Land from a flat spin?

Yes. My Pluma. Not intentional, but it did happen at a SLAM event this summer. I had a 9 amp ESC on a motor that peaked at 10.3 and browned out in a vert maneuver. I had programmed the ESC's failsafe to give full left rudder (set up for a small indoor gym). Noob mistake. I only had aileron and elevator control when I browned out and that Pluma did a flat spin from about 100' to terra firma on its gear! Lots o people to view the "walk", MAAC Prez was there too! Swapped the ESC out and flew it again, just won't try it again, especially with a bigger bird!

well I flat spun in once with a small biplane that was not intended for any kind of 3d, bent the gear and poked some holes in the lower wing, so if that plane could come in that damage free, who knows whats possible, I have done it on the simulator, but lots of things on the simulator have some MAGIC worked in !

Only seen 2 or 3 that did it without any damage (they were not trying to), and that was on grass.
What I really want to do is to go from a falling flat spin, all the way down on the deck, to a rising flat spin. Have not seen anyone pull that one off yet.

I recently saw a video on YouTube or somewhere of a guy that did an inverted flat spin to the ground with a gasser. The touchdown was not real hard but probably broke the vert fin but the pilot didn't look concerned and everybody applauded. I'll try to find it again and link it.

I've seen it happen on a 50cc YAK and it drove the landing gear up through the fuse and cracked most of the bottom stringers from about half way back all the way to the front. It also bent the wing tube, the plane was repairable but barely. The pilot was trying to pull out of the spin very low for effect and the engine burped and died when he hit the throttle. It was about 50 to 60 ft up when the engine died and it spun to the ground with a big thud.

Thanks for the response! I've got a Sig Somethin Extra that floats pretty good when I can keep it in a flat spin, but I haven't practiced enough to hold it for more than a few revolutions. I probably won't ever get brave enough to try riding a spin all the way to the ground with it, but I'd like to see it done!

Here's one. You can find a few more searching around YouTube. Haven't been able to find the gasser landing.

inertia is the big factor, a 2 pounder or less will likely walk away.while a 20 pounder will likely stress and break parts that are not visible and could be a danger to fly next time.
