why not remote choke

you know i've seen alot of pilots on there knees choking/unchoking there gas motors and i was wondering why they dont remote the choke. it can be used as an alternate shut off aswell. you can flip the switch when it pops and if you time it right it will keep on running. coolist thing sence digital trims. I didnt put a servo on my choke because of the extra weight. As you mentioned though, its great to turn off the engine with. Also, if my throttle servo goes bad I will have to fly the plane until it runs out of gas, which could take a while. Thats the price you pay I guess.

I have been thinking about picking up a mini servo to do the job but after spending $800 on eight servos recently, I am all servoed out for the time being. :)

Ever run a ZDZ 80?
The throttle arm itself is bad enough to configure correctly.
To set the choke up on a servo on this motor would be way more work than its worth.

I figure I'm down there to flip the prop, I might as well pull the choke also! Of course that remote shutdown, does sound cool! Hmmmm If I only had one more channel!!

Servo on Choke

:p Ya Buddy , it does work real nice and is a great safety feature too ! We just put a remote choke on our Sig 231EX with a ZDZ-40 and it works great !!! I probably do this on all of em from now on. Have FUN and Happy Holidays !! Rod & Chris in PA ;)

Works great. Use a micro servo to save weight, and put the servo on a knob so that you can use partial choke settings. Here is a picture on a choke setup on a Brisson 3.2.

the choke on some planes is hard to turn by hand. You would probably need a really strong servo to pull and weight wont kill you.

I don't use a remote choke servo because it is not that difficult to choke my engines manually. As far as remote kill,I use a fiber optic kill switch, from Electro Dynamics,it connects between the ignition module and battery, plugged into the gear channel(5).It provides a positive kill from the transmitter, which I think is an AMA rule for gasoline engines.
