chip

I've only seen Chip a couple of times, but one of those times i noticed that he spent most of his time helping a guy figure out a problem with his plane. To me that says a lot about a guy.

Don't get me wrong, he is a great pilot. I believe someone mentioned a "true machine". I just liked other freestyle routines then his. His tend to be a little tame.....IMHO.

Different strokes for different folks.

Some years back, when Chip faded, he was actually banned from the TOC by Bill Benette himself for some teen age stupidity, doesn't anybody remember that?

And Remember when Hanno Pretner (the biggest TOC winner of all time) was disqualified for some technical error (airplane design), that was allways suspecious (Bill needed an American winner)

He was either banned or just left from F3A competition as well, I beleive he came back to pattern in '98 at the US Nats. He obviously did not get terribly "rusty" during that off time, I guess all that pylon kept his fingers nimble.

As far as Hanno, that was before my time....

No, he was banned fo something very stupid he did....

Anyway, let it rest, I know he is a great pilot, he's just not everyones favourite, thats all. Is that too hard to believe?

Chip's an OK guy!

Hi Guys,

My two cents are that Chip is a good guy.

He went out of his way to help me out with my airplane set-up and advice. I did not approach him, he instead offered me help if needed.

Heck he even lent me one of his airplanes and has given me encouragment.

:)

3dbatixkid, Please dont go around and trash people. If you have bad opionions about people or anything please keep them to yourself.

If you are allowed to say your opinions about him, why can't he? Just cause you like him and he doesn't, means that he can't say what he thinks of him?

Anyway, this thread has gotten way out.....Some people like him, some don't.....I met him in Cork, he was a nice guy, willing to help and so on. He is obviously a great flier too. But I don't want him to win, simply because I prefer Somenzini, CPLR, Silvestri, Briggs, etc! I think I can have my own opinion, whether you like it or not.

Still, Day two has begun and time will tell the overall winner. My money is on CPLR. Any want to make a wager ? ? ? ? ?

Davie

Well, things are looking up for CPLR then.

CPLR for me ... Go Europe! (I'd like to say got Uk, but, alas, that is not possible)...

Ryder Cup then TOC! All we need is the Pagaent in Japan and its a clean sweep.

What did Chip do to get banned from all of those contests?

Also I agree with Alex, 3dbatixkid need to keep his rude comments to himself. All of the TOC guys that I have met or been around so far (Somenzini, Thomas, Taylor, Shulman, Goldsmith, Gray) have been very nice and helpful, and some people just have bad days, you can't tell why he was acting like that unless you had been around him for a while.

Put it this way, it was completley out of character with Model Flying, and the less said, the better.

First Chip wasn't banned out of all competition, he was simply banned from the TOC which is by invitation only. I beleive he had the use of Bill Bennett's Ferrari, and kind of got it screwed up. He was young and did a stupid thing, it doesn't make him a bad person. It was only a one thing deal.
He is a very good person, and a very good flyer, competitor.
I root for CPLR because he is using my Fiber Optic extensions. But Chip is an OK guy.

Congrats! Nice job.

What did he do with the Ferrari? Dohnuts on the runway or something?

Since I don't the details, it wouldn't be fair to speculate on this.
But certainly no worse then a lot of teenagers would have, it just happened to be an expensive car.
