Anyone have any good tips on the H9 us 40? I am thinking about putting the OS 70 surpass 2 on it. What is everyone here using for power? I am going with the 9C to control it.

with a .70 Surpass on it (the older model). This is the perfect engine for this plane. Great fun. Just need to watch out for the needle value when doing an inverted landing (on purpose!). Ask me how I know......
Great plane, great fun. Now if they would just redesign the 1.20 US like the .40 and the new .60............

are built much lighter (and not due to the size difference).......
The control surfaces are built up instead of solid material with holes, the fuses are built lighter, etc......
To me they are a whole different plane as far as contruction goes. Same concept; plane wise. I bet they could make the 1.20 size plane weight a pound less.......

Pug,
What radio are you using? Do you have it set up for crow? From what I read on the plane so far, it says it will do kick *** harrier style landings. I am looking forward to playing with it.

The 8U right now. I have a 9C that I plan on moving it over to.....
The crow is a blast. I tend to take off, with crow on, hammerhead into a crow landing, take off, and repeat.....just back and forth.....a real blast......
Crow loops with touch and go's are a blast too.....of course it helps to do these when no one else is flying......
This plane is so stable I tend to land it inverted just to hear people cheer......it is fun. I was flying it inverted the other day trying to drag the tail .....I also like to drag the tail wheel the lenght of the runway......
Like I told someone at my field. The AMA should give out this plane out with membership payment, because everyone should have one in thier hanger.....

tips on the US 40,
have someone help you join the wing, I almost made mine an inch too wide when the epoxy started to cure after 10 minutes instead of 30, I think I mixed it to hot! The epoxy was about a year old but shouldn't matter......... I would maybe use a different tail wheel mount, I had to hawg out the slot in the fuse where you are supposed to mount it and fitting it takes a little time. maybe buy one that mounts on the bottom of the airplane, I will next time. I also installed some triangle stock at the top and bottom of the firewall on the inside of the fuse just to be safe there, and also installed a very small triangle of balsa on the triling edge of the landing gear block on the inside of the fuse, these things don't add much weight. I'll also be using the supplied push rods, they don't bind as hard as I thought they would. This is only my second airplane, I built a SIG Seniorita last year. I will be running a YS 45 w/tuned pipe on this one!!
It goes together pretty easy, going to give mine a maiden flight this weekend. Cant wait to do some harrier landings.... Oh yeah, the new 9C is awsome, easy to set up for this airplane.

I have one too. I bought it to play with and to use as a trainer for my kids. I put a Saito 72 on it and it has plenty of power. Fun toy and very stable. The tail wheel does suck and I put a DuBro on it bent the wire back and attatched it to the rudder with a 2" piece of fuel tube. Use some good fast servos on the Elevator and Rudder.

I picked mine up from the hobby warehouse in Minneapolis for 119.99, their number is 612 861 5587, they will ship one to you...........
Oh yeah, my US 40 had its first flight yesterday, with the YS 45 with tuned pipe, it balanced a little nose heavy, but did not need a correction with any weight, I just put the battery in front of the servo tray and the receiver in front of that. With the YS 45 it will go straight up and out of site "literally" if you let it. flaps worked well, cant wait to get some stick time on this one!

can anybody get this plane to do a little 3d. I know it isn't designed for it.
I have heard that Jason shulman was torgue rolling one day. But Jason is a great pilot.
I can hover a top cap and wasp, but is this plane hoverable w/ my type of skills. I am not great at hovering I can hover the wasp and top cap but I can't hover it in one place. It goes where the wind wants the plane to go.

If you are waiting for a 9c because of back order, okay......but if you are waiting for one due to lack of funds.....look for a used 8U computer radio from Futaba. Everyone and their brother are selling this gem off cheap to fund their 9c purchase. I've seen them for as little as $75 with module. You can not beat this radio.
Take a look around for one.

Pug, I looked into getting the super 8, but decided to get the 9c for future projects, even with some of the deals I found on the 8. I'll just have to be patient is all, less than a month for funds for 9c.(hopefully)

It is not a 3D plane per se'..... It is a toy flyer. It is very stable and yet you can get it into some precarious situations with the crow. To get it to do much you have to use the crow.

could make a paper airplane hover......this plane however is not a 3D plane. It will hover a bit, and do harriers, elevators.....waterfalls.....but they ain't pretty.....
If you want a cheap, easy plane to build that IS 3D.....look at the Doghouse Extreme.

I've been playing with my US 60/Saito 100 combo. Torque rolls are tough but possible. BUT, what I cant get it to do it flat spin. With the CG at 4.25 back (manual reccommends 4 1/8th) I try the usual: Straight up at full throttle, fulll right aileron, full right rudder. Once its spinning pretty good then reverse the ailerons and feed in down elevator for and upright spin. Thats supposed to be the drill, but the best I can get is and ugly downward spiral. No flat spin!
Anyone been able to coax a flat spin out of their US?
Thanks
Jim

fenderjw,
I am now assembling my US 60. I went with the vendor's recommendation and will mount a Saito FA-100. This engine calls for an APC 14x8. My first question is will this prop selection cause me some concern with ground clearance. I ask this question because a 16" prop on the US 120 was optimum with the normal landing gear -- I had to get the TnT gear to mount the 18x10 prop that my OS FX 1.60 prefers.
How did you break in the Saito FA-100? Fuel, prop, approach???

I have a 13x6 on my 40, and it looks as if you dont nose over too much it will be ok, sitting level I have about 1" ground clearance. I imagine you have more clearance on your 60 size than me, and your prop is only 1/2 inch bigger per side so you should be ok.

!4x8 was no problem. Ground clearance was fine. I'm running a 15x6 now also with no problem. Break in with th 100 was a breeze. Per instructions ran it very rich first tank full (4.5 turns out or so) then gradually leaned it out over the next 7 tanks full. Still running slightly rich and I'm on tank number 20. This engine is the easiest starting an smoothest running, I've ever owned. Fuel is Wildcat 20/20 and since the manual didnt specify a break in prop, I used the reccommended 14x8. Hope this helps.
