RE: Freestyle Rush

Guys

I agree with Ali. I can hover my YS140FZ powered Cyclone all day, but the Rush is a lot harder. I wouldn't be to hard on yourself if you are having problems hovering it. A lot of power makes it a bit easier.
I enjoy 'flying' my mate's Rush low and slow....knife edge etc.

And also backing Ali up, the plane is a great all rounder, not a 3D model.

I know Chip Hyde addressed the wing rocking thing. Didn't read it...sorry.

Cheers

RE: Freestyle Rush

Ok I think my reply of yesterday was a little bit half hearted. I don't think it is time to throw in the towel quite yet. I was thinking about buying another engine for the Rush yesterday but decided to rather not untill I am sure that the bird will stay in my front running line up. If I can just get it to flat spin and do a few 3D moves I will be happy. Maybe a rolling harrier or somethin sick that doesn't require the wing to play a part. :)

I have to thank Ali again for the help he gave me on the Rush. Like Ali said the height above sea level thing makes everything much worse and more of a lost cause.

Sunday flying is nice, but for that I have my gliders. I'm still keen on beating the Rush!
"Never give up! Never surrender! :D

Back to bussiness. List of things to do?
1)Move CG half or more of an inch back.
2)Do radio setup again with flight modes.
3)Fly the poo out of the plane this weekend?

:D

OK guys, there has been plenty of talk about the Rush but there is a distinct lack of pictures. Can you please post pictures of your planes? Especially in flight?

Ali or Buzz, perhaps you could post a pic of your Rush hovering (nice and close to the ground of course) just to show that it can be done - and to provide some inspiration for the rest of us:D

I'll see what I can do.

My mate with the Rush has a new YS110 coming for his pattern plane. I suggested we run it in first. MMmmmm The Rush is getting the YS110!....yep, read it again. hehe I can't wait! I will post photos.

What size Cap it that?

I think the YS110 is the same size as the OS91FS that is already in it.

The Cap looks rather Adrenalin like. What is the significance of the 3rd pic? Is this how you stop your thumbs from trembling during high risk stunts?;)

Here is a spec comparison between YS110FZ and OS91FS. Should bolt straight in[8D] Might just pull the Rush out of a hover:D

OS91FS vs YS110FZ

Crankshaft Thread Size: 5/16-24 vs 8 x 1mm
Weight (with muffler): 655g vs 800g

RH1N0 one of my mates at TMAC flys a rush with a .46fx and it 3ds well and he says it is as stable as just about any trainer. the only con on thses planes is that they are apparently very prone to tip stalling and seen it happen and it happend very fast after a deadstick.

Dave,

Do you sleep? Or are you nocturnal? I know I stay up late but damn - 4a.m...
By the way, who painted that heli at the top of this page in Cyclone colours? Think I might do the next model in pink with teddy bears all over it, see if I can start a trend!

Sorry getting of subject a bit. Flew the Rush yesterday, flew great but had major radio problems, happens with certain frequencies on our patch. Will report back when sorted.

RE: Freestyle Rush

Guys

We flew the Rush with the YS110 in it yesterday.........yeh baby!!!
We used a 14x10 APC prop. The engine was straight out of the box. I have to say it is one of the best 'out of the box' YS engines I have seen.

I would have to say, if I was in the market for a Rush I would put a YS110 in it. It was awesome. The wind was blowing at 30km/h so I couldn't hover it. Not only that it isn't my plane and it doesn't have enough elevator throw.

I would do a high alpha knife edge and let it drop just above the runway, then slam the throttle open and it would blast off into a knife edge loop......Loved it!

It was only in the Rush to give the engine a bit af a run before it goes in
his new pattern plane.

Can someone let me know how to get the pictures I have, on here for you to see? I haven't done it before.

Cheers

Buzz,

To post pics you need to click reply at the bottom of this message (don't use the fast reply at the bottom of the page). A new 'Reply to Message' screen will open and at the bottom of the message pane you will see a link named 'Upload Images'. You can upload 4 images per message and they will appear at the bottom of the message when posted.

Now lets see those pics!!

Mmmm, some how invisaged you as taller than that Dave, or maybe that's a big Mustang? Yes my Cyclone is mixed throttle to rudder, works fine, but elevator trim to gear now that should be fun. That isn't Rolls Royce Hucknall by any chance is it, went to a scale day there years ago, in fact we had an order from a fellow club member for a Rush only last week.

Buzz,

What can I say, I'd sure like to see that go! Must need some serious right thrust though?

Oh well, off to bathe my poor sunburnt head. You know what it's like when your brow shrinks and your eyelids won't come down... Ouch!
Damn that cheap suntan cream.

Here are the photos. The Rush doesn't look as close to the ground as it was. :-) I would let it drop to head hight, then power out. Loved it!

RE: Freestyle Rush

Hi Buzz,
I am a very new member and still finding my way around this site.
One question - I have had a rush for a while now and although it flys great with a ASP46 to practice my aerobatics I have always had a problem with the covering lifting at nearly all the corners. This is because it it cut right at the corner. I have superglued them several times but the whole plane is starting to look tatty. I will be doing a total recover in the near future. From reading all the previous comments I will try a Super Tigre 90 in it and see how we go. Do you know if anyone has had trouble with the covering or was it maybe because I had an early one as when I got it they had not even been advertised or even listed on Model Flight site and the boys in the shop did not know much about them. It was also missing a few parts like the pull pull rudder wires, some of the hardware and 4 hinges.
Look forward to a response
Thanks
Graybags.

Forgot to mention. Please ignore the ground. Australia is in a drought right now and the field looks like crap!

I am wearing the green and the owner is standing next to me.......worrying hahahaha

None of the Rushs I have seen have had a problem with the covering. I would just maintain it until you get to recover it.

If you put a ST90 in it, you may need to put a servo in the rear to balance it and run a 15x6 (at a guess).......oh and only go to full throttle in an upline!!!!!!

RE: Freestyle Rush

My OS FS-70 just arrived in the mail.:D Now I can measure up the engine mount, fit the engine and experiment with balance and servo placement.

What are your opinions on right thrust with this plane? Should I mount the engine on the laser cut thrust line (centred laterally) and program throttle-rudder mix (radio is a JR PCM9X). Or should I offset the firewall mounting holes to the right. Or should I use washers under the engine mount. What do you guys do and what are your settings?

Cheers

RE: Freestyle Rush

RH1NO
I had to put a little right thrust in on mine with washers. But very little.

Graybags
I've had a similar problem. Only way I think to keep everything from coming off is recovering it. I think the humidity and so on in different places might cause this. Well i've never had an arf where the covering stays on. I also glued all the corners on but the oil sneaked in under everything. :)

I flew the Rush again yesterday. The flaperons seems do definitely take away a lot of the snappy tendencies. I still cant get it to 3D very well but then again the engine that's in it now is way too little. I'm gonna strip the bird for now and build another profile. I will rig the Rush again when I have bucks to slap a big Saito or something in it. The plane is a great flyer on the low rates in pattern style. Still does a very nice knife edge and really nice slow and point rolls. It will have to take a small break now though cause I wanna get my 3D skills going. [8D]
