Default Suggestions for a good 3d plane

Im looking to expand the fleet and already have a few CAPS and an Extra. I am told most of them dont have enough control surface to do any serious 3d moves. I can do IMAC style stuff but that gets boring after a bit. I am looking for suggestions for a good solid 3d plane. I am well aware of planes like UCANdo and all those types but I dont like the looks of them, id prefer something more realistic looking like CAPS,EDGES and Extra's etc.

here are my requirments:

Economical
Good looking like a CAP, Edge, Extra etc

Funtana wih a saito 72?

any input is appreciated
if you got a plane for sale contact me, lol

I would recommend that you get a GP PW Extra with a Taurus 52 engine.

How large do you want to go?

Take a look at the CA Extra's... http://www.planesplus.com

wreckman, those are some nice birds but I am not into kits for reasons of time constraints. Even the ARC are a pain in the butt for me

Hate me all you want but the ARF is the best thing since swiss cheese

I sure do miss my DP Extra... Here is the last shot taken before that final flight. As you can see I hadn't even painted the cowl yet...

WreckRman2
i know what you mean i have 2 of his planes, his service may suck but his build is bad 2 the bone....

i'm on the fence hard to kit bash a ultimate ARC with a 2.4 gas deal with 1200SQ inches of flying wings the plane can handle that. let me see my AW edge 29% 1200+ inches DP EXtra 1200+ sq. in. move and shift some things around and it heaven i may remold the cowl so that the motor will not show and then i will put that H-9 scheme on there a mini 46%

stay turn as that is a stong possible unload the ultimate very cheap and move on you know!

guys these are all awesome planes and I appreciate your links but they are all out of my price range

Im thinking something in the $200 range thats good for 3D, Saito 90 or so for power so I can use exisiting materials I have to get going

I assure you one of these days i will get that nice 33%

hey krayzc. Where did you get the stripes on your stabs/elevators. I remember a person here on RCU a while back that sold those stripes for the tail section. Do you know if he still has those for sale? Or do you know where i can get the same stipes? I want to now get some for my DP330L. It totally looks good on your plane.

i did get them from a flyer here he has to cut those for 4 planes at one time. I lost my old hard drive with his info on that deal. It seems as thougth he is located in Canada. Those strips make it look like flyers do with the matching scheme on the tail as well as the wiings. Maybe start a new topic on the ARF section asking about those strips as i know about 8-10 of us bought them i think i paid about 20.00 for them plus 4 names to put on my planes so the strips must be 10-15 bucks. last but not least go to:

http://www.angelfire.com/oh2/kirbysgraphics/index.html

i can only attest to what rconline is saying the hanger 9 funtana 70-72 4stroke or about 160.00 is a sweet 3d animal likes it bigger brother/sister

i have the u can do 60 sized but its power by gas:
so far it can't fold a candle to the funtana but it still a fun 3d waterfalls/t-rolls

the futana is doing it all right out the box no mixing needed....

24% CA Extra is $189 but it's a kit. It'll need an OS160 or similar for 3D though...

Default GSP Katana

Get a Giant Scales Planes/ Chief Aircraft Katana, it meets all your criteria even the price is not far off. The airframe is a 72" WS and weighs only 5 pounds. For 3D put a two stroke glow engine and probably mount the servos near the CG not the tail (avoid adding lead in the nose). Best of all it looks cool similar to an extra or edge but has that unique shaped wing (which also helps slow speed characteristcs) and most important again looks cool. Click on my photo gallery button below to see pics of mine w/ Saito 180 it now has an RCS 180 gasser (too heavy for your application).

Bike466 I just saw one the other day at my LHS. A guy who works there bought it. Its HUGE! The covering is kinda cheesy but its a nice looking plane. He has a OS160 on it with decent servos. He actually offered to get me one for a pretty good price...hmm..

Yea I agree, the covering sucks. The plane is very well built, the covering is expertly applied (no wrinkles very tight) but the quality of the covering is so cheap. The red and blue color is not that bad but the white is very transparent. If you look at mine the first thing I did was tear it all off and replace it with monokote and ultracote.
