I really enjoyed the video. You can't beat seeing as opposed to writing about a plane. There is a great tempation to feel that your latest what ever is just the greatest.
In the case of the DV I felt great about it from the second it left the ground but wanted to hear from others just in case I was over-rationalising.

Has anyone yet mounted a pipe onto this aircraft. I will need to keep the noise to a minimum and will require the use of the proper pipe. I'd like educated ideas and recommendations. Additionally, the pipe tunnel is very shallow. Might it be possible to deepen the cut in the formers to install a deeper pipe tunnel? Yes, more work than a quick assembly but really not that complicated if the structure allows for it.

Thanks for any info you can give me on getting a pipe mounted.

On another note, a thanks to Don and Carla at Planes Plus. They have quoted a very reasonable shipping charge to Belgium. Nothing to make me cringe as originally expected.

The reverse cans that are available will really quieten this plane down. Recessing the can any more will not gain you much. You sort of run into the landing gear plate etc.

You can save much more noise, (if that is not a nonsensical expression?), if you iso-mount the engine. I did it on my Cap 232, Extra 330 and Double vision. The B&B specialties rubber mounts allow you to make a false firewall that absorbs a lot of the vibration that makes the plane into a “drum”.

Thank you Eric. That is an interesting solution for reverberation and I shall take it into serious consideration. If you could take a DB reading with your set-up at 7 meters (Euro standard is 7 meters) I would really like to know what your results are with the Pitts muffler and the soft-mounting. Perhaps it is not as obnoxious as other Pitts muffled systems.

Ok guys I got tired of you all talking about how well your DV 3d's with a DA5, that I actually bought one. This will be my first gas engine so feel free to chime in and tell all the things that I need to know, even the stuff that you think I should already know:D

Hey Eric I wanted to ask you and the guys that are running the DA 50 -- what prop are you using?

I broke my DA-50 in with the Menz 22X8 that I got from Desert Aircraft when I bought the engine. Last weekend I tached it at 7800 rpm. I then put on a BME 22x8 prop. The rpms dropped to 6900 and it flew much better. The BME prop is a full 22 inches whereas the Menz is 21.25 inches. The BME prop has probably about the nicest finish of any prop in the industry. It has a very high gloss clear and the tips are already painted white with a red stripe. I might also add, that it was even perfectly balanced right out of the box. One last thing, it was only $23 which is one of the least expensive props in that size.

rgreen24... I sure that you have reviewed the previous 6 pages. Mark Trent & Eric Henderson have spent a lot of time posting there build ups on this forum (excellent by the way). I copied all of their comments for when my DV arrives.
In my opinion the one major difference between Gas & Glow is the ignitions on the Gas engines. You need to take care in isolating ignition noise from the Rx. This has been a great forum, so you should get a lot of good feed back.

Thanks for the comments Roadster. I am trying to find out as much information as I possible can. It's like to doing a term paper, only you really want to do it. I am trying to find out more info on RF signals and how that can affect your receiver. I am alos interested where you all put your on/off switch for your ignition?

Mark can you set the wing incidence without a meter,if so how? I got my ultimate in Monday it to looks bad ass haven't heard that the new shipment of dvs are in yet. Did you order a new one?

Yes you can. Just line up the stab with the stripes. If I'm not mistaken that has already been done in the production kits. Yes I ordered another one. Like I said, It is the most fun plane I've ever flown and I meant it. I'm waiting patiently for the next batch to come in.

Here is where I put my switch for the ignition. I'm using a ZDZ50, but it would be the same for a DA. The switch for the radio is in the cutout in the tray under the canopy.[img][/img]

I used the ca hinges and most of the stock hardware. One of the things I did differently was to tap the aluminum pegs that hold the interplane struts out to 6-32 so I didn't have to put nuts on them. I just put a 6-32 screw in from the outside and tightened it down.

I've looked around a little and can't find any thing about a new delivery date on the DV's. Planes Plus web site is off line and I've left two phone messages.

Roadster, all it said was end of April. I talked to somebody at Kanak's number last week, and they tild me the container was expected that week or next. I am bloody ansie myself, but if you can't do anything about it, don't worry about it.

I called to give em my credit card number. The pleasant lady that answered that phone said the container was due in port around the end of April. Depending on customs, she said I should see my plane the third week of May.
