Default best prop?

hi i have just got my saito 82 golden knight its going in a hangar 9 showtime 50 what prop yould you use for first time fly with it and a prop for prop hanging?
also what fule do you recomemd?

id go with a 13-5 or a 13-6 and to hang on the prop id go a 13-4w if they make it. i would recommend a premium sport (synthetic- castor) blend type fuel with 15 percent nitro and 18 percent oil content. all of the major brands have it. for example byron coolpower wildcat etc.

Are you kidding?

A 13x5 or 13x4W is *WAY* too small for a Saito 82 and barely adequate for a Saito 72.

I get just over 10,000 RPMs on the ground with either a 13x6 or 14x4W on my 82 -- and I'm only running 10% nitro. Some folks (who use 20%-30% nitro) run their 82s with 14x6 or 15x4 props.

You really need to prop these engines for 9,700-10,000 RPMs on the ground to get maximum performance in the air. If you run a 13x5 or 13x4W you *will* over-rev the engine and miss out on much of the stump-pulling power the 82 has to offer.

ill get a 13x6 my first flight as i have to use up all my old 10% lol will it have enough power to peop hang and pull out on 10%?
also m getting iderling problems if i rev it then put it to idle it will idle perfect for a cuple seconds then it will just start to lose all revs so i have had to lean up the low end idle, fine now but from full throtal it "serches"and revs a little till it settals down in to a good idle is that ok?

lean the low end until it dies when you stab the throttle fast, then richen back up 1/8-1/4 turn..

This may take 2 full turns or more,,,,,Saito comes very very rich on the low end. It can not be expected to run correctly until this is done.

This is how you get good deals on used Saitos ,, most people have never tuned the low end of any engine


Heres a cut and paste .

The following text that describes low-speed needle adjustment applies to all Saito single cylinder engines except the Saito-30 that has an air-bleed type carb. For an air-bleed type carb the procedure is the same except turning the screw in will richen the mixture.

Next lower the throttle on your transmitter stick all the way back and adjust the throttle trim so that the rpm is about 2200--2400 rpm or whatever you think is a reliable lowest speed; do not try for a very low idle rpm until you have more time on the engine.. You should next adjust the low-speed needle, and you want the leanest possible low-speed needle setting without the engine quitting when you rapidly advance the throttle from its lowest position to half-throttle or full throttle. You will notice that with the main throttle stick all the way back, if you lean the low-speed needle the rpm will increase, therefore after you make an adjustment of the low-speed needle you should re-adjust the throttle trim for about 2200--2300 rpm. or whatever you think is the lowest reliable idle speed.

Assuming the low-speed needle was initially first in a rich seeting, turn it in about 1/8 turn, reset transmitter trim for 2200-2300 rpm, and then rapidly advance the throttle from lowest position to about 1/2 throttle. If the engine does not quit, repeat the procedure, until the engine quits , then turn it out 1/8 turn at a time, readjusting throttle trim, until you have the leanest mixture without the engine quitting when you rapidly advance the throttle.

Also , Xjet is correct on prop sizing, He is in the know I like the 14X6 mas K w/ 30%


One other bit of advice get a Primo Kit from Swaneyshouse, to build and have ready for when this one goes in,, You'll thank me Later
