Is 3D the coolest form of the hobby
Well

RE: Is 3D the coolest form of the hobby
yes
|
RE: Is 3D the coolest form of the hobby
It depends what you like more. I personally like imac. But 3d is always fun :D
|
RE: Is 3D the coolest form of the hobby
ORIGINAL: cleyland I personally like imac. |
RE: Is 3D the coolest form of the hobby
Its good for a laugh. Coolest, dunno Foof. The cutting edge, in terms of aerobatics, is TOC style or F3A though.

RE: Is 3D the coolest form of the hobby
Not the coolest, but the most exciting...especially running from someone's out of control plane who thinks he knows what he's doing. Pattern is the coolest.

Wayne when ever you fly, its not actually you flying. You just move the sticks around hoping the plane will stay in the air. I am always cautious around you. :D

Define cool [&:]
Is it the area that is getting the most attention? Probably Is it the new kid on the block? Most definately Coolest? Hmm... Ultimately depends, doesnt it. I bet the scale guys think us bunch of upstarts should not be allowed near a tranny. "Bl**dy aerobatics" I bet they are saying, "whats all that about then". To answer the question though, YES :D |
RE: Is 3D the coolest form of the hobby
Coolest? Hmmm.....nahh. I'll have to go with Jason and say pattern is definitely the coolest, but also the least understood (and more demanding argueably).
But 3D definitely has more bling for the buck. It's the latest, but it's getting old in some cases. Like the new is completely worn off the torque roll, unless you are trying to do one and can't ;) It's not the most cutting edge either, for prop planes pattern still leads that one I think. 3D is just newer. And it gets people's attention FAST, whether good or bad. Bad gets it faster. I like it, I do it, but it's not the coolest. Jets are pretty cool [8D] -Mike |
RE: Is 3D the coolest form of the hobby
Well, I think the coolest is flying what ever you like to fly. That's usually the coolest. Unless you are flying in Michigan in January. That's pretty cool too. [&:]

RE: Is 3D the coolest form of the hobby
I like 3-D if it's done right. The problem I've seen is when some people learn to hover
they think they've mastered 3-D. There's a lot more to 3-D than hovering. tommy s |
RE: Is 3D the coolest form of the hobby
I detest 3D. F3A is the best!
I respect the abilities of 3D pilots though. The problem is when 3D pilots fly in the area used by the flight pattern of the field. Mid-air collisions are no fun. The difficulty level of both pattern and 3D are distinctly different. It is interesting to note that when an accomplished pattern pilot flies 3D the flights are so graceful and smooth. To me that just demonstrates the skill and flight awaresness that the disciplined pattern pilot develops. As pointed out in other posts there is a lot more to 3D flying than hovering and torque rolls. If the sequence is put together well and the pilot is really skilled then the distinction between pattern and 3D blurs. It is all about skill in multiple manuevers. Whatever you fly and whatever flight style you prefer, flying is still fun. Safety is no accident! |
RE: Is 3D the coolest form of the hobby
IIRC wasn't it PATTERN fliers that started the whole 3D thingy? (TOC) (QQ)?
Wasn't it pretty much PATTERN fliers that started IMAC? And I KNOW for a FACT it was a PATTERN/PYLON flier that started Jets (BVM) |
RE: Is 3D the coolest form of the hobby
F3A is for boring grandads who want to 'learn' what this aerobatic 'malarchy' is all about ;)
ok the above is NOT MY ACTUAL THINKING, it just sounded funny in my brain so out it came :D lol but i'd say 3d and f3a are both cool 3d is cool in the sense of popularity, F3A is cool in the sense of mystery and its funky F3A name lol |
RE: Is 3D the coolest form of the hobby
And 3D is for loser kids who get beat up and picked on too much so they go to the field and terrorize old helpless grumpy guys with planes daddy bought for them to get them out of his hair......
Right? Not my thinking, but it sounded funny :D Hehe. -Mike (competetive pattern pilot, part time 3d hellraiser) |
RE: Is 3D the coolest form of the hobby
hey Vtol is Ken Binks still flying F3A there? I met him must be near 20 years ago now when I was in England.
|
RE: Is 3D the coolest form of the hobby
TOC style 3D, IMAC, and just for fun all-out 3D, and to answer your question, yes.:D
|
RE: Is 3D the coolest form of the hobby
Sorry to interupt this thread; but what is 3d? Does it have to do with photography?
|
RE: Is 3D the coolest form of the hobby
I think that Electric/Foamy 3D planes are the newest, funniest, and coolest part of the hobby now,
|
RE: Is 3D the coolest form of the hobby
Ken Binks now does model yacht racing.
3D is for guys who cany fly F3A or for guys who already fly F3A when they want to do something different :);) Angus F3A and part time 3D pilot |
RE: Is 3D the coolest form of the hobby
For "Joe Public" watching a pattern contest would be as exciting as watching paint dry :D

RE: Is 3D the coolest form of the hobby
ORIGINAL: George E. For "Joe Public" watching a pattern contest would be as exciting as watching paint dry :D But then neither is golf really, until enough people started doing it themselves and began to appreciate what it took to do it well. And I still hate watching golf. And not many people will sit there for 10 hours watching paint dry...... -Mike |
RE: Is 3D the coolest form of the hobby
cool is taking off, flying and landing...peroid. for the enthusist it's ALL fun. (and legal too!) JMO ;)
