I had been looking forward to reading about the maiden flight, but thats not the outcome that I was hoping for,you either I'm sure.I'm sorry it didnt go better than it did.hopefully it's fixed up soon and ready to go again. If it is any consolation we had three Cubs go down today at my clubs flying field, none of which were mine but still a bad day none the less.

Jeff, OOPS! LOL Well it looked great on the field! Sorry about the deadstick. Sounds like a quick fix though.
I've ordered the 25% Yak from East RC. It comes with carbor fiber gear and wing tube as well as free shipping. I didn't like the fact that TBM was advertising their plane for 229 and the price on their website was a hundred or so dollars more. I know they raised it back in April but continued to advertise even into this months (June) edition of Model Aviation. I didn't even bother to call them on it, just went somewhere else. Its a shame because that is a really good looking bird!! I'm just stubborn I guess. I'll keep checking back here for more flight reports. I've enjoyed following your thread.

Plowboy,
let me know how the East RC plane goes. Do you have a link for it? I have fixed the gear already and will build a new fire wall soon. The one that was on the plane was light and I think by it failing easily it actually saved other componants of the plane.

Thanks,
I cut a new fire wall and it's glueing up as I write this. The gear and throttle servo are both back in and the only thing left is to mount the engine and to get a new cowl. I want to have the plane back in the air by the end of the month. glad your maiden went well. How much did your plane weigh?

I'm real glad your maiden went well.I have just got started assembly and will be using an os max 160.I usually start assembly by adding glue to the firewall, motor mount, landing gear mount and other stress taking areas on most of my arfs but this one looks pretty good to start with.has anyone else felt the need to reinforce these areas or go just go with it as it is?also I'm curious to know how it performs with an os 160 as opposed to running a saito 180 or a gas engine.any info would be helpful. thanks .Lance F.

Jeff, sounds like you are well on your way to recovery. I'm still waiting for my YAK to get here. Should arrive tomorrow. Did you figure out what happened yet? Sounds to me like classic low end richness!![&:]
Here is a link to the YAK I went with. I'm sure you've seen it before as other companies sell it, just without the carbon fiber upgrades.

I'll let you know my impressions when it gets here. So whats up with the EF YAK? Is she flying yet?

I live near EastRc and did contact them about their 25%Yak.They said they could'nt really tell me who the manufacturer was but they thought is was a CMP (China Model Productions) built plane from the same factory that builds alot of different manufacturers planes.I saw on NitroModels.com web site a 25% CMP Yak and except for the carbon fiber looked to be the same plane.I am curious to hear what you think about it once you have had a chance to check it out.

Plowboy,
It was nothing to do with the engine just the lack of a glow plug that caused the flame out. Evidently it came loose during my final construction and I failed to retighten it after tuning the engine and it made it ok though the first flight and vacated during the second. It is the first time that has ever happened to me but it is the only thing I can think that caused it as I was taking the post mortum look at the engine and found the glow plug missing. The EF yak is still in the box. It will probably be a winter project. I have both that and a Ultra RC Katana to put together over the winter.
I am interested in what you think of the EastRC yak. Let us know.

Well went flying again today 6/11/08 i busted the 20/10 jfx on a landing, came in a little hot landed in the grass instead of the grass.. So i pulled the tail wheel off and that made the rudder flip up and wacked the prop just on the edge of the runway(paved) .......So it busted the prop, i put a apc 20/10w on it today at idle its 1400 rpms and full power its at 6100 rpms...... I've got a xoar 20/10 for it to try next i'll post what it is along with the weight next time i go flying!

maineflyer, in between the time that I ordered my plane and when it got here, EastRC changed their website to reflect that the CF upgrades were no longer part of the deal. I called them and was told that they just found out that their last shipment didn't include the CF upgrades. To their credit they offered to send a return tag so I could send the plane back. I waited until the plane came so I could take a look at it. It looks fine so I called them back and they agreed to send me a 3000mah battery and I'll keep the plane. I got rid of my H9 EDGE / Saito 1.80 and ordered an OS 1.60FX for this plane. It should fly the skin off of it! The ARF weighs just under 6 LBS. How heavy was the Magic Hand ARF?
Sounds like you have your winter planned. I'll keep you posted on this project.
ifuller, the plane looks really lightly built at first look. a little scary in fact. we'll see if it holds together!! I haven't started work on it yet so I don't know much other than that it is a no frills arf.

Plowboy,
I beleive I weighed everthing at the beginning of the thread. My all up weight was listed a few posts back at near 11' 5 oz all up. I tried a CF rod from another plane (Maxair Velox) and it fixs perfect but is about 3" too long so I will not be able to use it unless the Velox bites it. It would save atleast 5 oz.

321 * .25 = 80.25 so it would have to be slightly over 2m to be true 1/4 scale, or IMAA legal
as the 25 percent would seem to indicate.Edit: The length is closer, it would have to be 68" (rounded down)

Just got the invoice for my new cowl. Happy fathers day from the Mrs.
I should be back in the air by next weekend. I am really looking forward to wringing this one out. Even have the matching shirt.

I talked to the guys at TBM and they have more coming. they mentioned that the 2nd version will have a little longer nose for easier balance and CF Gear and wing tube. I should have my cowl by Wed. and be back in the air this next weekend.
