What are the distinctions between the following Extra 300 models?

Extra 300
Extra 300S
Extra 300L
Extra 300X
Extra 300XS

I've never seen them side-by-side, so I cannot tell if they are different. Thanks.

230 - mid wing, single seat, based on Laser
260 - mid wing, slightly more powerful than 230
300 - mid wing, two seat
300S - lowered wing, single seat
300L - wing lowered even further, two seat
300X - no such plane
300SX - A version of the 300S with a larger tail
300LX - A version of the 300L with a larger tail
330S & 330L - another way to label the 300SX and 300LX
200 - 200HP version of the 300L

300 is a 2 seater shoulder wing aircraft, the first of the extra 300 line. 300S is a midwing single seater. The 300L is a low wing 2 seater. Never heard of an Extra 300X, but the 300XS is the S version with larger tail surfaces and some have added a 330 horse engine, hence where the 330 comes from. 330 is not an official name but rather a nickname that airshow pilots use on their modified Extra's. The L version is also larger than the S model, a 40% 300L is about the same size as a 40% 300S. Hope this helps.

Thanks fellas. Are the flight characcteristics of each very different?Which version is the most forgiving, and best as a first aerobatic plane? I'm guessing the 300.

I think they're all pretty similar, and I've flown most versions. Something like the GP Extra 60 size or Goldberg Extra are good beginner Extras, but if you are looking for a second plane I wouldn't recommend an Extra.

300 - This was the first design, Shoulder wing 300hp.

300 Special - very small number built, single seat version of 300

300s - Single seat version - low wing, with the wings clipped and roll rate increased. For improved visibility and results in cleaner Snap entry and exit.

300L - Single seat version of 300s

330 S & L - 330hp - version, larger elevators and I think increased rudder area. very few of these exist one is owned by Peter bessenyie.

I hear that for R/C, the 230 is the best, as it has the highest wing, and a load of other stuff I cannot remember. It wasn't the best of the Extras though, again I don't remember why. But if Quique can win with an L, and CPLR a 330, I am sure any of them will do us juuuuusst fine!
