Ok so I have this Reactor bipe with Saito 100 power. The issues I'm having are a very slow snap from upright, and I just cannot get this thing to kniffedge spin. The snapping problem is only from upright flight. Inverted or knifeedge snaps are great! I just don't understand what's going on. On the drive home from the field today I came up with the theory that my 4 huge ailerons are slowing it down. Does'nt explain why it snaps fine from inverted though. The knifeedge spins are just about impossible to get into. Out of 20 attempts, I got it to KE spin once. It was'nt very tight though. I'm running a nuetral cg FWIW. I do have to say that this airplane is an awesome flier! I just want to correct the flight charecteristics in those 2 areas. Anyone have any insight they'd be willing to share? Ouch.. tough reply.

Maybe put he CG back more. make sure your up throw is maxxed out, doesnt take much down to make most planes go mad. can your servo(s) hold the up power?

Bipes tend to need a bit more entry speed to pull off a clean snap roll and/or lots of power,perhaps do not cut any throttle much and follow thru.

Prop selection can be critical and I would also look at that. Also check the incidence on the wing (s) and tail are correct.

Yes that was a tough reply was'nt it? I would have posted in the beginner forum if I was a beginner. I choose to ignore folks who only have negative answers to give. Thank you nitro wing for your reply! I've considered moving the CG back some, and that may help. My servos are JR 9411 digitals, so I think I'm good there. What prop would you recommend for a Saito 100? I'm running 14x4 currently. I read some people saying they're using 16x4, but IMO the engine does'nt seem to like that large of a prop. I'll give the full power approach a try Sunday. Thanks for your suggestions, and taking the time to post a helpful reply. Trevor

Hi,
I can't help in the Saito department as I fly mine electric.
I guess my question is when you snap from upright or when you snap from inverted, is the rotation in the same direction for both ?
Or do you snap one way form upright and then the other from inverted.
The rotation speed will vary based on the prop rotation.
My planes snap faster going left than they do going right. The motor torque and rotation helps going left but pushes against going right.
As for the knifeedge spin. Can't say for sure, but I think Bipes are harder to knifedge spin than monowings.
I can't help much there either as I can't knifeedge spin with either very well myself [&o]

14x4 on a Saito 100 seems small! I have a Saito 91S in mine and am running a 14x6 with good results. A Saito 100 and a APC 15X6 should be good for this plane.

Bdegan, yes I'm snapping the same direction from inverted and upright. That is to the left I think a larger prop is worth a try. I have a 16x4 and 15x6 on hand, so i'll do some experimenting this weekend. Thanks to all for your help! Have a great day! Trevor

Check incidences for the snapping deal... and your engines line as well....

Control throws and power are the biggest factor in knife edge spins if not going fast....

50-60 deg. of throw in the rudder is good for what you are looking for....
I am guessing you are only getting 35deg of throw on the rudder...

Also,
Follow a good trimming program....and you should be able to deduct what is the issue..
