RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Vs. Model Tech Magic
rcpimpin101,
C'mon man, upside that motor, I promise you'll have more fun :D I know I did when I upgraded from a .46. |
RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Vs. Model Tech Magic
Dude, you dont know how much I wish i could do that, but im 16 years old w\ out a job and trying to keep up with a 35% carden edge and trying to scratch build a new fuse for my 33% raven, which i crashed 2 weeks ago. I havent started building the fuse but i know i need to save up some money! I know someone who can sell me a tuned pipe to put on it for cheap, hopefully that'll boost the power.

Nice job...JW
ORIGINAL: thevirginian lynnpreston; I post my pix again to show you how I did it. Don't cut a notch in the existing wing tips. It only weakens them. Just glue a piece of balsa 3/16" thick onto it. |
RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Vs. Model Tech Magic
o man!!! I had a good chance to play w\ the twist today, i went down to the end of my street to a coldasack with a little opening in the trees about 50 x 50 yards. It was sweeeeet, it does harriers and elevators nicely downwind but once you turn into the wind it feels impossible. I love TRing this plane, i think thats its signature maneuver, along w\ a flatspin!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The one thiing that really bothers me about this plane is the rolling harriers arent that pretty, its sensitive to either rudder or ele when rolling, I didnt try to figure it out. I love this plane now, today was the best i ever had w\ it!!!!!!!!:D:):D

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Vs. Model Tech Magic
thevirginian,
I added your mod to my Twist, and you're right. It just makes the plane behave better all around. Definitely worth the trouble. I still can't elevator this plane. I can tail slide the heck out of it, but no elevator. Shouldn't a tail slide normally be more difficult than an elevator? I suspect it may be because in an elevator the tail isn't getting clean air, but in a tail slide it is. |
RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Vs. Model Tech Magic
lynn,
try this: go vertical, gain some altitude for safety, give a tad up-elevator and immediately throw both sticks at 2 o'clock. The correct entry is critical. But with a little practice she'll spin on her back on the spot. Pretty spectacular to look at. If your four stroke is running on the rich side she'll disappear in her own smoke. I love this maneuver. Once you get the hang of it you can do it with less safety under your tail. It is pretty safe. BTW, my extensions are each 2" wide. So it adds 4" to the wingspan total. |
RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Vs. Model Tech Magic
Kewl, I'll definitely try that next flight. I guessed and made my extentions 2 inches as well.
Any tips on elevatoring this beast? I can easily elevator my Extremeflight Mini 3D, but the Twist eludes me. |
RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Vs. Model Tech Magic
lynn;
I am still learning 3D. I'm not that good yet. So, I really can't tell you whether she can do the elevator or not. |
RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Vs. Model Tech Magic
i havent had a perfect day to try an elevator but I know it harriers great downwind, but headwind is very hard.

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Vs. Model Tech Magic
FYI, HobbyPeople.net has Magnum .91 4-strokes on sale for $150. I ordered another one to replace the rather old Mag .91 currently on my Twist. Great motor for the Twist, and at $150 you can't go wrong.

[X(]WOW[X(]!!!!! You sure cant go wrong w\ that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Vs. Model Tech Magic
Hello All:
What kind of servos are you guy using on the twist?? Regular or high torque?? My Twist is on transit, I can't wait!!!! thanks and best regards Picaro |
RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Vs. Model Tech Magic
Picaro;
You can go wrong by using Futaba S3001. If you want something better, then go with either S3010 or S9001. The equivalent from Hitech would be the HS635 Karbonite. |
RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Vs. Model Tech Magic
I'm running standard servos on mine . . . and I have them setup for mechanical DISadvantage, hehe. I'm running 6V, but would still like the servos to be a bit quicker. No flutter on mine so far. I do have my hinges sealed.

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Vs. Model Tech Magic
I have a Magic - the landing gear set-up is very weak - I've ripped it off four times to include the wood. The plane flies great with a .40 FP. But it is squirrely in some maneuvers. Great for hovering on a windy day. I'm rebuilding my Funtana .40, (super windy day, engine flamed out, tried to horse it to the ground - no airspeed and not enough space between the ground and the sky - SUPER STALL broke its back.) Good flying plane, hope to fly it again. Now building my 1st Twist, looking forward to flying it. I have flown someone else's Twist - got me hooked. I also like the Uproar. Had to retire my old one after 7 years- too much fuel soakage and just plain worn out.

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Vs. Model Tech Magic
Im running 4721's for ailerons and Rudd, DS 537 on throttle, and a 8411 on elevator, i did have a 4721 on ele but strippied it when trying to tail tap and all i had was an 8411 from my crashed 33%er. Works great though, but now i have a crisis bc the inside of the fuse is SOAKED with nitro fuel and the landing gear came out.[&o]
