I finally got the net back after being down for 30 days( we moved )
I have just spent the last 15 minutes reading through this thread and and had tears in my eyes from everybodies outrageous homour. That was one funny thread...I am glad to be back online and enjoy being involved with RCU.
P.S. I think I will convert my Futana to control line.that way most of the crashed pieces should be within walking distance.I am using a weak and tired RS 540 electric motor in mine....Most of my performance comes from a 7x4 folding prop.sometimes it will knifeedge when I tow it behind my 5.O Mustang on the freeway, but I am afraid of flutter when I do this, and the cops dont like speeding Funtanas either.:D

carbon fibre landiing gear on your funtana ?

Rubbish, when I was a lad we went down the local iron-mongers for some stout 6 x 6 inch angle iron. never substitue strength for weight and securely fasten your mums 6 inch pram wheels

6 x 6 angle is adequate up .40 size, anything bigger and you need to be lloking at electricity pylon manufacturers ;)

Hey guys I tried some canopy hanging. Yeah you just mount the engine with the shaft facing the rear of the plane, insert the crankshaft through the firewall hole, and inside, use a 3x1000 prop from APC, and open up a 2 inch wide hole up on the canopy, fly the airplane inverted and you got yourself a Harritana!!:D:D:D:D

(Thought I'd revive this hillarious thread)

Neil Murphy, where did you buy the Flux Capacitor ?

I think Tower is running a special this month on Flux Capacitors.

You know, the .10 is really too much power. The Cox .049 is a great engine. This guy has the full scale Cox engine on his full scale warbird and he can comfortably cruise at Mach 1.0 And he only uses 10% Nitro to keep the power under control. So go with the model size Cox for good realiable power for your model.

ANY BODY TRY UP RIGHT CANOPY HOVERING. MITE BE FUN BUT IS THERE ANY WAY FROM HAVING TO HACK UP THE CANOPY. I HAVE A CARBON ONE THATS TO PRETTY TO HACK.

:DOH THIS IS TO MUCH YOU GOTTA LIKE THE GUY THAT STARTED THIS

I didn`t know you can tow with a Mustang, is yours retractable ?, is the 5.0 gas or glow ? [:-]

dunno about you guys, but i found engine power was all together toooo much.
i had the best results for hovering on hot days when i ran around the field naked chanting until a thermal decided it had had enough of that and went up, at that point i threw my Funtana at the thermal and enjoyed a few mins hanging.
on colder days ( nothing to do with no thermals, just they wernt impressed with my naked running on cold days for some reason???? ) i found it easier to stand under the plane and blow at it keeping it in the air and also providing air flow over the wings and surfaces for perfect control, however i had to be careful because a little too much puff and i'd rip the tail off!!!!
be careful, the 25 could unleash more power than 25 H bombs in the wrong hands, hence it's '25' name

RE: Hovering Funtana

I actually had (note the past tense) two Funtanas. The second one had a Cox .010 with which it actually broke the sound barrier. You could hear it going in and out of Mach just before it actually broke the sound barrier. Immediately preceding the separati on of one of the control surfaces I distinctly heard "BBBBBRRRRRRPPPPPP - BANG!"; which is obviously the sound of it breaking the sound barrier.

The first one had a TeeDee 0.49 which approached the speed of light. It got so fast that it became blurry. There was this big flash (just like on Back To The Future) and it just disappeared. All that was left was a smoldering hole in the ground near where I last saw it. Unfortunately I mixed a JR Flux Capacitor with a Futaba Rx, so I can't reverse the procedure and bring it back.∞

RE: Hovering Funtana

I wasn't aware that JR made a Flux Capacitor? they are not listed on their website..

Sprink 01-19-2004 06:13 AM

RE: Hovering Funtana

They discontinued it after people used it with Futaba rx's and ended up leaving big holes in the ground.

I think you all people are not realizing the actual problem.I totally agree with the Monkey with glasses that such a powerful engine will tear the plane into pieces. what I suggest is this to use the New O.S. MAX XXX ABCD efi rubber power motor on this plane. However I THINK still it will be a little heavy for such type of plane but it will save the weight of fuel, fuel tank and silicon tubes.Still u may dip the rubber bands in 120% nitro to turn this thing into a real brute and gain unmatched power.I assure you none other on the field would have a plane like yours.

have fun mAn [8D]:D[8D]

Sweet, nice job on your plane :D I have a pic of mine on www.downonthedeck.com too, under the "Picture of the Month Contest" section for November :D Mine weighs 5lbs 8oz with Saito .72 and hovers at 1/2 throttle. Love this airplane.
Hey Abraxxas, you mean Saito 0.072 don't you??:):)

On the other hand, a friend of mine, thought he had very poor vertical with his 3W 240 in his Funtana, so he decided to put a Top Fuel V8 engine on it, running at 95% Nitro, and putting out something like 6000Hp, spinning a APC 250x25 at 12500 RPM, and was satisfied. I then gave him the advice to try an OS15LA after that...Man he was amazaed with the vertical, the Top Fuel engine was left way behind.....Now the earth has a new satelitte orbiting it, his Funtana. With the Top Fuel engine he went Sub-Orbital, but with the 15LA he actually got it to orbit, it's circling the world at every 1 and a half hour. Man, if you put a 25LA on it, you may need to catch your plane on the Moon... Or who knows you may have it end up in Mars??? It's just too much power that even in vacuum it produces thrust......Awesome engineering piece.

Power to weight ratio and engines in general are overrated. Just take the engine off.

Balance the empty fuselage, and fuselage only, on your chin. Rapidly blow air up so the fuselage "hovers" of your face. Make sure you don't blow to hard, I almost blew apart my 35% Extra doing this.

Rotcivv17 01-20-2004 04:44 PM

RE: Hovering Funtana

You have to be VERY careful about this. I use my eye sight to voer, I just stand below the plane and look up at it and the energy from my eyes keeps it in the air. You gotta be carefull though, becuase if you open your eyes too much it will rocket upwards and u will rip it to bits.

Is this yor friends Funtana? We really have to be more responsible with selecting engines...:D

Don't suppose you could get it back to Mars to see if it could find the Beagle 2 and Mars Rover? I Don't thing their rx packs were fully charged when sent up :D

I guess the 1700 mAh battery really isn't enough for the funtana either!

Nitro Wing, that is so hilarious!

Nice touch having the '15 LA' on the side!

By the way, do you fly from Fry's Corner?´´

Hey Isaih!
Yeah looks like those LA's are plenty strong.Nice to know that I only need to spend around 70$ on an engine,to power my 40 % aircraft that I would like to buy!:D
I fly with Ridge Flyers in Delta, but I drive by Fry's corner fairly often.Sometimes I stop in and see if anybody is going to put on a little show....:)

Kelly invited me out to a combat night there at the Ridge Flyers field. What a blast that was! Now he's distributing turbines.

I got my wings at Fry's Corner when I was about 13.

Now I'm out at the Mission Wings field.

You going to Puyallup?
