full size 3D? any photos?
I am wondering how capable of low 3D flying a full size cap or edge or any other acrobatic plane is capable of doing.
Or is that just for us hobbiests?
I fly funfly profiles but just took a quick look in this form which led me to ask the question
If you have a photo of one please post it.
will a full size plane hover? if so how well will it pull out?
Or is that just for us hobbiests?

Peter Besenyei
There's a link of Peter Besenyei SUPERB 3D Flying video on my site. He was famous for flying under some bridge in Hungary, and also Aerobatics WC. Awesome stuff...

It actually was in my forums(somewhat less used....) Note this posted sometime ago, so I can't gurantee its still there...:
Our friend, Guy Revel, posted an excellent video link in the AA Egroups. It features Peter Bensenyi, the famous Hungarian aerobatic pilot and Freestyle WC. It shows him performing a lot of his famous aerobatic sequences, like flying under a bridge.
There's a 24min video(around 140M) and a shorter one around 4mb I think.

Under the bridge
The pilot that did the inverted bridge passes was Jurgis Kairys.

Full size 3D: a definite possibility
A guy by the name of Wayne Hanley was famous for his airshows in his one-off airplane called the Raven. After a while, he built a new airplane. I think it was a heavily (very heavily) modified Giles 202 called the Turbo Raven. The plane was entirely composite. The front seat was removed to make room for an enormous turboprop engine. The engine produced in excess of 600hp. The landing gear was lengthened to make room for an enormous variable pitch 3-blade prop. The plane would overspeed if kept at full throttle in level flight. The plane was definitely capable of 3D performance.
Unfortunately, he was at an airshow at attempting to take off, loop, and land in under a minute. He could make this happen so fast because the propellor could go into reverse pitch and provide airbrake on the downline. He had done this countless times before. On the downline to the landing, he reversed the propellor, but it locked there and he could not straighten it out in time. The plane could not move forward and produce lift. He gave full up elevator, and pancaked the plane on the runway. The plane was destroyed and Wayne seriously injured. After his recovery, the remains of the plane are in a hangar somewhere. Wayne no longer flys.
But now, you have to wonder: Would full scale 3D even be possible if we hadn't done it first?

The turbo raven was also one of the only full size 3D planes to have a power to weight ratio in excess of 1:1, and was pretty unlimited in vertical. I think that it had a turbine powered too.

Full size 3D
There was an airplane called Ratsrepus, thats Superstar backwards, that had greater than thrust than weight. Leo Loudenschleager was working with Zivko on a airshow airplane with better thrust than weight when he died from a motorcycle crash. Kirby Chamblis does a pitch up to a momentary hover from a touch and go with the Edge 540T, and you should watch Sean Tucker fly sometime. I've also seen a Russian pilot do a rolling loop and exit into a high alpha roll. It's out there you just have to find it. Go to an airshow like Sun'n'Fun in Florida this April, or Airventure in Oshkosh in July. TDB

For some full size 3D pics, go to the website: musclebiplane.org,
when it comes up, click on the center box. The site is kinda slow, so be patient. Go to the featured biplanes page, then find the BULLDOG biplane site. Then go into his gallery and films sections.
It seems like a lot of work, but after you play around in the Muscle Biplane site for a while you will find a lot of interesting and useful stuff. Enjoy,

Do a search on FAI aerobatics, and go to the official FAI full size aerobatics website. More pics and vids there to make you salivate and drool. Also cap aviations website has some vids from the factory pilots wringing them out. The Kairy's inverted pass with the Suk is awesome, really high on the pucker factor. He has alot of other vids on his site (dont have these urls on my home pc), and pics of him doing knifeedge passes almost dragging a wingtip in the grass. There is also a vid of a cobra maneuver at the Motegi ring in Japan. He goes rippin down the front stretch of the racetrack at the World Championships, underneath the camera, and pulls straight up, and brings it to a halt(just like the popups the 3d guys do).I will have to post some pics tomorrow when I get to work, including a pic of a guy "waterskiing" with a pitts, skimming the mains on water.

Stevezero,
Do you know of more pics of the Red Bull plane, the one doing that low inverted pass? I was building an Extra-300 and planned to do a Red Bull scheme without even knowing an aerobatic plane had it already.
