo now. Plenty of power, but not the greatest engine for 3D as it's midrange response is a tad slow. On the other hand in a hover with a 12x4 prop the engine is in it's sweet spot and has perfect response. It's just the response from down low, with quick throttle that it isn't that great at. I wouldn't bother with tuned pipes. You want low end torque for 3D, not peaky topend power. There are exceptions obviously, but I've seen some engines loose their linear throttle response with tuned pipes in trade with more power. Not worth it to me.
