Default Up thrust

Some people tend to say up thrust is a good thing when comes time to hover. That seems perfectly correct to me but I would like to know if up thrust can help in hovers but screw up all other flight characteristics.

I am scratch building a Cap 232 73" with a YS 140 DZ and about 10.5 pounds total flying weight. I plan to 3D a lot with it but I WANT the aircraft to still be easy to fly with no bad habits.

Any recommendations would be appreciated since I am almost finished but not too late to make adjustments before finishing the airplane.
