Well flew it for the first time today and seven more times today !!!! I have a new favorite plane :D!!!!!!!! I can't even describe how pleased I am with this plane it lands better than any trainer I have seen and flys like its on rails. It has great control authority combined with great stability can't ask for any thing more!!!!!!!! I set it up with JR 537 servos on everything but throttle and used a Hitec HS-81mg on throttle . It is powered by an OS 91 pumped and a 15X4 W APC prop I would recommend this plane to anyone!!!!

Where did you purchase this plane? Is there a website I can check out?

EXTRA ADDICT 02-07-2005 06:59 AM

RE: Fliton Extra 330 Freestyle Who's Got One?

I bought the plane through Atlanta Hobby (WWW.ATLANTAHOBBY.COM) you can also see it at WWW.FLITON.COM and I must say I had an issue with the landing gear sent the guys at Fliton an email and they sent me out a new set of gear no questions asked. Plus they contacted me to make sure I got the gear and to make sure I had no further problems great customer support if you ask me. Both of the web sites I listed have great video footage of this plane in action check it out you will not be disappointed!

How much do these things sell for? Looks like it would be a good home for a Saito 100?.?.?

EXTRA ADDICT 02-09-2005 09:48 PM

RE: Fliton Extra 330 Freestyle Who's Got One?

I gave 205 bucks for mine plus shipping. A saito 100 would do great on this thing. The saito is a good deal lighter than my OS 91 and a litlle more powerful.

BTW how did you do your canopy? for hold down

sknx 03-15-2005 04:28 AM

RE: Fliton Extra 330 Freestyle Who's Got One?

I did not installed it yet. Just tinted it. I was planning to use the screws.
The plane came out quite nicely but I'm a little bit concerned about the elevator linkage. It seems flimsy. Having second thoughts installing 2 servos in the tail with short push rods.
In the existing configuration it's tail heavy ; the battery will go on the side of the firewall. If I'm not mistaken in the manual is a picture showing the cg at 88mm on the root.
How are the nylon bolts holding the wings ? Did you try some violent blenders?

Boby

BTW .... on my postal scale with Saito 100, custom muffler, 1500 mA battery it came at 92.5 oz. I think that's a really light plane. My yak 68!QUOT! the same engine is 8lb 4 oz.

EXTRA ADDICT 03-15-2005 06:43 AM

RE: Fliton Extra 330 Freestyle Who's Got One?

So far I haven't had any problems with the wing bolts other than putting them in as my hands are to big! I read on E-Zone in the reveiw that the cg needed to be moved back to 125mm. I have moved mine but have not flown it since. The weather here in VA has not been cooperative at all most of the time the wind has been in excess of 30mph! I will post a flight report with the CG moved back soon as I get back from Sweden in April :D.

RE: Fliton Extra 330 Freestyle Who's Got One?

I walked into the LHS today saw the Extra and I knew I was scr#wed!!!! Its sitting at home now ... just wanna ask ... will this baby fly with a Saito 72, I am not going to use her for 3D, was thinking since its only 6 lbs then a Saito 72 should be very fine. I am going to want good uplines only. Anyone to comment, please do not ask me to get an OS91 or Saito 100, if not I will end up fitting on my YS110 and tearing the wings apart. Thanks!!!

Sprink 03-16-2005 11:33 AM

RE: Fliton Extra 330 Freestyle Who's Got One?

The saito 72 will strugle with a 6 lb plane. I had my 72 in a 6lb plane, it went well, but not unlimited vertical.

I then put a 100 in and was very happy :D

tIANci 03-16-2005 11:59 AM

RE: Fliton Extra 330 Freestyle Who's Got One?

I am not looking for unlimited vertical but just IMAC/F3A flying. Perhaps you are right ... the Saito 100 is pretty light ... maybe my YS110 is better, just worried about the vibration.

EXTRA ADDICT 03-16-2005 08:56 PM

RE: Fliton Extra 330 Freestyle Who's Got One?

My plane weighs 6pounds 2 ounces with the OS 91 surpass II pumped. The OS 91 weighs 24.6 oz vs 16.6 oz for the saito. Plus I am using an 1100 mah ni-cad battery pack If you go with the saito and a smaller battery say a 600mah you will be under 5.5 pounds. In my opinion mine is wat overpowered it will climb vertical at just over 1/4 throttle. I think you will be very happy with the saito 72 and there is always 30% heli fuel if you aren't.

tIANci 03-17-2005 01:43 AM

RE: Fliton Extra 330 Freestyle Who's Got One?

Extra - thanks for the info, understand what you mean about the Saito 72 with a 5.5 lbs plane. I will probably build her and then weigh her in to make my final decision. Wish I did not have the Saito 72 lying about then I can just rip the 82 outta the box ... think the 82 will be just right.

I can't bliv that you hang at 1/4 throttle, darn good stuff!

sknx 03-17-2005 05:14 AM

RE: Fliton Extra 330 Freestyle Who's Got One?

Well, I went to the field with the extra 2day. I was planning to make the final touches this morning but the bad luck stroke. While dialing the Tx my receiver went nuts, all the servos were buzzing and finally the rudder burned. Never heard such thing but it happened. Replaced the Rx and went to the field and tested the engine. Hope tomorrow will fly.
I'm a little disappointed about the construction. The frame is light and it looks great but as someone said it seems the release was rushed and they did not checked some things.

there is no decent way to secure the hatch
some part of the hardware belongs to some other plane, especially the push rods
elevator linkage is good for a trainer or warbird not for a aerobatic
if you try to install the engine 45 deg, the engine mount is sticking out of the firewall

I hope I'll come with some better comments after the first flight.

EXTRA ADDICT 03-19-2005 07:57 AM

RE: Fliton Extra 330 Freestyle Who's Got One?

This plane has the best flight characteristics of any I have flown! It is more stable than a trainer and as wild as I can make it when you bang the sticks! Landings a super slow 3 point every time. I have not been able to make this plane snap out or drop a wing. Harriers are rock solid with no wing rock at all. I sound like a Fliton salesman here but trust me I am not I am just so happy with this plane and the way it flies! I am not happy with the canopy attachment that does suck but so far that is the only problem I have. It did come with landing gear that the mounting holes were drilled wrong and all I did was email flitton and they sent me the correct ones no questions asked! They didn't even want proof of purchase! I had the new gear in a matter of days and they contacted me to make sure I received them now that is service!!

RE: Fliton Extra 330 Freestyle Who's Got One?

1 Attachment(s)
drumbum: I just epoxied some wood legs, drill holes and install nyrod inserts for screws. It's a easy job, takes you 20 min and is convenient.

I flew the plane 4 times. Still have some problems with my Saito, does not idle to well and I have to chase it on the taxi way. I hope I fixed it and I'll give it a shot 2day.
The plane it's a breeze to fly. It floats forever and it handles more on 3D side than pattern. That's probably because mine is a little tail heavy with 2 servos for elevator.
I don't have any mixes , just dual rates and a lot of expo.
Takeoff and landing : well I'm not gonna comment much on that. It slows down very well and 3 points are easy.
Snap roll: on slow rates looks beautiful and it stops as soon as you release the sticks.
Knife edge: almost no coupling. It goes all the field in straight lines. Cut slowly the throttle and increase the rudder, some planes will snap at some point. Not this one .
Hover: half throttle and tons of fun. Just be sure that you have all the rudder you can get.
Flat spins, blenders ...you name it. It will do it . It's a very nice plane to fly. I could not find any bad habits.

How does this plane compare with the Extreme Flight Yak and the Funtana 90?

drumbum 03-20-2005 08:54 PM

RE: Fliton Extra 330 Freestyle Who's Got One?

your asking the wrong person about the F90. i hate mine..

but EXTRA ADDICT has both the EF yak AND the EXTRA 330.. ill let him answer.. oh he has also owned 2 funtanas..

EXTRA ADDICT 03-20-2005 09:54 PM

RE: Fliton Extra 330 Freestyle Who's Got One?

Thank you DRUMBUM! First of all you can't compare this plane to a Funtanna. Second I like the Yak more but it doesn't fly as well in the wind as the Extra. The Extra will do anything a pilot is capable of making it!!!!! For the money you can't loose!!

tIANci 03-20-2005 11:01 PM

RE: Fliton Extra 330 Freestyle Who's Got One?

Extra ... you are making me salivate!!! I got the F90 NIB with a YS110 and now I am thinking perhaps its time to pass her to someone else! Just that the Fliton Extra is a big 40 sized plane only. If it were a 90 sized then I would probably sell the F90 immediately. Why do you say that the EF Yak is not as good in the wind? Everyone seems to be singing its praises. Thanks!

drumbum 03-20-2005 11:34 PM

RE: Fliton Extra 330 Freestyle Who's Got One?

On flitons site its a 90 size plane 40 to 51 2 stroke 63 to 91 4 stroke is what is says here

http://www.fliton.com/new/doc/frame.asp

click on products and nitro planes then extra and look at specs in the picture

drumbum 03-20-2005 11:42 PM

RE: Fliton Extra 330 Freestyle Who's Got One?

the yak is a light wingloaded lite flying plane. the wind will knock it around. the extra will cut through better.. the yak is a very good plane I think its EXTRAs favorite but if its windy he just leaves it in the truck.. I also read on the yak thread someone else saying same about windy conditions...

EXTRA ADDICT 03-21-2005 06:42 AM

RE: Fliton Extra 330 Freestyle Who's Got One?

The Extra cuts through the wind alot better.
