Can anyone recommend any books/websites that explain the proper setup for aerobatic/3D flight? Interested in learning about differential, mixing etc.


I read an old article that states mixing out coupling should be left on all the time and not activated by switch - example...knife edge flight - is this correct?


Im just getting started in precision aerobatics/ 3d flight.

David Scott, does a very nice job in his series of spiral bound manuals teaching everything from beginning to advanced in an excellent format. He's the owner of the "First RC Flight School" I think and has been doing this for quite a while. I used these to demonstrate advanced procedures to my kids. Other than those there are a few others out there that are not as complete. I also subscribe to every RC magazine there is and the aerobatics forums as well. I'm sure others will have good recommendations that would yield a complete reference.

Check out the Troy Built Models web site. It has some very good info on set-up and flying 3D.

The best way is to hang out with accomplished 3D guys if you can.

I hang out with great guys that fly 30% + (sigh!) - One day....but with our flying season coming to an end...our schedules change during the winter since we dont have the daylight to fly after work. I would like to make as much progress and learn as much as I can about great set ups on my own in the mean time.

Look out for a model that requires as little coupling as possible.
I use rudder mixing for K/E and leave it switched on all the time but it's not an exact science.
Different air speeds will require a different setting and when you give full rudder for K/E loops there will always be too much mixing so it's always a compromise. Use five point mixers if you have them available to you.
