Anyone still using the Stock U/C?

My freestyle pins itself to the ground when throttling for take off, really annoying. The U/C needs to be much taller I reckon, so the wing can generate lift. Anyone else found this?

Mine's fineish.

The people who said theirs have bucked obviously can't land, because mine hasnt bent once after a long time, and im not sayin mine's had constant perfect landings!

They do pin themselves to the floor, and i find this annoying because a smooth climb out isn't achievable. You can overcome it a little by using a flapperon mix (ele up ail down)... while it generates lift it doesnt help the smooth climbout.

My insticnt was that it was drag from the spats, but I suppose you could be in the right thinking! Flying from tarmac would unveil the truth!

Check out the landing gear on the review here at RCU. Its the gear for the .40 sized Modeltech Sukhoi. Looks good on this bird (easily allows for 14" prop)

Part #42019 ($10.00). In stock at hobbypeople.net

Cheers for the replies

Nate: I didn't use the spats as our landing patch is quite rough, but I'll give the ele/flap mix ago next time I'm out with the Freestyle.

I'll probably end up getting new landing gear though as most of the damage is done on take off (our patch is really that bad), specially with the way the model gets pinned to the ground

The stock gear is fine if you add a threaded rod between the legs to stop them from spreading. Also, add some epoxy inside, around the wood the gear bolts to (I do it to all ARFs)

The plane does "stick" to the ground because of its low angle of attack. Put flaps on a switch.

Flick the flaps on for a perfect takeoff and flick them off after a beautiful climb-out. Simple solution.

Nice flying plane.

Freestyle w/ys 63 and Sukhoi 40 landing gear.....take off <10ft (don't need no stinkin flaps....although I do have them...

I fellow club member says he will give me $10 if I would do a normal takeoff.....he still has his money after 3 months....just looks so cool doing the short takeoffs....
