Wild Stick 40
I couldnt find a dedicated thread for this airplane so I thought I would start one. I just ordered it and should recieve it next week. I plan using the following configuration:
OS 70 4 JR 537's on Ail/Flps HT 645's on elev/rud I would really like to hear from anyone flying this plane. My last 40 size was a funtana 40. I will post about how it builds and flies. I am anticipating a solid aerobatic and 3D aircraft thats easy to transport. |
RE: Wild Stick 40
Hi Budget... I have just completed one... OS 46ax Futaba 3004s and one 3010 on the Ruder Came out extreamly nose heavy... Moter and battery as far to the rear as they can be... 4 1/4 oz of weight on the tail.... ALSO CAREFUL as the rudder servo hits on the elevator push rods... spaced my Rudder servo off the fuse. with wheel colars.. Has a 320cc fuel tank???? I have a MODEL TECH 90 Fun Fly with that size tank... Must say that the quality of the plane is the BEST I have ever seen... HOPE TO HAVE THE FIRST FLIGHT THIS WEEK Walt... |
RE: Wild Stick 40
It sounds like I will be making a few changes when I build it. Are the servos in the tail up front? Also do you think there is clearance for a 13-14 inch prop?
|
RE: Wild Stick 40
I have a 12x4 on mine and it has 2 1/2 inch clearance from the ground.. The rudder servo is under the REAR of the fus and the elevator in in the provided servo tray under the wing... This plane is very different than most 3D type... The wing cord is quite THIN... This plane is either going to fly GREAT or very BAD... Hope it flys as good as it looks...:) |
RE: Wild Stick 40
HMMMMMM,
I just checked mine with an OS 46 AX,and it balances in the center of the range (41/4" behind the LE). I did put my battery pack in the unused cutout in the servo tray. All I like is the 4 wing pushrods, and some XP8103 programming, and she's ready. I have no complaints on anything yet. In fact, I have this one on backorder. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXJUV0&P=0 Mike |
RE: Wild Stick 40
I sure DO NOT understand the weight difference in the two planes.. I used a CG MACHINE to balance mine so I am SURE it needed the weight.... |
RE: Wild Stick 40
I get my Wild Stick Monday. I hope that it is as good as it is supposed to be. This is going to replace a Super Air that I dumped nose first last Sunday. Was my first crash. At least it was a good one with lots of debris!
Any building tricks that you guys could give me before I start the build. I am going to put an OS 50 in it so it should have ample power. Thanks Graham |
RE: Wild Stick 40
There's nothing to this one.
You will need 3- 12" servo extensions, and 7 servos. You really need a computer radio to get your money's worth. I didn't have any problems with the rudder linkages interfearing with the elevator pushrods either. It's a simple glue together, and hook up controls type ship. It is very well made, and easy to put together. Mike |
RE: Wild Stick 40
I am using a futaba 7chp What kind of programing are you using?
Graham |
RE: Wild Stick 40
Graham,
I downloaded this manual.I'm using the JR XP 8103. http://www.horizonhobby.com/ProdInfo...450-manual.pdf Mike |
RE: Wild Stick 40
I also put together a Wild Stick. The plane is very nice. The metric bolt packs suck. Some of the small parts were gone. I'm running an older O.S. 50 FSR. Haven't balance or flown yet. I'm pretty sure the battery will have to go way in back. Over all it's a very nice and very light plane. It should fly great.

RE: Wild Stick 40
WALT, just curious if you have flown yours yet, I will not have mine built until this weekend. I am worried about yours coming out that nose heavy because I wanted to put OS 70 in mine.
|
RE: Wild Stick 40
Hi Budget, Yes, I have 8 flights on mine... Still trying different props and set ups. Was surprised that i could hover it and control the wings. I thought the flaps would make it very hard to steady the wings... Have not been able to flat spin it yet.. May need MORE tail weight !!!! [:o] Seems to fly at high speeds better than slow.. very smooth.. I think it is the weight and the small wing cord... It is more an aerobatic type than a 3D type aircraft... GOOD LUCK...;) Walt.... |
RE: Wild Stick 40
Well I just opened my kit and it looks very nice. Nice big surfaces. I will have it built for this weekend.
|
RE: Wild Stick 40
I finally flew mine yesterday evening.
I only had time for a 10 minute trim/break the jitters flight. With the 46AX,and APC 12.25X3.75 it's still pretty fast. Did a few loops, and rolls, and landed. All in all,I'm happy with it. I have a little trimming, and some programming tweaking to do yet. This was my first flight in about 3 years, and it was no problem to put it where I wanted it. I was flying mostly @ 1/3 throttle as I was worried about those giant control surfaces fluttering. I'll update after a few more flights. Mike |
RE: Wild Stick 40
Hey walt, you said you were surprised at how much aileron control had even with the flaps while hovering. This is leading me to believe you dont have it set up for flaperons. You would get even more control with this set up.

RE: Wild Stick 40
Anyone set their wild stick using a futaba 7c or maybe a 9c? I am using a 7chp and am trying to get this thing programed like the way it tells you on futaba's website in the "faq" section using the 7 servo setup as an example. I I can't get the damn thing to work the way I want it to! I am new at programing mixing. Tonight i spent 2 hours messing with it and have got nowhere.
Can someone give me some advice? thanks Graham |
RE: Wild Stick 40
lets here some more flight reports.

RE: Wild Stick 40

Hi Budget, On my transmitter, with two servos for flaps only and two for ailerons only you can not set up flaperons like you can with ONE large strip aileron... The FLAP servos BOTH go in one direction up or down,,,, ALSO if anyone is building one please note: THE DECALS TURN MILKY AFTER YOU INSTALL THEM..[:-] I have been told that after a day or so they CLEAR UP..[/i] Walt... |
RE: Wild Stick 40
How are the landings? Does it float in or drop in?
|
RE: Wild Stick 40
I had one for a few weeks and it was a very nice plane i could get it to do real good Inverted flat spins and it would hover real well BUT I WANT TO TELL YOU THAT THEY DO A TERRIBLE JOB OF PUTTING THIS PLANE TOGETHER I HAD THE LANDING GEAR BLOCK COME OFF DURING FLIGHT AND THE COVERING KEPT IT ATTACHED TO THE PLANE AND THE GEAR WERE ON TOP OF THE WING IT WAS VERY HARD TO LAND THIS WAY IT WANTED TO ROLL TO THE RIGHT . SO I FIXED THAT WITH SOME EPOXY WHICH IT SEEMED THEY FORGOT TO PUT INTO IT
SO I TOOK IT OUT AGAIN LAST NIGHT NOT EVEN THINKING ABOUT THE FACT THAT THERE WAS NO GLUE AT THAT JOINT MAYBE I SHOULD CHECK THE FIREWALL SO ON MY LAST FLIGHT I WAS ABOUT 300 TO 400 FEET UP AND MY SAITO POPPED OFF THE FRONT OF THE PLANE WHEN I FOUND THE ENGINE IT HAD PULLED THE FIRE WALL OFF THE PLANE AND THE PLANE FLUTTERED TO THE GROUND AND THE WING WAS DEMOLISHED SO IF YOU HAVE ONE OF THESE PLANES GLUE IT UP BESIDES THAT AND THE TRIM NOT STICKING AND PEELING OFF EVERYWHERE IT WAS A PRETTY GOOD FLYING PLANE ELEVATORS SUCK THO PLANE WILL PORPOISE |
RE: Wild Stick 40
How big is your Saito? Did it break loose from vibration, or was there no glue on the firewall too?
|
RE: Wild Stick 40
No glue there either it is a .72 saito
|
RE: Wild Stick 40
Well not to say there was no glue
just very little and the glue used was not epoxy and the bottom of the fire wall had no glue what so ever |
RE: Wild Stick 40
Wow, I cant believe we are talking about the same airplane. I just started building and I came on to post how awesome this kit came out the box. I will double check the rest of the plane before I continue. I was going to hang my OS70 on this thing but maybe I will throw my 50 on it.
