Hi all

Planning to get the Magic, with Thunder Tiger 46, what is the best prop for this plane/engine.

This is my first foray into 3d flying.

I read a lot about the pull pull system that supplied with some incorrect size part, etc. Anyone can share more.

I'm reading the review now of Magic by RCU.

Search Magic and you will find plenty of stuff.

I have noticed many say the apc 12.25 + 3.75 was .46 worthy, I.d try 11 + 4 and 11 + 3 apc and wood, For slow and high tourqe.

You'll love your Magic. Flies great, flat spins awesome, and hovers with ease. T-rolls take some getting used to but it's not impossible. I would ditch the Thunder Tiger if it was me (bad experiences) Mine has an OS 46FX with an APC 12.25x3.75 prop. In my opinion, and I've tried a lot of them, that is the best prop for a .46 for hovering. It pulls straight up from stall as fast as it flys straight and level and I'm 3000ft above sea level. Anyway go for it. I'll keep a Magic in my hanger for a long time to come.

But my local hobby shop only have 11x6, 10x5,10x4. Don't have those odd APC size. I know the TT Pro36 are using the 10x4, so with Pro 46, I think it will be much stronger. I will try to get that 12x3.75 prop.

If your LHS can't get the 12.25 x 3.75 APC props order them through Tower Hobbies. I ran this prop on my Magic and it didn't work all that good. I used the stock muffler. Then I made a mouse can muffler and then it worked great. Also if you don't want to make a mouse can muffler try a Tower Hobbies 46 muffler. They only cost $13. and they will give you the power to pull the APC prop. You could order the props and muffler at the same time.

I have the Magic with a TT 46 pro spinning an 11x4 prop.This combo is great for me,but there are a couple of tricks to get the performance you'll need from this motor.

1.- Pull the baffle out of the muffler.It restricts airflow too much.

2.- While you have the muffler apart.Drill out the exit tube to the largest diameter you can without making the side wall too thin(I used a 5/16 bit).

These little tricks will increase throttle response and give you more power.I like the 11x4 better than the 12.25x3.75 because it spools up quicker.But it will hover a little better with the 12.25 because of the larger diameter.
I didn't like the L-bend design in the control rods,so I put solder clips on instead.Oh yeah,the landing gear sucks.Mine broke the first time out.A poor design.Changed to aluminum.Hope this helps.I like this plane with this motor.

put the landing gear on backwards. It makes the force push on the soldered joint instead of pulling and it won't break.

Looking for any info re the Magic Extra. I believe some have been sold,but I missed the first run. Have one on back order for some time.
Would like your impressions of the plane compared to the Magic.

Also what prop and engines are being used.

Are you satisfied with overall quality and flying capabilities?

WHat about the servo preferences and possibly different way of mounting?

I planned to use the Hitec HS81MG for the wing and std servo for the rudder/elev.

I read a lot about the flaks on the pull-pull system, and its true that the nylon snap connector is size too big.

Anyone with alternatives?

:cool: As you can see from the attached photo, I used the Hitec HS 225BB servos all around. On noting the oversize keepers for the control rods I simply used some GP screw-lock pushrod connectors. A lot of the guys do not like to use these on flight control surfaces but my experience has been that properly used I have never had a problem with them. This Magic has over a hundred flights on it with nary a problem (stock landing gear, stock pull pull linkage, and rubber band wing hold downs). I assembled it for lightness, Leo .37 engine, mini-servos, and 720 mAH NiMH battery, stock tail skid. Total weight was 3 Lb. 9 Oz.
continuous vertical rolls and hovers are simply not a problem with this little plane. Have fun with yours and keep it light.

Hi I am 17 and i have a magic and crashed it and am going to buy a new one can you tell me a better place to put my receiver and pics if possible and my batt keep running down.

put the receiver were the book shows it about the only place it fits on futaba gear and charge your battery or replace it

been flying my new magic this week with a TT .46 with the tower muffler with the 12.25 x 3.75 apc, and absolutely LOVE this plane

Do you think a GMS .32 with a pipe will be enough power for thsi plane?

I just started flying my new Magic Extra with an OS .50 sx up front and this thing rocks. I'm using a Zinger 12X4 prop. Hovers just fine at less than half throttle.
