Phoenix Models Fun Star 40-3D
Anybody have or seen one of these? I would be interested in what covering is used, build quality, flight characteristics, etc.
Thanks, |

I think you should get one of those and let the rest of us know how it is .

I just picked one up from Bisson Custom Mufflers. The kit is awsome. I could not build it better or lighter myself and everything is done for you right down to pre-pinned hinges. If you are interested I can take a few pics tonight.

Funstar

I bought one. It flys great and looks good. With the covering I have found it abit hard to orientate in the air. I put a Rossi 45 with a long pipe in it. I havnt test flown it with the new enging but it went quite good with a 46.

Just a couple of pics. I am using a GMS47 with tuned muffler. It just fit without modification to the supplied mount if anyone is considering it.

Pinned hinges
Just one thing with regard to those PINNED hinges. CHECK THEM NOW!
I fly the phoenix sukhoi with a .46 irvine, and my left aileron came off during normal relaxed(if flying a sukhoi can ever be called relaxing) flying. By hook or by crook I got it down safely, and found that the pins had fallen out and the aileron hinges were not glued in at all. Ok, there was a bit of glue on one side of two of the hinges, but that is just scary, man... So just check yours, I might have just received the dud plane... but better safe than sorry... Christie |

here in oz they sell for $250 aus Just bought one here in Aus for $170.00aus. And thats a "No Favours" price, not a "Mates Deal". $170.00aus is pretty good I reckon... Havnt got it in the air yet, but looking forward to it. Great to see the GMS 47 will fit, thats what I'm putting in it... Hey Terry, what Prop is that? I have a APC 12 1/4 x 3 3/4 which that could almost be... Theres guys here prop hovering ARF trainers with 46FX's and GMS47's and those props; worked OK on my Arrow, but the plane was a little heavy... |
Phoenix Models Fun Star 40-3D
cmsrp,
I'd have to check but I think it is a 12x4 or so. Believe me...the GMS 47 has more than enough for this plane. I flew it last weekend and the throttle spent most of the time just above idle. I am thinking of swapping out the stock tank for one half the size. One of my flights was 25 mins long and I landed under power. I still have some CG things to work out but its a fun plane and seems to be strong enough too. I did some high speed walls and it handled them fine. Terry |

Terry,
Try a APC 12 1/4 x 3 3/4 prop. You get heaps better throttle/thrust control and the plane doesnt fly real fast. We found out about the APC prop's when our club held the state pattern championships. Some of the pilots were using real cheap trainers (they reckon if they crash, for $120.00aus, they just get another one) for 3d fun during the breaks. No-one could beleive they were hovering etc using .40's and .46's etc in these trainers. Turned out the trick was the prop!!!!!!!Of course after that, most of our club members raided every hobby shop in close proximity for these props... Even my really heavy arrow became a pleasure to fly!!!!! |

Flew the Funstar for the first time today....
Only two words to explain it, "LOVE IT"!!!!! Best $170.00aus I've ever spent... If you dont have one, GET ONE!!!! Gary schmedje turned up with a "CM Pro Giles 2002 Fun Fly". Very impressive also... About the same size as the funstar, and quite similar (to a point) but had better colours for visibility. I think I'll add some bright stripes to the funstar which will make it easier to see... |
