I had a Mejzlik 18X6 on my OS 160. The 18X8 ran out of steam. The 18X6 had a much better verticle. Go with a 18X6 for that engine. Also tried the 20X6. Very poor in verticle.

AWAT?

Awat, what plane and weight?

Sig Extra 300 and 13.5 pounds. Tried all 3 props the same day. 18X6, 18X8, 20X6. All Mejzliks

I had both the Mezjlik 20X6 and the APC 18X6.

The mezjlik 20X6 would pull my over weight 14.5 pound Extra up out of a hover. The 18X6 APC would just hover and not pull out.

The 20X6 had lots of torque going on. Didn't want to give it full throttle from an idle too close to the ground, it would try to roll the plane over and vertical lines required right rudder correction or would have needed more right thrust.

OS 160 prop

Awat, there are few who have ran the OS 160 more than my friend and I with as many different combinations as we have. We tried nearly all major props and fuel combos and have found that the OS 160 performs best on 5% fuel, Zinger pro 18 X 6 ( the Mejicklek 18 X 6 is good too) and a Macs header and mouse can pipe. Now if you go pitts, I would go with SLimline over Bisson. Jerry Smith has a manual you can buy for $5 and it tells how to build a mousse can muffler for various engines. We fly at 500 msl. Hope this helps. Jeff Williams

Must disagree....

I must say there is no comparison between the zinger pro and the mejzlik....The zinger is a low quality prop..when i ran it on my 160..13lb plane I couldnt stand it..So I must disagree the two props are in two different classes...Like...Well, lets see...Volkswagon beetle(zinger pro) from 1967 to a 2002 lexus(mejzlik)

I ran my engine with a Jtec dual snuffler and two Hobbico exhaust deflectors.

The deflectors reduced my rpm by 200 but reduced my clean up at the end of the day to 1/2 sheet of paper towel. That's after flying a gallon thru it.

I ran APC 18X6: 9400 rpm, APC18X8: 8400 rpm, Bolly 18X10 7800 rpm, Bolly three blade 16.5X10: 7800 rpm, Mejzlik 20X6: 7800 rpm and Mejzlik 20X8: 6800 rpm and sagging.

The 20X8 was just too much.

The best thrust was between the 20X6 and the 18X6. The 18X6 was LOUD!

Sherlock, you asked for opinions. I did give mine in saying I liked the pro as well as the mejzlik. It is just an opinion, and I have lots of empty fuel jugs to back me up. You like the mejzlik and that is fine, but I did not come up with some comparison to invalidate my findings. I have found that the pro accelerates as well, just my findings. Obviously you felt different and that is fine. But you have to agree that any 20" prop is too much. We tried those too, and found the same. The pro is a "low quality prop" is your opinion. The attached picture shows the pro does the job.
Best of luck, Jeff Williams

Opinion??or fact

Jwilliams,
Zinger IS known for being an inexpensive prop..not only because it dosent cost much but they are not as good of a design (air foils)as others...That statement is True...Why does everything have to be an opinion????I did try the zinger side by side of the mejzlik...sorry They are two different animals in all aspects..Including Performance...I have no problem of the zinger being used...Just held in the same catagory as the Better Higher end props..

By the way I saw Jason Shuman take a magic that was fitted w/ an all electric setup..He flew it amazingly..but when he was done he said he didnt like the plane or the way it handled..so my point is just because a plane can...lets see...Hover for a picture, dosent mean that the prop on it is a better performer then others...or the plane is flying at its full potential.

So I guess In your point of view Its just an opinion....Or is it...You know I have stated in days past that the sky is blue is that only my opinion??? or, could that be a fact????

Food for thought....

Scott, opinion or fact I will let you decide. I too ran the mejzlik side by side my pro and I really saw minimal difference, if any difference so I spend $40 for a mejzlik or $18 for the pro. I go with the pro for the price and to me, no performance loss. I will fly the zinger and you fly the mejzlik and we will both be happy. The picture was just to say I like the prop and what it does for me. I agree with Jason Shulman, the magic is not very good and way overrated. After flying that plane I would not purchase one, just an opinion because they are selling the heck out of them and plenty of modelers like them. I have no hard feelings but it is always fun to discuss the hardware for these planes we love.
Happy contrails, Jeff Williams
