Phil, what kind of scale did you weigh your Cap with? Did your Cap have standard servo's in it? How much does your friends weigh?

I think there are two different agendas with this airplane.

1) Put a heavy 2 or 4 stroke on it and have a brick that will sequence well, have unlimited vertical, but will not 3D worth a hoot.

2) Be weight conscious, put a light 2 stroke 50 or a saito 72 have unlimited vertical and 3D like a 35% airplane.

Rickys Cap in post #17 fly's like a TOC bird. He has 50 degrees of throw on the elevator. I have flown it and it does every 3D move in the book.

Incredible walls and parachutes at full elevator (50 deg) with no snap. This is due to wing loading. Put a 91 four stroke on it and all you get is a snap.

So I agree with you Phil, if 3D is not your game, put a chunk up front.

If you want a serious 3D capable bird, an OS 50sx is the perfect powerplant. DO NOT put a 90 four stroke in this .40 size kit.

You're saying this Cap will do a harrier and elevator with no wing rock?

I think a webra 50 would be a great motor for this bird if you want to keep it light and 3D.

The one I built has a saito 91 for power- 3004 servos all around with 2 in the wings- rudder servo in the tail- battery under wing bolts to ballance .25" behind recommended. The human scale says 5 lbs. the fish scale says 5.5 lbs. take your pick.
With a 14x6 prop it will hang all day under half throttle. Floats in almost like a trainer.
Build it straight and light and you'll love it.

RE: Great Planes 40 Cap 232. Will it 3D?

Hey Guys
Im building the cap 232 right now I have a Hitec Micro 555 reciever a Hs-81 for throttle servo Hs-425bb elevator servo a Hs-475hd rudder servo and a Hs-525bb hi speed aileron servo, and a 600MaH batterpack for gear, with the Webra 50 with slimline muffler for power. To get this plane to do 3D I was told you had to keep it light and thats what I'm doing. I also made the hole in the formers that hold the sheeting on bigger and was considering buying carbon fiber landing gear.

I've got the kit too... A buddy of mine built his recently and replaced the fuse sides with balsa instead of light ply...

You really do need to enlarge the ailerons as well. Elevator and rudder are fine. It does great tumbles, I know as I was doing them earlier :D
