DP Ultimate Pull-Pull?

I am finishing up a Dave Patrick 120 Ultimate and was wondering about the pull-pull elevator hookup. Does this setup work well? Hard to install? Center? Any comments from those with this model would be appreciated! Thanks!

RE: DP Ultimate Pull-Pull?

I'm doing the same setup on a DP Edge 540T. It does work well from what I hear. I'm sure it's a bit of a pain to install like all pull pull but he tells where to cut the slots in the fuse on my model. It should be pretty easy. They do center fine from what I hear. I have not installed mine yet. While you're waiting for a reply from some one that actually did it, you can do a search on that ARF and I'm sure people have discussed it.

RE: DP Ultimate Pull-Pull?

I did two DP Ultimate 40's. The first one set up per instructions. I ended up with a slight roll whenever I pulled up a lot of elevator. In the second plane I mounted the servo under the canopy floor with the servo arm running vertical and on the centerline. That way it was more likely that both elevator halves would move the same distance. It worked. I didn't have the rolling problem with the second setup. Anyway, good flying.

To tell you the truth, I'm mounting everything on the plane first. Then I will put the radio gear in last. I want to see if two elevator servos in the tail balances with a Moki 2.10. If it needs a bunch of nose weight, I will go pull pull on the elevator. If it balances fine I will go with elevator servos in the tail. In either case the rudder will be pull pull.

Thanks for the info guys. Mounting the servo on the centerline is a good idea and I will search the topic for further.

RE: DP Ultimate Pull-Pull?

I was wondering the same thing about the pull-pull on the DP ultimate a few weeks ago. I first flew it a few times with the pull-pull setup on the elevator. It worked ok, but they would both not center the same. I was also worried about flutter. Last week I put 1 elevator per each half in the tail at the bottom of the stab and just run a pushrod back there. It works a lot better and flies better. I have more torque now, and it balances out better. I use a YS 140. The rudder is fine and works great with pull-pull.

Ryan,

What type servos did you use in the tail and how did you mount them? I have already assembled the stab and fin to the model.

RE: DP Ultimate Pull-Pull?

I have Tower Hobbies TS 70's in the tail (133oz of torque each). One for each elevator half. I have them in right underneath the stabalizer. I cut out the plywood that the servos fit. Then I made another piece of plywood that the servos will fit into so its strong. It works good, and gives my more tail weight for 3D. I'll post a picture on Friday. I won't be home till Friday. I like this better then the other way. The rudder is fine.

Here are two links to pictures of it. You can't see the elevator servo installation though. I'll post that on Friday.

Thanks Ryan, good looking models! Mine is the red, white and yellow scheme. Look forward to seeing the servo set-up. I am not quite confident in my skills to rig all that wire back and forth through the fuselage for both elevator halves.

Here are the pictures as promised. Some of them got blurry, but you can see them ok to see how the servo setup is.

RE: DP Ultimate Pull-Pull?

Thanks Ryan, the photos help. I've never done a servo in the tail set-up.
