Brison & cap 232
Hi Guys Just thought id through an idea out there and see what all you guys thought.
I Have a Hanger9 1.20 Cap 232 and am thinking of putting a Brison 2.4 in it. Im Going all out on the carbon fiber (main gear, tail wheel, and spinner) for the look and for the weight savings. Im using a JR 8103 with the FM 7 channel receiver with hitec 645MG servos. Im aiming for 13-14Lbs dry. How Do you all think she will fly with the brison and selected equipment? Whats your predictions on weight? Any modifications to the airframe you guys would recomend? Im thinking of pulling some of the foam out of the turttle deck as well as pulling some of the wood out of the tank mount area and repositioning the fuel tank as close to the CG as possible. Im building the plane to compete in IMAC and maybe the Freestyle so light and strong are a must. What do you all think? |

Brison's aren't known to be light. You will need to move much equipment to the rear of the plane for balance. Removing the foam aft of the CG will make the plane weaker and you may need to add tail weight so leaving it there at least initially would be a good idea. Mount the tank on the CG and use a smaller tank as you won't need as much gasoline as glow fuel to fly the same time. I would doubt if your weight goal would be reached.

definitely watch the weight. I had this plane on a Saito 180 and it was very gentle, landed at a crawl, wonderful airplane. Still kick myself for ever selling it. A fellow club member had one with a Brison 2.4 as you've mentioned, and his report to me was that it was very apt to tip stall. I'd say do the best you can to watch the weight and see how it goes. I wouldn't worry about the foam in the turtledeck, could you imagine how much foam you'd have to remove just to save one ounce? Not much of anything to be saved there. I do remember the gear being kinda heavy on this one, so you'd do well with carbon there, plus with the gas motor, you'd be saving weight in the right place there.

Did She hover well with the 180 what kind of vertical did have? I do have a 1.80 setting around and was thinking of that but decided the gas might be better for 3D and imac

had a 260 27% with a satio 180 in it and it flew very well , the mtr was new on the fisrt flight , vertical was forever but slow, the mtr was set very rich though, battery pack ejected and the mtr will be reassembled in the am,both mtrs you mentioned will fly that plane , you need to watch the weight on the brison and prop it right,if you weight less than 15lbs it should be fine , over that and it will in my opion be on the doggy side, hope this helps, now what plane do I want to get next???craig

yeah it would hover on that motor, and vertical was unlimited. For me on that airframe the 180 seemed to like the 17x6 better than the 16x8. What I remember about that airplane was how well it would harrier. I'm not a huge fan of the Saito 180, all my experiences were real inconsistent. Constant needle chasing and one day it would pull that cap like gangbusters, the next day it would just keep crawling vertical. If I had that airframe and choice of any engine, I would go Moki 180. MUCH more power and stone reliable. I personally feel this plane is a shade small for gas.

i have the matt chapman 1.20 size cap with a da50 in it it needs the nose wieght to balance i had a os1.60 in it before and it needed a pound and a haft of lead to balance at 5-5/8 c.g. the plane fly great with the da the cap had no poop on hot days with the 1.60

also i have the kangke 1.20 size cap i had the brisson 2.4 in it pulling a 20x8 prop it had no balls i have a zdz 50 in it now and it is great

I'm assuming you have your servos mounted rearward. With the Saito, mine was right on the CG with the servos mounted over the wing. There is probably a varying range in balsa density on these planes, as I also have a DA in another project and there is a great difference in weight to the Saito. There are many ways to skin this cat, that's for sure. My brother has the H9 Edge 78", and had experimented with several different engines in his, and after seeing his edge with the Moki 180, it made me wish I still had my Cap. Way more vertical then my Cap with the saito, and a fellow club member's with an OS.

i have two h-9 matt chap caps new in boxes here i have had them for about 3 year i like the planes they are fun to fly i have the h-9 78inch 540 with a moki 2.10 it flys great but i dont like the moki had to get a cline reg for it to make it run right the kangke cap flys good to but the vibration from the gassers are killing them fast

that's what my brother started with in his edge. He had the 210, then an OS160, and finally the Moki 180. The 180 almost had as much vertical as the 210, but the plane flew light on the wing and 3Ded like on the 160. He also had issues with his 210, seems the early ones had something wrong with the carb. Jim Cline (of Cline regulators) fixed the carb on his 210. It's been so long now I can't remember what needed to be done, but it ran great after that, and was moved on to an 80" Lanier Cap with much success.

jim cline did the work for me to it runs ok now but i would not buy the moki/mark again

Well guys i have decided no to go with the Brison 2.4. I have decided to go with a DA-50
mainly for the power to weight gain and usebility of the engine in another airframe. This thing should be WICKED with the 50 in it. Im still aiming at 13-13.5 Lbs I will post picks when i begin construction. Thanks guys |

I have one with a Moki 1.80 at 14 pounds. You gotta be near 14 1/2 eh? Love the plane BTW, I can do some really crazy stuff with it.

Good choice. Too bad the BME 55 is not out. You'd save a pound.

THE WING AREA IS 1031 SQ IN MINE IS 14LBS 5 OZ DRY THE PLANE IS A FLOATER WITH THE DA50[8D]

FLYGUY GOOD LUCK TRYING TO GET 13 TO 13.5 LBS YOU CAN TILL IT COMES TIME TO BALANCING THE DA50 WILL HELP PUT THE BATTREY AND IGNITION BOX ALL THE WAY IN FRONT PLUS I HAVE A MINI SERVO IN FRONT NEXT TO THE GAS TANK FOR THE THROTTLE GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN THE PLANE IS A BLAST:D:D:D

I have a os1.60fx in it it flys ok it snaps bad it has plenty of power it wieghts 13 pounds 4oz with out fuel i would not buy another one i have the cg up and down the range and it is a average flyer but there are better choices out there
