Why are so many people not rootin' for Chip Hyde.
I'm in these TOC threads... somebody even Booooed!
Seems folks are going any direction, any camp other than supporting Chip. I tell you guys, I've been flying RC since the ealy 70S and if theres one cuy thats been around the block several times... it's Chip Hyde.
He's seriously impressive... whats with the bad vibes?

Hey, I was only messing about 'booing' him.....Didn't meen to offend, just meant it light hearted. I don't know why I don't support him, just don't!

I didn't like that boo either. Chip is close to my age and I followed his progress in the late 80's and early 90's when he was just a tot. He inspired me to fly pattern style and work at improving my skills.

Can anybody post a picture of him with the original Jekyll? That would be a flash-back.

Default I think it is sort of like....

baseball. Everyone is tired of seeing the Braves in the play-offs or series......people like to see other people win every once in a while.....at least I do.....

And I am still a little miffed at the out come of the XFC. There were 3 other pilots (planes) that flew better than Chip in that contest but Chip won. I think you will have the "Big" name guys always win if human judges are involved. They have all heard his name etc....and he gets some slack because of it......

I have nothing against Chip and god knows he can fly better than most (all) of the people that I know, but I'd like to see some one "new" standing on the podium this year......

Just rooting for the little guys......

I, too, was at the XFC. I thought Chip was head-and-shoulders above everyone else there. He had more control over that airplane than ANYONE else at the event. There was a lot of "stick banging" going on from most--Chip was a pleasure to watch.

Be careful about claiming a "winner" to an event that you didn't judge. Without knowing the criteria, you can't know the outcome. And even then, you might not see the same things the judges did.

Either way, this years TOC seems to be a great contest with lots of potential winners. I would MUCH rather be in Las Vegas than in dreary, cold, rainy Cincinnati. I sure hope they have another one.

I personally am rooting for Chip. He won the Nats in F3A for the first time the year before I started flying pattern. He flew a Dalotel with Goldberg retracts and wheels which had the tires worn through. He had some tough times a few years back and I'm glad he came back stronger than when he faded away. He's the most determined modeler I have ever seen or met and one heck of a nice guy.

Go Chip!

Default rcplaneman....

True. I guess it is easy to sit back and claim a winner without really knowing everything that is going on.....

Don't get me wrong, he is a great pilot. I believe someone mentioned a "true machine". I just liked other freestyle routines then his. His tend to be a little tame.....IMHO.

Different strokes for different folks.

Personally, I'm in Awe at the whole lot of them for their flying abilities and commitment to their efforts in the TOC

Quique and Peter Goldsmith now live in this country. Wonder why??

As far as the TOC goes, I think the freestyle portion should be a seperate event as it was originally. And let the spectators decide the winner - freestyle is VERY subjective!!

I think that TOC should chek on all the pilots abilities equally....33% for each, knowns, unknowns, and Freestyle.

It was the pilots decision to make the FS score worth less this year, the winner should be decided mostly on their precision flying abilities as the judging criteria is much more stringent than FS is.

Not true, he is a really nice guy easy to talk to, I have found most if not all competitors at that level to be quite easy to talk to.

Pugsley

When you say you would like to see some-one new on the podium this year , do you meen some-one who has never won the TOC , or some-one different than the last winner ?

Chip hasn't won TOC in years , so he would be different this year !

Way to go Chip , take it to um !

"I have heard that he is a jerk"

I've met Quique, Jason, and Chip and seen them fly; without question Chip is the most easiest to talk to and can fly more things better then the other two combined! When he flew my friends Magic and did EVERYTHING with it and never ever flew it before; that's the most impressive things I've seen!
Chip is not a jerk, he just calls it as HE sees it. That's refreshing!

there are 10.000 pilots in the usa and less than .01% at his level. you must have one on one dealings with him then you may judge him. been there done that. machine is an under statement. RR

I have had dealings with him, in fact we had quite lengthy and informative (for me at least) talks about his HydeAway design during the world championships in Ireland (where I was a member of the Canadian team). He was more than willing to divulge his design secrets to me, maybe he felt guilty for borrowing my decibel meter for a day

When your on Top of the game, there are those that would like to see you fall.
They call it politics when he wins. The Guy is Great.
If you want to beat him, fly against him.
Words are cheap, put up or shutup.
