I don't know...

You chose working over flying today. I guess I know where your priorities are.

...Although if I had a job, I would've had to go, too, I guess.

I'm still working on the conversion. But I'll get it to you as soon as I can figure it out. I didn't get to go flying, or work on finishing up my UCD today. I've been trying to get this plan in a format that is easy to use. The whole plan is roughly 51" x 55", so it definitely will have to be split in 2 to fit on most printers that people would have available.

Oh well...Back to work!

So....If you like small planes then how come you havnt said any thing about the taco? I am building the fat free taco right now. I have a copy of the taco 2. It only cost $5 to get the print done at kinko's. You should take a look.

I just had my brother run (2) copies of the Taco 2 plan today for me at work! I plan on putting one together as soon as I finish up my UCD...and maybe a plane I started building last year. But hopefully not to far off.

Did you end up buying the Fat Free kit from Paul, or did you talk him into giving you the plan for it? I would love to be building the Fat Free...but the Taco 2 was the only one I could get the plans for.

I'm having more trouble than I thought converting that pdf to dxf. As a matter of fact, I had to uninstall the program that I was trying to use because it crashed my computer 3 times while trying to use it! Actually twice while using it, and once while writing this reply (the first time). I'm going to look around a little more for a different converter. But I'm not going to spend much more time with it or I'll never finish my UCD! The pdf file of the full plan says that printing is allowed (it's not turned off by the security feature). But the plan is roughly 52" x 56" in size, and I don't know of many printers that can take that size of paper.

Oh well...since you are obviously going to have your Taco done way before I can even start mine. Let me know how the build & flying goes.

...Or better yet SHOW my how the flying goes!

The forecast doesn't look good for this weekend either...maybe I should have went out today instead of trying to get this file converted?

if i cant get it in the air this week end it will be ready for next weekennd for sure. So count on that.

I got the kit. So now i have both set of plan's. I like the fat free but it would be easyer to build the taco from scratch than try to make the fatfree.

Sorry to hear about the converter. I just downn loaded the pdf file for the electric fan fold plane and it does not look that bad to tape them together. I wouldnt worry about putting it in the cad unless your gonnna get it laser cut.

Heres a pic of the fat free

That Fat Free does look quite a bit different than the regular Taco...the Fuse anyway.

Will it's maiden flight be in Romeo? If so, let me know when you plan on being there, and I'll try to make it out. I'd REALLY like to see what one of those things can do in person, before trying to build one. How long did it take you to frame it up? Although, you got the kit...I have to make a kit!

I've spent so much time on the conversion that it would be hard to stop now...I can't let it defeat me!

Default Creek and Crazy Max update

Well, after epoxying the firewall on twice, I put a .15 on my Crazy Max and flew it for the first time yesterday. The plane flys GREAT! The .15 is PLENTY of power to yank it vertical from a hover. The plane only gained 4oz and cuts the wind and tracks better than the stock electric.

Still not a great 3D plane, it never was, but lots of fun.

I just got back from Creek Hobbies. The .15 3D is definately on the way but not for 6 weeks

Default How to get them

I PM'ed Jon, but he has not responded yet. Does anyone know of any other way we might be able to get some Komacro kits? Maybe we could team up and order a bunch from China, sent to someone's house, then they ship them out to each individual person. It might be reasonable shipping that way. Just a thought, but it would have to be a trustworthy person. Any better ideas, i don't want to give up on this awesome plane so easily

If you have trouble getting together enough people to make a viable order for Japan let me know I have made my own version of the Komacro plan and have the file that you could pass to a kit cutter in the US to have laser'd or routed parts made. Failing that I may have some kits available in a couple of months, but I am in the UK so yet again shipping would be an issue. Good luck

Default Komacro

WS1,089mm
L 1,012mm
Area 32.3dm
Weight 1,750g

I guess it is a short kit, just the parts that are shown on the plans. Haven't seen the kit in person but I know where the place is to buy them. I do not read japanese. I have a review from RC Airworld that shows a OS 15cva engine, JR 800 (?) receiver, 350mAh battery, OK Models S1809(x5) servos, 80cc fuel tank, running a 9x4 APC prop. It is not an ARF. I have a 7 hour layover in Tokyo on the 7th and will see what I can do. No promises though.

Default Komacro 15...the best available?

Is it safe to say that the Komacro 15 is the best 15 sized 3D plane commercially available? I see there are more planes on the Japanese site, but of course i have no idea what engine size they even take. I am just judging by the videos we've seen. thanks

I still haven't heard from anybody that has either built, or flown a Komacro 15. The only thing we know about them is from the videos, and the information you can make out from the Japanese web site. Other than that, we are still waiting for the one brave soul to be the first.

...Who is willing to take on the challenge?

I have a very old OS .15FP, I think it's 70's vintage. Runs pretty strong. It turns a MA 8x4 12,900.

After I ring out the Crazy Max I might try building a .15 size pqhor until the creek planes come in.

Done it...

Put an os 15La on a Jamarra/Wattage Extra 330L (Basically the same as the Cap).
Very fast, stable and fun. However the landings are better with power as it comes out nose heavy.

Its definetly worth converting as it puts the electric version to shame.

Geoharry: Can you hover your Craze Max "on the deck", and pull out fine?

How did the balance come out with the OS 15? Could it possibly handle a slghtly heavier motor? (perhaps 2 oz heavier, 8.6 oz with muffler)

By the way, if you motor says "FP" cast into it (and you're not assuming that's what it is), then it's a late 80's to perhaps early 90's motor. I have an FP 15 also, and it runs great! But last time I flew it was in a 2 1/2 lb plane, flew great, but not near enough to hover.

What's the RTF wieght of the Crazy Max?

Ps... I was getting much more thrust, about 8 oz more, with a 9x4
Master Airscrew, vs. the 8x4, on the FP15. (I measured it on a scale) It would turn it around 11,000 or so, and ran just fine with it.

Neil - What mods did you make to the Extra for IC ? Presume you added a firewall. Looks really good. Cheapest price I found for it was £85 which seemed steep to me considering I could buy an Irvine Wildcard for less.

Hillcott Electronics do the Jamarra version (which is the same but without the elctric motor) for £70. I got it at Sandown last year for £65.

I'll post mods later.

The picture posted is actually with an AP 0.9 I.C. I found this wasn't quite enough power so changed it for an OS 15 LA with dust bin silencer.

I doubled the firewall with ply and also took the formers out of the top of the fuz where the battery was meant to go. Then re enforced this piece with fiber glass. This gave me more room for a fuel tank.
I cut the wooden engine mount off and replaced it with a plastic one.
Finally fitted a throttle servo to one side.

Oh and put larger foam wheels on.

Takes off and lands from grass and flys for about 12 mins. It was my first conversion and was extremely easy.

I also have a wattage extra 330L with the Cobalt motor which is pants in comparison.

I only flew the Max once, the power was there, actually more than enough. It was not the easiest plane to hover. I need to move the CG back and try again. The Crazy Max is not a very good 3D plane but still fun to fly until I can find something better.

I know the motor is old, I bought it used in 81 but I don't know if it's an FP but OS is stamped in the case.

The RTF weight is 19oz.

I've been waiting for Flair to bring this little toy out for a while. About another week and they'll be in the LHS for £90. .25 size I know but doesn't appear to be much around for a 15.

I seen those advertised quite awhile ago. If you end up getting one, could you please let me know about the quality of the kit, and how it fly's? I was thinking of getting one myself!

Thanks,

Mark
