New version DP Extra with Moki 2.10
Anyone out there flying the new version DP Extra with the Moki 2.10? Mine is almost ready to fly and just wanted to get some input on other peoples experience with this setup.
Thanks, Greg |

WOW! What a fun combination. Watch your speed on this one. The 210 is more then is recommended. Since your Moki is New it will be weak for a while. My 180 ran far stronger then my 210 when the 210 was brand new. After about 5 galleons you will see the Moki kick in and give you another level of power. If I had this combination I would try a 22X6 wood prop, Menz Ultra if it’s available. This will keep the speed low and give you more pull out of the hover.

I put about 100 flights on one with a 210 last summer. Do you have a cline reg. on it? I ran my 210 on the ground without the cline and it ran fine but when I flew it couldn't draw fuel aginst the g forces and dead sticked on first flight. Put a cline reg on it and haven't had another dead stick. Moki runs great. best engine I have. runing a 20x8 bambula on it. Keep it slow. The big control surfaces are desined for 3D and the ailerons will flutter if you fly it fast.
Flys very light. Great 3D plane. I really like my DP. If you want to take 5 oz off the weight put CF landing gear on it. My DP is 14.5# Randy |
RE: New version DP Extra with Moki 2.10
Thanks Tony for the input and for all the information you gave me on the cline regulator setup. It was very informative and helped me a lot. I had planned on using a 20X8 Zinger pro, but I think it will be a good idea to switch to a 22X6.
R Nick- Is your Dave Patrick the new version? Looks great on your avatar. Yes I have already put a cline regulator on it. I've run it on the ground and performed the tip test with the regulator on. I can't believe how much better it runs and sounds with the regulator. I had this engine in a 80" H9 cap 232. I flew it in this plane for 6 months without the cline. Then one cold day, I had to richen the high end quite a bit. The engine ran fine during normal flying, but just as I was getting ready to pull up into a hover it died and I lost my cap. The cap was one of the best 3D planes I have flown. I even think it is as good or better than my 31% AW edge in some respects. It was a very stable 3D plane and flew well with the MOKI. I liked that plane so much that I bought another one from my LHS. The Dave Patrick will have a lot to live up to, but from what I've heard and seen of this plane fly, I have high expectations. Looking forward to the maiden flight in 2-3 days. Greg |

Yes it is the new version. I got it covered in solid white and trimed it myself. You will not get the thrust out of a prozinger that you get out of a bambula. I started out with the prozinger and then switched to the bambula. Plane flys much better with the bambula. several pounds more thrust. I am going to try a menz s. Some claim they make more thrust than the bambula. Bambula costs less though.
Also the cg is very concervative. I started out at 6" and moved it back to 6.5"(tank on cg). Some people go as far back as 7.5" with the tank up front. Work it back a little at a time. Randy |
RE: New version DP Extra with Moki 2.10
That really is a nice looking plane rnick. One thing I am really impressed with is the amount of side area the plane has. It has more side area than my 31% AW edge. Should make for good knife edge and rolling maneuvers. Thanks again for the information. Since
I already have it, I will give the pro-zinger a try for the first few flights. Then, I may switch to the bambula or menz. If you try the menz let me know how it works. One more question. Did you do any modifications or reinforce to the way the aileron servos mount in the wings, or the elevator servos in the fuselage? When I was drilling a small hole in the plates that the hatch cover mounts to, a couple of them popped loose. I reinforced these areas with epoxy. They seemed a little flimsy for a plane this size. I also didn't use the stock hardware. Thanks, Greg |

I just soaked them with ca.

RE: New version DP Extra with Moki 2.10
I have one of the first version of the extra and was flying it with a moki 2.10 using a 20x8 prop. This is a great flying combination.
If possible reinforce the plywood servo mount tabs in the wings with epoxy+cloth. I think you mentioned in your thread that you used epoxy, this will probably be sufficient. Also, take the suggestion of using the cline reg., this is well worth the money and makes the 2.10 come alive as well as improved reliabilty. The only other suggestion would be to be sure to use metal geared servos ONLY. good luck. You have an awesome aircraft that you will enjoy. Mike |
RE: New version DP Extra with Moki 2.10
Thanks Mike and Randy.
I do have the cline and metal gear digital servos. I fly mostly 3D, but the plane happened to balance at 5 3/4. I will fly it a couple times at this location to get a feel for the plane then move it back to 6 or 6 1/4. Greg |

Hey Columbo;
How goes the war???? Look at the Wild Hare props! NK is the name brand. Great prop at a reasonable cost. I bought a 22x10 for $24. |
RE: New version DP Extra with Moki 2.10
Deputydog, where do you buy these props?
Thanks, Greg |
