PATTERN.... can it do 3D

Hi.

I have flown a couple of pattern planes and just saw a G Trick 90 at the store with excellent elevator and aileron as per my knowlegde ideal to do 3D maneouvers. But as we all know it costs a good 600 $. So i would like to know is a Tai ji or a ZEN capable of 3D. Anyone ?

regards
azuz

My experience with the G-Trick is that is a smooth flying machine! I LOVE mine. Altough it has the large control surfaces required for 3D, it's weight is a bit tooo much for 3D. It's a great pattern, freestyle plane. I have a YS 91 un-piped on mine. It will do well with a 120, but then you're adding more weight.

I haven't seen the Tai-Ji or Zen fly, but I believe it has slightly smaller control surfaces. Not sure on the weight, but what I've read others like these planes for their pattern capabilities.

I believe you can get the G-Trick at Central Hobbies for $500 now. Got mine at that price in Dec. If you get it, go over the fuse formers with epoxy or CA, and the firewall as well.

It flies awesome. But not as light as I'd like for 3D.

Hope this helps,
Scott

I fly pattern with ZEN50 and ZEN90 and do not bother with 3D though ZEN50 is quite capable; I use H9Edge540 for 3D.

If you want 3D at low cost, try the Global Freestyle, a fellow flier does amazing stuff with it.

have you considered Seduction FS ONO Sp. for YS .63?
Its supposed to be a nice pattern/3D plane..
Cheers

Global Freestyle

Hey Pinebaron I have been looking for someone with 1st hand experience with that plane. From what you have seen how 3D capable is it? Does it also get tame enough to fly smooth and pattern like? What engine does your friend have on it? Thanks

Global Freestyle

I have one with a YS 63. Unlimited power (verticals). They way you get it to 3d is not go by the CG recommendations that is in the manual. Mine is 1 1/2" back from where they specify. Wants a little more speed when landing to keep from stalling. Hovers real good, much better than my Sudokhoi. I believe it is because of the much longer tail moment. Blenders, flat spins, TR, knife edge loops, and pop ups were easy to do. Could not get it to do a waterfall or a harrier, wants to drop off to one side real bad, it is probably me though. Currently fininshing a Seduction Freestyle, it will be at least a pound lighter than the Global copy. The Global plane has been through a lot of abuse, pretty sturdy after you make sure the landing gear plate is reinforced with tri-stock. When I was going through the adding weight to the tail process, it flew better each time, landings were real smooth with a slight nose high attitude. You just don't need all that control surface working. But now it has longer servo arms with a lot of throw. One area that I would try to correct is the differential with those split elevator halves. I used a DB fiberglass pushrod and 4-40 rods to stiffen it up, worked.

Thanks Jon

I have the Seduction FS now. I really like the way the Freestyle looks. I would be real interested in seeing how you compare the 2 planes to each other. Thanks :)
