Default Saito 150 and 18x8 prop, need help!

I recently flew my Funtana 90 with a 150 Saito in it for the first time the other day, and I love the motor so far. I only have one issue with it. I can hover the plane at about half throttle with a 18x8 prop, but if I try to give it anything more than that it won't pull out of the hover. I don't think I am under or over propped, so I am not sure why I don't get any more after half throttle. I bought a tach yesterday and this weekend I will figure out my rpm's.

I am running 15% nitro in it.

Could this be a prop issue?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I think you are over propped. At least for hovering. I would try a 17x6APC or even a 17x4W APC.

Lilone,

18x6W or 18x4W will do it. Any more pitch than that and your in high gear. Try to get a 18x4W if you can. The less the pitch the lower the gear just like in a vehicle. What your doing with the 18x8 is like trying to start out in a car in 5th gear. Doesn't work well does it?

JMHO,

Gibbs

Okay, thanks for the help!! I figured this motor could handle it, I'll definately go a lower pitch. What does W stand for anyway? Wood?

Lilone,

It means Wide. Just ask for one at you LHS or look for it on Tower Hobbies. They have a huge selection of APC props. That is where I get my wide props. Wide also will act as a break for landing by slowing the plane as it comes down. It will also change your takeoff role a lot. You will take off much sooner.
