On low rates, easier than any trainer. Those high wing trainers with their flat bottom wings can be a beeotch to land and take off in high winds, especially cross winds. Flying in high winds is a challenge too, they float away and take lots of engine to fight the wind. Ever since I went to normal planes it's much easier. The Magic Extra 300L is very very easy to fly. It floats right in. No snaps at very low speeds.

Don't get me wrong I enjoyed the Magic and Magic Extra very well and could blender, inverted climbing flat spin, and wing tip spin all day. It is just that the OMP 540 I have does everything much much better and easier than the Magic Extra. I think one guy said he had to modify it to do a KE loop, my OMP 540 does them in about a 10' radius without modification. I think you would have fun with the Magic Extra it is just that there are much superior offerings available.

Yeah i never flew a flat bottom airfoil plane, my trainer was semi symetriacl airfoil. Could you set a link to that OMP540? Thanks.

You could try the Morris Hobbies ARF profiles as well. They seem to be every bit the equall to the OMP that I have, especially the Morris Sledge.

Aren't these both kits? I was looking at profiles too. Heard a lot of good things about them.

Sorry for not getting back to you, Crash 90, I had trouble logging on. I balance my Magic about 1 1/2 - 2 in. back from the reccommended place.

Look at the morris site again and you will see plenty of ARF profiles. Mainly the Sledge and Top Cap. Profiles are the 4wd buggies of the 3d world. I've wholoped mine a bunch of times while hovering or tail touching and most of the time with the long landing gear i just fly away with no damage at all. They do incredible kinife edge and knife edge loops. If you are interested in slow speed low altitude performance, try putting around about a foot or two off the ground doing figure 8's in a harier, effortless with a profile.

I was looking to get more power out of my 40 FX on my magic . would a tuined pipe give much extra power. I was thinking of carbon fiber were would you get one. will a 40 FX turn a 12*4 prop Iam runing a 11*5. I need a little more power do to my high elevation 5000 ft. would a tuined pipe be lighter thin the stock muffler it would proubly get the CG back more .

This plane has a lot of mod that will make the plane do better 3D manuevers.First move the rudder sevo to the top of the fuse towards the back.Move the elevator servo to the side of the fuse under the hor.stab.Use the space for the servos to place the battery.This plane will not knife edge.Love this plane though.Always bring this one to the field!

yeah i agree that you can modify them really well. The people at my field are programming all this (foreign to me) type of programming and it flies crazy. Yeah im still undecided because everyone is talking about the profiles now?

ok on balencing the magic in inches not metric what is the starting balence point and after the plane has been trimmed and ive gotten used to the controls where should it be, thanks

I just mounted my elevator and rudder servo in the tail its about 3/4 inch back from were thay tell you. I will prbabely move it back more. Do you want me to keep you posted? let me know where you put yours. I just got back from flying to day with my magic , it flies backwards in a good wind. I went to pick it up after i landed and it tried to lift off at a standstill .

Factory spec starting point is 115mm = 4.52 inches. Mine flys like a calm sport plane on low rates with that setting. You could probably train with it. Depending on how and what you want to do later on I have seen 5 to 5 and one half inches as the common CG. Good luck and enjoy :) I also fly a BigStik40 haha.

I have a Magic with a 30 year old Enya 60 mounted on it- you want to talk vertical? 3-D, etc... The only problem is the cheap hardware- I've broken the gear so many times with good if not better than good landings. I run a 12x8 APC and it will hang on it all day long if I was good enough. The nice thing is if I get into trouble, I can pour the coals to her and she'll climb like a home sick angel.

Im glad i found this thread, alot of useful info! I just flew my magic for the 3rd time yesterday and what a blast. Agree with the knife edge problem, just points itself to the ground. I had about 2 tanks in when the engine went pop and quit. Thankful it was the magic i was flying for my first deadstick!! Floated right down with only a slight bend in the gear. Was using new 46 la, ordering fx. and changing setup according to alot of good ideas here. THANKS!

i am a flyer flying since two years have been almost perfect in pattern flying.and would like to go into 3d flying.I would like to knoe from what manouvers i should start and how to go about them.i already have a flip 3d which is flying good.But find it too expensive too learn 3d on as the fear of crash.I would like to knoe wether i should but the modeltech magic, if any if the magic flyers could help.I would like to knoe its plus points and the negatives, as i heard a lot about construction faults.

Hi varun, i have a magic extra, in my opinnion it's a good plane if you look at low cost model. i use a OS 46FX with a 12.25X3.75 apc prop, i replace the stock wires ( they are too heavy for the servos and make the plane unstable at high speed) for a pull pull system from du-bro, the plane hovers at 1/2 of throtle and make a lot of 3D maneuvers the flat spins at great. you can sometime I land with a flat spin (well i lost my rudder in the air jejeje) but the plane don't hurt.

in the construction you put some reinforcement for the rudder, i lost mine in the air. thats the ondy thing i found worst.

it a good plane i recomend too much.

hey guys...have read lots of stuff on power plants set ups of many types...but I have heard that it can be a good idea to ad support to the vertical fin...strut rods or the like..anyone got info or can you direct me to who does??...would not mind if ya email me any info at [email protected]
