RE: Quest 50
Hi, I'm putting one together at the moment with a Rossi M46 in the nose. Everything fits quite well, love the carbon landing gear and the fact that the wing is one piece. I don't like the covering, lots of bubbles and they are not easy to get rid of. Will only fly it in about two weeks, I'll report back after maiden.

RE: Quest 50
Hi, Christie
I've finished mine with the OS 50 Sx in it. This morning made the break in procedure, and the maiden will be on this sunday if the weather will be OK. Same problems with the covering. Also you have to but the tank upside down. After break in I measured 13200 rpm with the 12.25X3.75 W APC. It's only 4.85 lb. without wheel pants. And I measured 11.7 lb. trust. Ratio is 1/2.4 Very good. But I have problems with the CG. Manual says 95-105 mm from leading edge. OK, but from where, if you go close to the fuselage you have to add too much weight, if you go to the highest point of the wing the CG becames OK. Because the wing becomes thinner root to the tip chord. Anyway all wil be solved on sunday I think. I will report soon. Please work on CG and notify me. Thank You. Mithat... |
RE: Quest 50
It's a good looking plane. Looks a lot like the fasion 50 http://www.worldtrading23.com/details.asp?sku=SZ030

RE: Quest 50
Saturday and Sunday made the first flights. The CG is where I thought not 95-105 mm, the exact place is between 120-130mm. from close to the fuselage. 125mm. seems OK. I replace the prop. APC 12X4 is perfect for 50 SX. And I used Macs Muffler the black one (#6590). Take offs where very fast and short. Little clicks to down trim. Level flights where perfect. Loops seems good. Invereted flights needed little down stick. Landings where quet good. It stays where you left no suprises. It can fly very fast and very slow. After a couple of flights, I realize that it needed to much right trust. I put more washers to the mount. I couldn't try to hover, because of the wind. It seems you need to take CG more backwards for hover. I made some mixes for knife edge (rudder, aileron, elevator). After right mixes. It was pretty cool to fly knife edge only with the rudder in put, after one moment of aileron. If you will take off from grass you need to replace the included wheels with larger ones. Everything seems OK, except the covering. After some flights, it starts to get out. You need CA. with you after every flight. It's a patern and 3D airplane. Perfect for weekend flying.

RE: Quest 50
Hi guys,I had my maiden flights today on my Queast 50.125mm at the root is a perfect CG to me.I Needed a little down elevator when inverted, and very little elevator control was needed,I don't fly 3d,just pattern.I also had alot of bubbles in the covering, low, low heat, and rub them out with a wad of cotton or paper towel and sometimes use a pin.I'm using a ttpro46,and my servos are under the wing,If I had put them in the rear I think that I would have had to add alot of nose waight. It did a nice knife edge, needs a little mixing,I forget to try a knife edge loop, but with high rate I think It will do It.I rotated the engine, using a dubro muff ext.and a tower muffler, the top stayed nice and clean, and the CL of the tank is the CL of the carb. Good luck guys.ed:D

RE: Quest 50
Hi ,
Ive bought a Quest 50 myself (nearly ready to fly) and was wondering how an OS 70FL (4 stroke) engine would go - would it be too powerful ?? Interesting reading about the CG distance - 125mm do you think is OK ??? |
RE: Quest 50
Hi,The os 70 will be perefect, try a 12x8 or a 13x6 apc,and 15% fuel.Yes 125mm at the root was good and please not too much control, less is better till you get use to It,on all planes.I like allot of expo.(Try It you, will like It)Good luck,;)Ed

Thanks,
might fly tomorrow or Saturday let u know how I go Cheers Ferg;) |
RE: Quest 50
Hi,
I'm a newbe here and I have a question about the Quest 50. I must be blind but I can not find any measurements for the Rudder, Elevator and Aileron throws on the plans anywhere. Could someone help out a blind [8D] flyer with some measurements for low and high rates. Thanks |
RE: Quest 50
It’s OK - your not blind, there isn't any measurements on the plan at all. I'm at the same stage myself setting up the throws and I set up minimum travel remembering the large control surface area on this model.
I haven’t flown the Quest 50 yet so I can't really give you exact measurements. ;);) Ferg |
RE: Quest 50
Thanks for the reply. When you do find out what the measurements you like are let me know on this thread if you will. I even tried emailing Nitro Models who sell the Quest but have received no answer yet.

RE: Quest 50
Flew the Quest for the first time couple of days ago again today so thought Id give you some info on the amount of throw.
I’ve only been flying for a just over a year now and this type of plane is new to me so I’ve been fairly cautious with the settings. I’ve set the Ailerons at 10mm (3/8") each way and the elevator at about 15 to 18 mm. I'm using a JR transmitter and have set the travel to around 40 to 50 % and expediential to 25 % for both aileron and elevator. Hope this helps out, let me know how you go. Fergie |

RE: Quest 50
Any of you guys still out there? I ordered Quest yesterday from NM. I know this is a little rediculas for a plane like this, but I've got a brand new YS45 with tuned pipe I plan to put in it. I'm hoping this will be my backup to the backup to the backup pattern practice plane. Besides I'm just not sure what else I'd use this YS for any time soon, and I want to see what it can do.

RE: Quest 50
Howdy. if anybody is out there, did others have problems with the covering and if so what did you do about it

Well, I'm still here and pissed as #$!!.
I got my Quest from Nitro and it really looked great! I couldn't believe it. Should have known it was too good to be true. I started assembling and when it came time to mount the wing I got the shock of my life! I've never before seen such a terrible fit! I maintained my cool though and contacted them. I also sent pictures, and they offered to refund my $99.99. Great you say, not really. They would not refund the original $31 for shipping, and they would not pay for the $31 to ship it back! So,,,I'm out $62 and don't even have a plane BUYER BEWARE! (Incidentally, this IS with the alignment dowl and hold down screws installed). |

I have the Quest 90 and I have problems with the trim coming off and leaving a gritty residue. Apparently the trim is glued on and you can't fix it by ironing it down. I haven't had any trouble with the underlying white covering so maybe I'll just let all the trim blow away until the plane turns completely white.:)
|
RE: Quest 50
The 50 some kind of stick on clear covering, I've heard of it, but never seen it before. It did start to peal as I worked on this turd.
I also had a world models Spot On 120, probably the best pattern plane for the $ I've ever seen. But the covering sucks, and they know it, but have done nothing. I let it all just strip off until it was all white and did my own trim. It's a shame they build a great plane like that and then use such cheap covering. I know it's cost, but it can't be that much of a savings to them. I'd buy another if not for the covering issues on World, and I'll NEVER trust ANYTHING from Nitro! |
RE: Quest 50
Hi:
The plane looks awsome, but I have lots of problems installing the engine, aligning the wings, the interior space is very small. I powered with a TT .46 PRO and Flies very very fast....Good plane. The covering material suck's...very bad. |
RE: Quest 50
Gee what ever happened to Customer service????????? Don't blame you djr1007
Would a spray over type varnish work do you think, might just stop the edges lifting. In Australia we have a product by a company called Sellys that has worked on other planes of mine. Having then said this, how does the plane fly, Iam thinking of useing a OS46AX will this be sufficent. Regards Lee Hunt |
RE: Quest 50
I had same problems with covering with most China ARF models, my solution is to paint the plane with polyuretane clear paint, only one thin coat to avoid weight.
I paint before i assembly the model. |
RE: Quest 50
Hey I know this is about the quest50, in the light of the troubles people have can anyone make a suggestion as to a very good pattern plane this size that does most everything well???????
Lee |
RE: Quest 50
HI:
I suggest you, spot-on 50, Venus 40, widebody 40. |
RE: Quest 50
Thankyou very much for that, do you own any of these??? which is the best do you think
