hi all just got my Magic Formula 3D all ready now, just seeing were the C-G was set for at 110 to 116 from leading eage. its going to the tail end quite alot i tryed to make the back end as light as i could, every thing is as far forward as i can get,i have got a irvine 53 in it which wilson said it would be great with that motor in but i dont want to add lead to it to make it like a brick what else could i do to it. if the worst comes to the worst i well have to, but i would ask u guys what u thiknk first.

differnt spinners always help if worst comes to the worse, as do special heavy domed prop nuts.
get a larger 6 cell ni-cad, if you've gotta add weight might as well make it work.
dunno if servos all up front with pull pull is an option? the one i saw was quite tight on space if you dont use the canopy area.

thats the boy! [&:] i grew up with free flight gliders, make any extra weight work for you was my lesson! my first rc glider was a hi-boy with a sub-c ni-cad, flew for weeks with no charging :D


where do you bung your RX's sym? Chris with his F3D enged up wedging it in the former just behind the tank, not enough foam for me, i suggested the canopy or throw it in the rear turtle deck somewhere.

wow this plane is very nice to fly i took it up today and it flew very good dint do that much with it as i got a new engine in it and it dint sound on song, i well be taking it down again tomorrow to see what it it can do.!!!!

Thinking about getting one of this with the Irvine 53, J'en 56 or saito 72.
Hove did the cg come out with the Irvine?
Can´t wait hearing hove it performs 3D styla flying [8D]

Wizone, Did I miss something or what was the solution. Mine is due its maiden voyage very shortly after getting a great deal of King Wilson of YT (top bloke), but it is way out on the CG, with a standard pack and a saito 72 up front the CG is 140mm, with a heavy old heli pack its 130mm, but weight is 4lbs 14oz. I reckon it will need about half a pound of lead to get it to balance!!. Used carbon rods at the tail to lighten it but it is still out. How much does yours weigh?, did you have to bung some weight upfront and how much?, does she fly as well as she looks???, have you noticed any flutter issues that others have mentioned?? as I was considering bracing the back end, but I would need to own a lead mine to get it balance!!!.

hi extraslim, i did have a prob getting to get the cg right as well.i put every thing as far forward as i could and it did need abit of lead to bring it up. but i only had a 1100 battery in it so i took that out and put a 2200 in it and it seem to sort it out, it came out about 130mm,it flys great on the irvine 53 with a 13x4w prop on it. i have not noticed any flutter on this plane and i have been flying it on full power a lot of the time, it does every thing u can to to this plane and it well still come back and ask to do it again it is a very good plane i would be looking at getting another one when they are back in stock to put a satio 82 or a YS63 in it this time. i did get some video of it flying but i need to edit it a little,

My Formula with a Saito 91 with a heave APC15x4W prop,

still needed a 1700 5 cell nicad ( 6 1/2 oz pushed to the firewall)

and alloy spinner to get the CG to 110.

Fitted wire pull pull on the rudder to save weight, as the OEM piano wire for the pull pull

is way heavy.

but she is such a beauty to fly

My all up-weight is 5lb10oz,

Guys, you are both gentlemen, thanks. I have sleaved the rods on the tail with carbon to stiffen having heard flutter stories. Weighed it wrong last time, with standard pack it comes in at 5lbs 6oz but has taken nearly 12 oz of lead to bring it to 110mm, giving all up at about 6lbs which it states in the instructions. How much does yours weigh Wizone??, would love to see the movie. I'm tempted to "swing some lead "and brave a rearward CG as light is bright:D.

Go for a larger battery pack, as has been said b4, the weight might as well be working , rather than lead.

Recommend you change the piano wire on the rudder pull pull its way heavy and there is nearly 6 feet of it .

if you save an oz on the back you will save 3 or 4 on the front.

you could change the servos on the elevator, to SD250 mg's, that change will save you 2 oz on the back,
And at 6 volt they run very close to 4kg pull and .10 speed each.

That 3+oz saved on the rear will remove most of that lead from the front .


On a different note I have just found out the Saito 91 with muffler is 10g lighter,
than the Irvine 53 with muffler, 520 v 530 grams, hard to believe

What i did is I added the weight w/lead on the tail skid on my Gee-Whiz-Bee.
If your going to stick a 53 on it you can pull the extra weight. Ther is no way your going to stick a 6V. pack in that thing. I've flown one and they fly really good so have fun. Don't forget to fly the rudder.

Dont worry m8 :)

I take it, Wilson, has forgot to tell you,
I shook him upside down at Cosford ;), and he produced a red set for
me there and then, I only just missed you, you left early.

Formula, has made about 10 flights well impressed, no flutter problems with the
Saito 91, vertical is, well shall we say interesting,......... hold in front of canopy,
rev up, let go, thats it no runway needed.

Hope to have a full days flying with it today(Tue) if the weather holds out.

Cant make it to Woodvale this weekend :(.

Guys Hi,

Formulas first outing this weekend, it is great. With the CG at 110mm, the inverted flight is achieved by breathing on down elevator- perfect. Shes a real floater, mine is 6lbs, 2oz when all said and done, messing with lead etc. The only thing I will change is to fit a aluminim mount for the saito 72, the plastic one supplied is "giving" a little in the hot weather. No flutter porblems with mine, I used proper hinges and carbon sleaved the pushrods, I would imagine a 91 would be awesome.

Hi Slim,

You noticed the engine mount was to soft to, I thought
I might have just had a bad one, and the weather has been very hot.
left to right is fine, but up and down movement on the mount is a good1/4 inch(flex).

Glad the maiden went well, and you got some pics.

Waiting for the rain and low cloud to pass,
and hopefully I will get an afternoon of flying in.

Now if I was a salesman I would say the supplied mounts are vibration proof, haha.

Yeah I had to see a supplier at the NEC on saturday, so I didn't get back to Cosford until 4'ish. Made up for lost time though on the night.

Yeah xup, the up / down is at least 1/4 inch, and so I have shelved it until I get the new aluminium ones in, dont want to shake it to pieces. I took it to my other club last night, took me ages to wipe the drool off it!!!. I was playing with props and deduced the 13x4 sport was best for the 72, but she did get a little warm revolving at 11,400. I tried a 12x6 and 13x6 but couldnt get the thrust required.

I reckon I will be able to take a little more lead out when I switch to an ally mount aswell, it will be down to 3 or so oz's.

In general I'm really impressed with the machine and equally with Wilson at YT.
