Great Planes Reactor 160?
Hey guys,
Has anybody noticed the new ad in MAN [Oct 2008] for the OS FS200P engine?
In the background is a model of the Reactor in what would appear to be a new color scheme and evidently made to fly the new large OS 4 stroke engine.
It looks very interesting to say the least. Just wondering if I,ve missed some info regarding this yet to be released model.

Here's a "tip" for you Larry. Poor some Zap in a small cup, take a old pen, put some on the tip of the pen and roll it around the covering edges. I have never had a pblm with loose covering.

Well I looked at the ad again. It would appear that its got very large surfaces especially on the ailerons.
If a wood airframe 2m Pattern plane is what you want Zippi look no further than Extreme Flight. They have just announced a larger 2m Vanquish to be released this fall that will be a pattern plane not a
hybrid 3D/Pattern model. Thats going to be a nice one for sure, knowing what kind of quality EF produces.
I,ll keep fishing for more info on the large Reactor though as it will be a nice alternative to the H9 Funtana for a cheap 3D model I,m sure.

Thanks for the info. Larger Ailerons are not what I'm looking for but you never know. The new 2m Vanquish sounds pretty good. I just pre-ordered the new Aquila 2m F3A Pattern plane from Northeast Aerodynamics and it should be in by early September.

I'm really interested in this reactor to. When i saw this picture i said crap now i need to saving money to get this one to the best thing is hope fully it won't be out for a few months. Great planes tricked me when that new 27% percent edge came out especially after i have not flown the 27% extra yet but it is ready to fly now. I have the biplane reactor and the 2 different mono wing versions i really like all three of them. Hopefully great planes makes a 1.60 size reactor bipe to.

it looks like a scaled up version of the 46-70 size model. I saw a full page spec sheet at my LHS two weeks ago! First time he knew something before me as I surf the web a lot!

84.5"WS, 85"L, 1556sq.in, 16lb w/DA50.
Not just scaled up from the little one, but modified and optimized for the new size. Fully precision and 3D capable.
It will blow your socks off...

Were are you getting your info from?
Sevan16, was it official Great Planes release information in the dealers book?
RCmob, were did you get your info? The ad is directly related to the OS FS200-P engine, so a DA50 is a much larger target airframe.
I,m also suprised you quoted a DA engine as GP would surely describe the airframe to be used with a Fuji engine.
I,ve sold my Funtana X100 in anticipation of getting this plane, so I,m anxious to see more info.

A quick search shows that "RCmob" seems to be part of the GP R&D team, so I can only assume that the posted specs are real! I absolutely *love* my "little" Reactor, and I can only imagine how nice this bigger one will be. As previous posters have mentioned, I hope that they fix the covering issues (Monokote, please!), and that the gear has been "updated" (nose-overs with a YS .63 are not fun, but a little APC prop costs nothing compared to a carbon-fiber 22x8!).

A DA-50 in a GP airplane??? Blasphamy!!!!
It will be interesting to see what gas motor GP will be recommending for this airplane as they have long recommended the Fuji line of motors for there g/s aerobatic airplanes (Performance Series).

Yes, of course GP recommends the Fuji engines, but even the manual for the first "Performance Series" plane (the Ultimate) mentioned the use of a DA-50! I don't think that they are oblivious to what some modelers are using.

I hope it doesn't turn out to be like the Twist 150 as far as making a bigger version of a nice plane and not selling a whole lot of them. The 1.60 - 50cc is just a little to big for what I was looking for. I think the 120 - 160 would have been a better size to come out with IMO.

When GP came out with there performance series planes many had said......" why didn't they make them a full 50cc plane?"
I really hope they come out with a 50cc Reactor Bipe....... That would be fantastic.......
If this plane hase room for a full lenth tunnel.......LOOK OUT!>....
Looks somewhat simular to the Bling 3D........
I hope that this turnes out better than Goldbergs 3d/pattern plane...
The cowl really gets hacked up the the DA.... No problems with cooling though!
A Rev 50 would look much better.....
A ZDZ40F3A with a CF tuned pipe would be a really nice, light powerfull, setup..... with minimal cowl hacking.....

Have some faith fellas......this airplane indeed was designed around the DA-50.
It is not the first...or last time we will crossell a DA when it is appropriate.
Kinda like the 100cc Cap...The 150cc Extra....and what ever else we might be working on.
This airplane is sooooo easy to 3D...I know people will like it.

This looks great, I'm a big fan of the Reactor series. I had a Reactor with OS 55 AX, my favourite plane, which I only sold because I got out of glow. I just bought another for electric. I'm now assembling a Reactor bipe, which I've heard great things about.
Unfortunately 50cc is a little big for my apartment, but I may have to make an exception. Do the tail surfaces detach, that would help a lot.
I would vote for a .90 to .120 size as the next Reactor.

I,m thinking that GP were smart in going with this size.
I downloaded the manual, it looks well designed for sure.
H9 already has the Showtime 90 in the 90-120 size airframe so this one is positioned directly above it.
A true 2m plane would be too close so they went one size larger.
Ya gotta remember that these companies are in the business to sell planes and as many as possible, competing directly with one another is never going to be the best way of achieving that goal.
The Showtime 90 is good if your limited with space, another option in the Extreme 3D category in the 70-80" size planes is the EF 74" Yak, I,ve got one and its very good.
Good for the GP guys, especially considering the recent Edge 540 with its disappointing one piece, small chord wing.
They must have different design teams going, this group got it right, the other group is out of touch IMO.
