Default Electirc to Glow Conversion

I have a OS S-.30 engine that needs a home. It will swing a 9x6 - 11x4 prop at 13000 rpm.

I was thinking about converting an electric to glow since this is where most of the 4lb planes are being manufactured now. How do you think the Sukhoi 29 S30E .30 from Hobby-Lobby would be as a glow model???

Here is the link: http://www.hobby-lobby.com/sukhoi29.htm

This motor only weights 7.5 oz.

Total weight of recomended electric equipment 13.7oz.

Total weight of my equipment: 9.5oz.

With adding a 6 oz tank that brings the weight total to 16.5 oz. That is an increase of just under 3oz.

anything with a 45 inch wingspan or less. try extreme flights new extra, a mini funtana, one of nitroplanes line of yaks extras edges and many more i recomend selling the engine simply because any of these planes will preform best with electric but its up to you and i have a mini funtana with electric power, its ok i guess, but my funtana 100 is sick!!! i chose it over my 50cc yak any day i think the site is www.nitroplanes.com and www.extremeflightrc.com

Well, I have decided the uncertainty of a conversion is too much head ache. I have picked up a Global Tequila Sunrise for my little .30

It won't Huck worth a crap, but it will definately give my fingers a good work out and keep me on my toes. Local hobby shop let me take it from them dirt cheap.

A guy out at my field did something like that... I think he put an OS 40 or maybe a 46 into this little bitty Yak 54. Couldn't have a wingspan more than 40 inches. The thing is a riot. Great little flyer!

Will do Walt. I'm only a few hours into the build, but man, this little thing is build like a tank. It has as much ply wood as it does balsa... LOL.

I'm sure it will be fast. I'll be turning a 9x6 prop at 13000 in a wing span of only 36" and a weight of 2lbs 10oz.

Here is one I converted a couple of days ago. Its a Quique Yak 49" with an OS 32SX. The RTF weight is only 2 oz heavier than the electric version and mine is alot stronger. I will also lighten by adding Titanium features soon. With 510 square inches this should fly very well!

Nice.... I like it.... Looks like you should have plenty of pull out too.

Well, I have got the engine, cowling and all neccessary harward installed on the tequilla. For giggles I wanted to find out where I would be at on weight, so I put all the remaining hardware in a bag and then weighed the tequila seperately. She is going to come in at 2lbs 12oz.

That makes me very happy, seeing as the advertised weight is 3bls 8oz.

This plane only has 2sq. Ft of wing. That puts my wing loading at a very managable 22oz. per sq. ft.

Most people are getting around 26+ which can make this little guy a real handful.

It won't be anywhere close to 3D, but it will make a very fast Aerobat.[>:]

Thats nice!

I'll bet you could loose some weight if you could get rid of the pits muffler somehow.
What battery you useing on that for the receiver pack?
BIG difference in a 5 cell 700 pack and a 4 cell 250.

You could also loose the tail wheel and just put on a peice of bent wire as a tail skid. There is another few grams gone.

The pitts muffler is lighter than the factory one and the only way to get less weight out of one is make it from Titanium. I cant not find one any lighter. The battery pack is a 2 cell Li Po 640 mAh. The regulator is one from Novak and weighs only .3 oz with switch. Total batt and reg weight is 1.8 oz. I havnt put any thought into making a skid for the plane because I tend to drag the tail across the field and it needs to be strong. I do believe this plane will be light enough to fly very well but I still want to get the RTF oz's to 51.
