Thanks for starting another thread. Its a nice gesture.
After 4 days my capiche fuselage and tail is built. One thing i would like to ask fellow capice 50 owners is canopy position. I have noticed that it is possible to move the canopy further forward towards the centre of gravity(by about 2 cms), which might improve knife edge performance. I suppose i can easily find this out by experimenting when i fly it, but does anyone have any comments? I will post pics when i have the time. Thanks Luke |

Agreed, Its nice to see that Capiche isn't a dirty word.
Luke, My fuz is now built (just the sheeting to be done) but I didn't notice the canopy could be moved. I would say (just from thinking about where the lift is acting from) that forward would be best to get the nose higher in knife edge. Andy :) |

put your pilot in the office and where his head is, is where the top of the bubble should be!!
knife edge flight is so good with this plane i dont think 2 cm is going to make a noticable diference. Dave |

what is the final weight on this plane, anyone completed one yet and measured, and what's in it?

These are the pics i was talking about. It probably wont make much difference as Dave says.
here is the canopy position that is shown on the plan: |

mine weighs just over 5 lb with irvine 53
|
Capiche Thread
How much vertical do you get out of it Dave? Will it accelerate out of a prophang?
The engine i am going to beusing is either the irvine 53 or the ASP 52. Thinking about getting a Justengines purple pipe to give abit more power. Luke |

weight ranges from 4lbs to 5.25
electric is obviously quite a bit heavier i am going for 4lbs with a irvine 39 and pipe, and mini hit torques |

Aileron horns
Has anyone managed to find a suitable horn for the ailerons which will put the clevis pin near to, or on the hinge line, or is it a case of making your own if you want to do the job properly? I have tried everthing at my local shop and nothing has enough forward cant. This may have been covered in a previous thread, but I gave up reading it has it was nothing to do with the Capiche! mines 4lbs 15oz with a West 50, 4 591's and a mini servo on throttle duty, 1850Man 4.8v pack
wondering where my weight has come from... wouldn't recommend the 5555ZZZZZZZZZZZ99999ZZZZZZZZ11111ZZZZZZZZZzzzzz's my canopys in the forward posistion, and i can KE fine :) those horns that Graham has i've got on elevator and rudder, work great, ailerons are still the Pete Tindal horns, nice horns but no good on the Capcihe. i saw elsewhere Ultimates Copyiche is just 3lbs 15oz on a SC 53!!!!! Thanks for a general Capcihe thread, i'm sure everyone will tread more carefully this time |

thanks for the new thread EXCAP232 :)
yeah mines 3.75lbs (a couple of ounces more now with some weight I put it the back to move the C of G), with an irvine 53 running an apc 12.25 x 3.75, and it accelerates out of a hover like a exorcet ! Forget a tuned pipe it really doesnt need it Luke, maybe a Weston throttle pipe would be good. Knife edge performance is such that canopy position isnt going to make any perceptable difference. Mine will KE loop at 2/3 power no problems. I love it, and have flown it almost to the exclusion of all my other models. I used balsa and my own construction methods to get it down to its low weight However Graham has shown you can get it light with the CNC pack. Obviously the low weight gives extra performance, but care is needed in blustry conditions as it can get blown about a bit. As and when I trash this one I'll definately do the same again and make another. Chris |

I meant to add that I ended up making my own aileron horns from alumium sheet as I couldnt find any commercial ones that would get the clevis over the hinge line.

what what??
the 591's? I'm a Futaba man, and now i realised why. ok they give 5kg pull for a low price, but if i geared down a 3003 i'd get the same result. the pull comes at the expense of speed. their so slow :( |
Capiche Thread
Well if my CNC Capiche will pull out from a hover well with the irvine 53 then i will be happy. My last plane hovers at 7/8ths throttle, so you can understand that things get a bit awkward at lowlevel when an exit is needed, and i dont want that again with my future planes.
Looking forward to doing some knife Edge anitcs. If it does it better than my flair Cub i will be a happy chap! My dad says he might make the rudder and aileron horns out of magnesium to save weight. |
Capiche Thread
certianly save weight when they catch fire, hope he makes it out of some sort of alloy :p
Malcolms CF rudder horn was perfect. |
Capiche Thread
mine hangs on 50% throttle and accelerates vertical out of the hover faster than my Fiberclassics DA powered extra

I use 6volts so I dont notice :)

Don't bother with the Purple Pipe on the Capiche. Thats not to say they're rubbish cos they're not. I've got one on my 46FX Wot 4 and it transformed it from good to ballistic! On a 3d model tho I'd go for a throttle pipe, as you want more flexibility on the throttle. When my 46FX jumps on the pipe (so to speak) it quite a power increase, but limited to full throttle. Philly That 591 thing made me laugh! I've got one on my Cougar and thankfully it not too bad at 6v. However at 4.8 I have to book an appointment for next week to get the rudder to move  I'm going 3010 all round in my capiche! Andy :) |
