Servos for Elevator on GP Extra 300 .60
I am building this plane with a pull pull rudder setup and I dont want to run a single elevator servo with 2 pushrods or 2 elevator servos with one rod each.
I plan on locating 2 mini servos in the tail with one driving each elevator half or connecting the elevators with 1/8" Music wire and driving them both with one hi torque servo. The short linkage is just a lot smoother and the geometry is much better.
I need power because I have changed the elevator...it is now ~50% of the chord with counter balances (Like the Extra 300XL/330).
Would an Airtronics 94141 (56in/oz, .16sec. on 6V, Coreless Metal Gears) on each elevator half be enough?
How about joining the elevator with 1/8" music wire. Would there be any flex between the halves?
Thanks in advance!

Check out the HS-5245MG mini digital Hitec. I'm sure that would have superior centering and holding power, plus you could match them perfectly since they're programmable...provided you knew someone with a programmer.

Out of 5 Hitec servos (2-HS-225BB, 1 HS-615MG and 2 HS-5925MG) and I have gotten 3 would not center (Not even close) out of the box and all of the MG's got super sloppy gear lash in a very short time. I know a lot of people have had good experiences with Hitec but for me this is just too much to chalk up to random problems...I will never buy Hitec again.

I all honesty this plane doesn't need dual elevator servos. I used 2 Futaba 3004's then realized it was really just added weight. I'd just use one good coreless servo like the Futaba 9202 and use the rods or join the two halves and run pull pull back to them.

If the flying surfaces were stock I would certainly go the rod joiner route and run one servo. However I am concerned that since the elevator are now 2x the stock size that there might be some twisting of the joiner rod under flight loads and unequal movement of the elevator halves.
Let me know if im worrying too much about this. If a 1/8" joiner wire wont flex with 3D size elevators let me know and I will go that route. It would be lighter and easier to set up.

It's really hard to say because I built mine stock. The wing loading on this plane is really high so it's not going to 3D very well anyway. Mine was 8lbs 5oz with a OS91FS. If you can get it to come in at 7.5 lbs it'll be a much better plane.
