3d flying upgrade
hi I have about 110 hours on a eflite yak-54foamy (well been through a few @ first was to daring to try new stuff low and got tired of building new ones and now im doing good )now thats out of the way was wondering what would be the best glow nitro plane to move on to i just got a funtana 40 and i have got about 6 flights and doing ok but its not as easy as the yak .. is this a good stepin stone or is there a better way to go i like 3d ,hoverin ,torque rolls, harrier, and stuff like that ...( i will keep flying the yak &shockeys indoors) i do have a good bit of time on glow models ...thanks for any help p.s. the time came from my timer on the radio.....

RE: 3d flying upgrade
as long as you are comfortable with the funtana let it eat.. after you get some time on it you will get more comfortable with it.. im assuming you allready know how to hover, tork roll ETC. if so you should soon get the "non foamy feel" for lack of words to describe it. if not i would 3D practice on the foamy since the mistakes are cheaper to fix. but continue to fly the funtana.

RE: 3d flying upgrade
yes to the maneuver. the funtana just felt wild on high rates i have hovered the funtana up at about 30' or so and not great as far as steady but did it wow..... it was a hand full maybe i should tone it down a bit ? at first

RE: 3d flying upgrade
how much expo are you running? you can soften the controls with more and slowly wok it back as you feel it better. what radio are you using?
|
RE: 3d flying upgrade
futaba t7cap i added some last night but didnt get to fly today i was at about 40 but added 15
|
RE: 3d flying upgrade
sorry i took out exp. eil and the others to slow it down im new to the exp too just finding out about this been flyin just stick I started out with numbers out of the book for tripble rates ....
|
RE: 3d flying upgrade
i cant remember if futaba is positive or negitave.. I fly a JR. If someone else will chime in that has a futaba radio they can tell you wich way to go for softer feel.. I think its positive (like going from 40 to 60 would be softer) but dont take my word on it i havent had a futaba in over a year. some radios it would have to be a negative # like -40 to -60. but either way i think this would be all you need to get it dialed in to your "feel" that ou are looking for.

RE: 3d flying upgrade
Futaba is negative, so -40 would be very soft around center but wilder at the ends. If he used positive on Futaba, it was more touchy around center and got softer the further toward the end of stick travel.

RE: 3d flying upgrade
i have - truned it on and looked and -40 on all plus i shop tested when i was dialing it in to see what was happen to the surface thanks for the help

RE: 3d flying upgrade
one more thing to add to this is the cg i moved it back from what the book said and that made it better i have it at 6 1/8 from LE if any one knows may be more to the aft side ??
|
RE: 3d flying upgrade
sounds like you are going in the right direction as far as setting it up.. once you get it dialed as you like it. and your feel of flying it changes and you get more used to the plane. you may want to back the expo off untill you find an area that works best for you..

|
RE: 3d flying upgrade
i started @ 5 1/2 and was not sure and read on the site to move it back some say as much as 6 3/4 but i dont know i have changed the cg on the yaks alot just to see the diff. but dont want a hard landing on this thing i have stock gear and know that is a weak point

RE: 3d flying upgrade
maybe the wind will die soon ready to go try again [:o] it will calm down later that is what the taf said anyway

RE: 3d flying upgrade
maybe i should start a new subject on the funtana setup... ok got to fly today and all went well (i mean no crash ) but still wonder about its flight characteristics. To start with all takeoffs are going smooth and feel good; as well as the landings. Those are superb. But when in normal flight, when you apply back pressure in a left turn the right wing drops. To a point to where you have to increase input on the stick. That is the main thing that bugs me and I can't figure it out. maybe someone can help me out here the CG is still @6 to 6 1/8 the stabs all look true to me .. after a bit of time flyin I got better with it like being ahead of the fallin wing maybe its just me? it seams to want to drop the same wing in a right hand turn like go inverted. is this a tip stall???
|
RE: 3d flying upgrade
sounds like some other issues with the plane but i cant tell to much from your description.. start a thread with the word funtana in it and people will come in droves to read it. maybee someone can help better than me.

RE: 3d flying upgrade
things are going better nothing like kyle ha oneday:eek: but think i had a bad servo in the right wing ... fixxed.. found it after tryin to get help on here gave up and went to work was able to hover and tork roll and some other stuff not much extra power out of this motor to pull out of a hover (magnum 70 4c) may need more... should i put my satio 72 on this bird or bigger? and as far as C.G. moved it to 6 1/4 .. ... no hits on my funtana 40 setup help maybe that i posted 2 didnt mean to

RE: 3d flying upgrade
You should put the Saito 91 on this plane before the 72, if you are looking for max power.
|
RE: 3d flying upgrade
with what prop for the 91
